brioche in York Region?

thanks missmouse!

I believe I've been there...is it run by a Latino family? And they also specialize in Latin baked goods?

I remember those latin goodies to be very good. Didn't realize they also carry brioche. Thanks!

brioche in York Region?

hello all,

Where can I find brioche in York Region (preferably Richmond Hill)?

Would prefer it to be "plain" (i.e. no fruits, etc.)

I've done some calling around and some internet searching, but still no luck. Any solid leads would be greatly appreciated.

thank you!

Tom Jenkins - Ft Lauderdale

I am flying into Orlando on a Saturday. Driving to Ft Lauderdale on Sunday. In Miami for the rest of the week up to Friday. Driving back to Orlando, via Naples/Tampa on the next Saturday.

My problem is, I've heard Tom Jenkins is closed on Sunday. My question is:

Is the BBQ at Tom Jenkins good enough for me to re-arrange things so that I drive back via Ft Lauderdale on a day that it is open? I don't have time while in Miami cause of meetings. Is there any other joints that is comparable in the south Florida area?

My expectations:

I don't have a particularly good mindset on what good BBQ is. I come from Toronto Canada where BBQ is a weak "cuisine." My experience is Sonny Bryan's in Dallas, and in Orlando: Bubbalou's, Smokey Bones, and OBoy's. In Tampa, Jazzy's and Big John's. I thought Sonny's was OK...tasted like it was sitting around for awhile. Didn't like all the places in Orlando. The Tampa places were the best so far.

Thanks for reading!

Thai in Richmond Hill (Yonge/Major Mac)

Thailand Kitchen, along Yonge, north of Major Mac is all papered-up.

I tried calling the number and no answer. Does anyone know if they've moved somewhere else or maybe just renovating? Thanks.

They had good pad thai.

H-Mart

Galleria's food court is bigger physically with more seating but H-mart has more vendors.

the far left vendor is a Korean fried chicken place
the next two (or 3? - one might be Japanese food or a mix...can't recall right now)
and the last is Vietnamese food (looks like run by Koreans though)
there is also a snack/shakes vendor

the baked goods is all the way in the back, so doesn't form part of the food court

Curacao: where for creole, cuban, etc?

Hi there,

First time visit to Curacao.

It looks like the Old Market is a good place for local foods. But how about an actual sit-down restaurant in Willemstad?

Please give input for any creole and cuban places too. Thank you very much.

i'm from toronto but will be visiting montreal. we'd then like to cross the border for shopping and food!

new york subs closed permanently?

what happened to new york subs on queen west?

the place was closed around noon time today with their mailbox overstuffed.

Another Owl of Minerva

Agreed with Royaljelly. I ordered the bi bim bap and it was so stale. I saw another location at Yonge/Finch area near Thai Bistro.

In between Owl and Thai Bistro is a good Korean place where I ordered kalbi. Sorry forgot the name.

Pat's or Geno's for cheesesteak?

I tried Pat's and was disappointed. Got the whiz wit and should have gotten witout. The onions made the bread water soggy ruining the sandwich. The bread and cheese was delicious. Steak itself was unremarkable. I still enjoyed the experience and crossed off another on my to eat list.

A couple years ago also visited Philly and had way better cheese steak sandwiches out of a truck across from the liberty bell.

steamed blue crab close to Pennsylvania?

I am from Toronto Canada and will be visiting Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. I don't have a lot of time but would like to do a quick detour for some steamed blue crabs in Maryland.

What's the closest decent place that won't take me too far off track between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.

I was thinking Hagerstown but will welcome your other suggestions.

Thank you. :)

Dirty South Soul Food - St Petersburg

Hi, I've tried calling this place and got a fax machine.

Dirty South Soul Food
2924 5th Ave N
Saint Petersburg, FL 33713
(727) 209-1800

Can someone please tell me if this is the right number and what their hours are. I live in Toronto Canada and am heading down for a visit.

It would really help if someone local could get the right number and find out their hours. Thank you thank you. :)

chow on the may to vaughan mills

Agreed if it's the same one I'm thinking about.

It's facing east, perpendicular to Rutherford. There's a Baskin Robbins at the same building but on the south side.

Narrow store, with tables on either side as you enter. There's a granite bar at the very back and bathrooms to the left of it.

heheh, is that the one?

Windsor-style pizza in Toronto?

Hey guys,

Danforth Pizza House, they serve slices?

Thanks.

best breakfast york region?

It used to be good (circa 95), but has gone downhill.

anygood food near steeles and bayview??

It's been awhile, but the falafel sandwich at What-A-Bagel (Bayview/John) is pretty good.

Maybe they're called "vada"s?

early morning dim sum

Perfect Chinese is suppose to be 24 hours.
4386 Sheppard Avenue East, Scarborough - (416) 297-6100

It's cheap but not the greatest quality. Note my impressions are on experiences years ago.

Korean Fried Chicken

A Korean franchise called AFC (Ajuker Fried Chicken) is/was around. One location on Bloor West (at Christie) is apparently closed down according to another chowhound member. There is another location (I believe owned by the same Bloor West restauranteurs) along Yonge, north of Steeles. It's in the same plaza with Red Lobster. Whether it's still open or not I don't know. Call (905) 763-9232. I tried it a couple years ago and it was good but they are inconsistent and once received half fried half frozen chicken.

On my many bus rides along Yonge St, I recall seing another Korean chicken place on the east side, just south of Steeles, Don't remember the name though.

best breakfast joint in Toronto?

I'm looking for a great breakfast place north of Steeles (b/w Bathurst and Leslie/Don Mills). Thanks.
