Tired of same old places in Bucks county

Have you tried the crab cake at the Yardley Inn? We love it there and the dine for less menus for lunch and dinner are a steal.

Anybody out there tried The Vine and Fig in Doylestown?

Here's what I posted on Yelp. Definitely do NOT recommend Perfect Taste.

Have you ever had a meal that was so bad it was almost comical? That was our experience with Perfect Taste.

We were looking for somewhere to go for dinner one night when our toddler was with her grandparents. Everywhere else was packed but Perfect Taste was empty at 5:30pm on a Saturday. They are BYOB so my husband went down two doors to the liquor store to get a bottle of wine.

Service was fine. The food, however, was downright awful. By the time we left around 6:30/7pm the place was packed and we both wanted to stand in the doorway and yell, "If you like good food get out now!"

The smell from the wood-burning grill hits you as soon as you walk in the door, so of course we both ordered dishes that are supposedly cooked on the grill. My tuna was chewy and didn't even have grill marks. How is that possible for something cooked on a hot grill? We should have known things weren't going to be good when we saw that all the entrees (except the seafood) are served with the same starch and veggie, in this case asparagus. In December. Yeah. We hoped the asparagus might be cooked on the grill but as soon as our plates were delivered we knew they'd just been steamed. They weren't even trimmed of their woody ends. My rice was obviously Minute Rice, and was sadly the best thing on the plate. My husband got steak au poive which couldn't have been grilled because there was no wood-smoked flavor or grill marks. Bland sauce with no descernible peppercorns or brandy, rubbery potatoes and the same ill-prepared asparagus.

At least the wine was good.

Las Margaritas

Is this the one right off the Blvd? I know they just opened a second location...

Anyway, I agree with phillycarol's sister - definitely a step above TB. I went there for a going away party for my husband's coworker. They all raved to him about the food beforehand and they knew I was into food so they insisted I come. I drove an hour, while 7 months pregnant, to go and was SO disappointed. I hear they have good margaritas, which I couldn't have, but the food was so bland.

Point us in the right direction, please.

I didn't see anyone address the Warm Daddy's issue, so I wanted to throw in my opinion on that. Seeing as you only have 4 days I don't know if it's worth the trip, but we really like it there. The music is great, the food is very good and we just love the overall atmosphere. I don't know where it used to be, but it's now very convenient off I-95 near the water.

Options around Sesame Place (Langhorne) and Crayola Factory (Easton)

I'm glad I found this post - the menu at Mirim looks amazing! Can't wait to try it.

And I'm glad you found Isaac Newtons. I live in Newtown and it's a good go-to place for family meals. Good burgers and fries and kids are definitely welcome.

Gary & Lenny's New York Delicatessen, Lawrenceville

My husband and I went here last night and had a good meal. I ordered the L-3 based on your recommendation and loved it. We also shared an order of pierogies and my husband got a crock of French onion soup with his sandwich. The soup was on the salty side, but everything else was great. I know this used to be a Denny's (many fond high school memories there) but I would have thought they'd do more to spruce it up. We asked the waiter about the menu being almost identical to Moish & Itzy's in Newtown, PA and he said it was the same owners.

Mexican Meal

Personally, I think $15 is on the pricier side for an entree at a Mexican restaurant, especially when our experience at Tortuga's has been a lot of rice and beans and hardly any meat. Our new favorite place serves 3 amazing beef tacos for $4. In fact, none of the entrees are more then $10 and that's for shrimp.

Mexican Meal

There's a new place in Lambertville called Buho's that I've heard good things about. It's on Kline's Court near the Wachovia. Unfortunately it's pretty pricey, which I think is a crime for Mexican food. There's also Tortuga's in Lambertville, but it suffers from the same $$$.

There's actually a fantastic, cheap, authentic Mexican place in Warminster, Pa, but I think that's probably too far for you. That's become our go-to place since we moved to Bucks County.

wedding cake recommendations for Princeton area?

When I got married we used Chez Alice in Princeton. http://www.chezalice.com/wedding.html

The cake was absolutely fantastic...from what we hear. Sadly, we each had one bite and that was it. But our guests raved and I heard a story about one guest walking around asking if anyone had any extra cake.

Red Robin Burgers

I third this. I always order the Royal Red Robin when we go there. I've tried a few others but nothing beats this.

Red Robin Burgers

I've never had a plain burger there so I can't speak to the quality of the meat. I will say I've never noticed the burger to be dry, though. Do you order it "some pink" or "no pink?" I always get the Royal Red Robin "some pink" and it's usually very juicy. Maybe the toppings help keep it that way, but I would think if it was on the medium-rare side it would be good regardless of the toppings.

Anyone familiar with Olga's Kitchen?

I know it's been awhile, but how funny! That's the one I used to go with my father, which means I might have been one of your customers. I loved that place.

Bridgeton Mill House?

Has anyone been to the Bridgeton Mill House (http://www.bridgetownmillhouse.com/) for dinner? We pass this beautiful bed and breakfast from time to time and recently discovered that they serve lunch and dinner as well. I did a search on here but didn't find any reviews. Since it's on the expensive side we'd only go for a special occasion (our 5th wedding anniversay is coming up). We like to really research restaurants before splurging so I'd love to hear a review.

