Anyone have an news on Faust (@ The Dean Hotel) as to when its opening?
Walked by the other day and saw nothing. Motif Magazine lists in in the Open category.
Also heard that Brutopia (Cranston) is very close (mid month). True?

Your Dining Wish for 2014

Many times. I used to work in Bristol and was very happy to find it. They don't do German except Sep-Oct. I do like the place year round.

Knob Creek 9 Year Bourbon, Jefferson 10 Year Rye, Jim Beam Rye, Seeking a Good Rye

Big fan of Templeton Rye. Works both on rocks or mixed. My go to Rye.

What bourbon are you drinking these days?

Can't say enough about Templeton Rye. Great stuff

Your Dining Wish for 2014

German.
I need a German restaurant less than 2 hours from home. Not some place that has a sausage or some other Germanic sounding dish. I want real beer. Real wurst. Real Franken wine. Properly served.
I would probably die after a week, but why not go happy?

I cannot believe that PVD needs anymore Italian restaurants, traditional, modern twists, deconstructed or whatever. Even the non Italian restaurants have 30% of their menus devoted to "Italian" style dishes.

What is your favorite place to buy prepared foods for dinner in RI?

Long ride (for a RI'er) but there is a great pasta place in Wakefield (Pasta to Go?).

Someone mentioned a new German place coming in the old Cuban Revolution space (Valley St?).
Any updates on that?

Lunch with Good Beer before Providence Bruins w/ kids

Murphy's on Fountain St;
just down from Trinity Brewhouse and 1 block from the Civic Center. We stop there almost everytime we go to the game and there are plenty of kids there.

About time we had a German place in the area. I hate schelping out to Springfield everytime I want to scratch my German needs. And Munich is to far.

Child-UNfriendly restaurants in Providence

I have been to each listed place except Justine's. Never even heard of it. Could you expand on it. It sounds like it's just around the corner for NYS.

GUESTS: your job is to SHOW. UP. ON. TIME. Is that really so hard?

Could not agree more. I am always appalled at the assumption that a stated time is "advisory" and just come whenever you think it works into your busy social schedule.
I understand that things happen; but not every time.
Some of our oldest friends were so terrible that we routinely tell them a hour earlier than everyone else so they are "only" 15-30m minutes late.

Providence Cocktail Week

I have seen some of the promotions for the upcoming Providence Cocktail Week and it looks promising.
a. Is this an annual event (i.e. been held before or is this the 1st?)
b. What is not to miss
c. What should be avaoided like the plague?

Mrs T is interested but doesn't want to spend the week after hoping her liver will stop combusting......

Thanks

PVD restaurant with great beer list

I have been there recently; I love the place. The beer choices are outstanding and the food choices ehhh. They do not pretend to be a restaurant; they are a bar/tavern and produce bar/finger food.
I use it as the place where the group meets up, has a few beers and heads out to dinner. Come early, come late and there's no issue.
Hope that helps
Their cocktails are also outstanding and varied

Assessing a bar before ordering

This has been one of the better discussions on this board. Everyone has their way of assessing a bar and the likelihood of getting something that they would enjoy.
I find that if you spend a few seconds asking others what they are drinking, it will quickly give you a good idea of the skill level at the bar. You must take into account the age/sex (drink selection) of the others but most people at the bar will be happy to discuss their choices with you.

Creme de mure?

Made some last night and I agree; to sweet. I think the sweet needs to be cut in 1/2. I was hoping that it would be an addition to the summer line up of Gin & Tonic and Dark & Stormy. Something simple and quick to make. Maybe next time.
Thanks for your help.

Recently came across a drink called (B)ramble? and it calls for something called creme de mure. Long story short, can I sub Chambord for creme de mure?

If you worked for Cott, then you must be familiar with Yacht Club in North Providence. Great Tonic made from their own spring and syrup receipe

Could your/ IS your significant other a picky eater?

#1. I am the picky eater. No cheese, no fish, no eggs. I eat one (1) vegetable of each color. If cows and pigs became extint, I would starve in two weeks.
#2 Wife would eat anything. I mean anything. Like travel channel stuff...........

I travel extensively, so she cooks anything she wants while I am gone and works with me when I am home. When we go out, my theory is that I can find something on the menu at any place we go to, so its not a big issue. Occasionally, I will go out with friends to eat things that she wont (mostly BBQ).

We've been married 30 years in May
