1955 crown royal

Thanks for all your posts on the bottle. Maybe we will crack it open on Thanksgiving whether it's fashionable or not! Very recently a server frowned at the request for a crown sour and informed us, we don't have crown royal. I find this strange.

1955 crown royal

I recently found a 1955 half gallon of crown royal that has been well cared for and properly stored. The bottle is in mint condtion with the original bag and story book. I know whisky doesn't age further once it's in the bottle but I'm curious as to if there's any sort of market for this. Should we drink it ourselves? Advice anyone?

Tipping the owner of a restaurant

I know a family that opened a small restaurant just monthes before the recession hit. One runs the kitchen and the others work the bar and floor a couple of the quiter nights. The tips they make are shared equally between 3 maybe 4 of the siblings. They have not been able to draw a salary. I also know when there are other people on the floor or bar they do not take a penny from them. I hope they can stay in business, it's a terrific place to go.

No. 9 Park

Ashame you had such a lousy experience. Guess I'm in the minority.I have dined at No 9 on several occasions and it has always been fabulous. Service, food, drinks and wine. It's been about a year but still look forward to returning. Not sure where on earth you can get a $4 beefeater and tonic. Even north of the city they run about $7. Yes No 9 is pricy but I'm usually not paying.

First Time to Visit Boston

Prezza for certain. I know it's not popular but we were not impressed with Mamma Maria's. Prezza has never disappointed. For drinks go to Drink (fort point channel?) or ESK near Fenway. Mike's Pastry, fine but not the best you'll find in this city. Staying in Back Bay, check out the Madarin, it's fun just to walk through.

Unum's, Nashua NH: my Yelp review

Unum's was not impressive. The first visit was just bad and service horrible. Apparently our table was never assigned(it happens, I know) Once that was rectified we waited another 15 minutes for our drinks to arrive. The owner insisted on buying our cocktails.Food was ok, not memorable. Do they own a shrimp boat? Every dish came out with a couple of shrimp on it.The food took a long time. Then they couldn't find my coat they took from me on arrival. Waited awhile for that. On the way home my dc informed me they charged us for our "on the house" drinks. I wrote a short note and the owner graciously sent me a gift card. We tried it again and now we're done. Cucina Toscano is where we head for Italian in Nashua.

Looking for Boston Restaurant for Grad Dinner

Prezza and Sorrelina are both great choices. I also love the Oak Room. That may be outside the price bracket though. We must've missed the boat with Mamma Maria's though. After reading great reviews and finally visiting one recent Tuesday, it was quite disappointing. The place is lovely, the food was just OK. Lamb meatballs were very dry as was the cous cous that came with the lamb dinner. Lobster raviolli was fine but not impressive. Should have skipped the apple dessert, again nothing special. Our meal at Prezza was much more memorable. I am a fan of Union in So. End and Davio's on Arlington St as well.

Upscale Dining in Back Bay?

Completely agree about Mortons and by the time they are finished with the show and tell of the menu, I don't feel like eating their average steak. Grill 23 and Oak Room both better choices. No.9 Park is my favorite, very special and we love Hammersleys Bistro as well. Have not been to the new Sal de Terre location but certainly enjoyed svereal meals at the original spot. Hope it's delicious.

Annoyed with the surprise price of a glass of wine!

I have been in the food and beverage business forever, manager, server and bartender; worked on both coasts, upscale and everyday. If I intended to bring the $25 glass of cab I would have let the guests know ahead of time. There are tactful ways to do this. Very presumptious I say.

Haverhill Beef--Has anyone tried it?

Stopped going to HB years ago. I also agree with the smell complaint. Did not know there was a new owner. Love Butcher Boy for meat and wine, great selections. Only once has the rack of lamb disappointed. I may give HB another shot, hope it smells better.

FALL TRIP TOP TIPS ?

My favorite place in Boston is #9 Park. Expensive but they always excel. Davio's on Arlington St is another favorite. In the south end I would second both Hammersly's and the Butcher Shop, I also enjoy Union Grill there. Further north on the coast, great fried clams and lobster rolls from Ipswich right through Maine.

Green Monkey - Portsmouth, NH

Love the Green Monkey. Small menu but wonderful food, deliciously prepared. Love the atmosphere. Actually had reservations for labor day but their kitchen hood broke and they closed. Disappointed, don't always get to Portsmouth. Service is nice as well.

Best restaurants in Portsmouth NH?

Had dinner at the Green Monkey and loved it. Food was excellent, service better then some other Ports. restaurants. Also, our meal was delicious at Dunaway but service was lagging. Oar House has been consistently great for over 10 years now. Jumpin Jaes- service bordered flat out rude, non existant.

Good chow in Portland MAINE

I hear David's in Monument square is great. Sure was a fan of his Nwpt. Ma restaurant. Haven't been here yet but will be later this month.