Thanks!

Blue Point Grill, Princeton NJ

I used to feel BPG was just so-so, but my husband and I had a fantastic meal there a few weeks ago. A nice bottle of Reisling from the store down the street went very well with my raw oysters and shrimp stuffed with crab meat and my husband's seared scallops. Service was excellent. We definitely saw BPG in a new light after that meal.

Montco or Bucks Local Ice Cream

There's a new ice cream place where Goodnoe's in Newtown used to be - I think it's called Sweet Pea. They make a really good toasted coconut ice cream.

There's also the Zebra Striped Whale in Newtown. And someone already mentioned Shady Brook Farm ice cream.

5 guys? Is it really that good?

We only recently got a 5 Guys near us and we've been once since they opened. We really loved what we ordered. The fries were fresh and crisp and quite plentiful and the burgers were huge (next time we'll order the smaller burgers and one order of fries). We'll definitely go back the next time we're in the neighborhood.

Drive-thru screw-ups

This is why I hate going through the drive-thru. Besides the long lines, I never seem to get what I ordered. The last time I did the drive-thru I got all the way home once from Wendy's and realized they'd forgotten my dipping sauce for the nuggets. That was the last time I did that.

Rey Azteca in Warminster

There is a fantastic Mexican restaurant on York Road in Warminster that our friends found by accident a few months ago. Six of us went there for New Year's Eve and we ate and ate and ate and the bill was only $30/couple. Since then my husband and I have been back numerous times and every time we leave happy and full without spending a fortune. The food really is fantastic, even if the decor leaves a lot to be desired, but it's never very busy. I would hate to see them close since we've been looking for a great Mexican restaurant where the food doesn't cost a fortune, so I thought I'd spread the word. Unfortunately they don't have a website.

Happy Eating!

Doylestown Faves?

We liked Honey when we went for our anniversary in October. Excellent, very interesting preparations and they went out of their way to make our evening special.

We've always enjoyed Cafe America, especially the Cuban sandwich.

Jules is always good, although now that they have a Newtown location it's been awhile since we've gone to Doylestown. I've never had a problem with variety - they always have at least 10 different pies to choose from.

Pizza in Cranbury/East Windsor/Princeton, NJ area

When I worked in Cranbury I loved Cranbury Pizza.

I haven't been to the new DeLorenzo's in Robbinsville, but if it's anything like the old location in Trenton it'll be fantastic.

South Bucks County Restaurants

We live in Newtown and like going to Isaac Newton's, Dragons for Chinese, just tried Heart of Oak Pub near Doylestown, we like La Stalla for Italian and Siam for Thai. We've tried Cafe con Leche and it's pretty good, but we haven't been back.

I'm pretty sure it's the same owners. The menus are the same (at least they were the last time I checked).

Princeton, NJ......walking distance from Princeton University

I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one who loved that sandwich!! :) The first time I went there after it was removed from the menu I almost got into an argument with the waiter - not that it was his fault the menu had changed, but like I said I used to crave that sandwich so being told I couldn't have it was like a swift kick in the stomach. Sigh...I can almost taste it...

Princeton, NJ......walking distance from Princeton University

When they first opened they had this amazing sandwich (grilled chicken on sourdough with mozzarella, tomato, basil, red onion, lettuce and mayo) that was seriously cravable. Once that left the menu I've found the food to be just as Heater described - "spectacularly inconsistent." I haven't been to the Princeton location in years since we're in PA now, but the New Hope location was a go-to spot if we were in town. After a lot of meals that left us either feeling ill or annoyed by mediocre food, we stopped going. It's a shame because I still remember that amazing chicken sandwich and wish I could have another.

Sweet Lucys?

I know there are plenty of people on here who don't like Sweet Lucy's, but my husband and I have been about a half dozen times now and we love it. I've only tried the pulled pork (side were mac & cheese and spicy collards, along with cornbread) but I have to say I think it's really great BBQ. We brought friends for our latest visit and they also fell in love with the place and we have plans to go later this month with our neighbors.

I should point out, however, that I've never had authentic Southern BBQ so perhaps I don't know what the best of the best truly tastes like. Regardless, we really enjoy Sweet Lucy's and will keep going there as often as we get a BBQ craving.

Bell's Tavern

My husband and I went back in October. Got there early to avoid a long wait. Food was very good - we split the calamari appetizer and each piece was perfectly cooked. I got the spaghetti carbonara which wasn't at all like any carbonara I've ever eaten or made at home. It was good, but not what I think of when I think carbonara. The portion size wasn't very big, which was disappointing. My husband had the chicken parm which came with a house salad. He got the homemade sesame dressing and it was outstanding. Really the best thing we had all night. The chicken parm was good, but he was disappointed with the small portions.

They don't accept credit cards, which they say is an effort to keep prices low. We sat in the bar area and it was very cramped, but my husband struck up a conversation with the bartender and he let my husband try a few different beers before settling on one he liked. We'll definitely be back.

Chick-Fil-A Anonymous

That hasn't been my experience at the store by my house. I always have to wait a few extra minutes, but I get a hot, fresh sandwich with a small cucumber's worth of pickles underneath the chicken. I've never gotten them on the side.
