Awesome input everyone. Many thanks. We are in town for 4 nights and do want to try as much authentic "non touristy" New York fare possible.

Dining near Hyatt Istanbul?

Thank you, we stumbled upon Pera and after a week of kebaps and eggplant it was one of the most enjoyable Thai meals we ever had! Also ate at a Korean bbq place off Taksim Square that was quite good!

Thank you, I think we will schedule our departure from Dallas a little later-take the kids to the Dealey Plaza so we get to Krebs by dinnertime.

Road Trip from Dallas to McAlester OK

We are going to visit my folks in southeastern Oklahoma, I've never been there. Flying into DFW, then driving up I-75 tp McAlester. Any suggestions for somewhere special to eat along the way? The day of travel happens to be my husbands birthday.

Also any suggestions for bbq in Dallas for when we return?

Lychee Ice Cream in Vegas?

Any Filipino or oriental grocery should carry Magnolia brand lychee ice cream. That's your best bet.

Gem off Via Veneto (Lo Stil Novo)

Thanks for this post. We got into Rome yesterday, this turned out to be just up the street from out hotel, the Rose Garden Palace. My husband and I enjoyed the lamb "variation" four different pieces of lamb cooked in a distinctive way, lamb chops and 4 other items I unfortunately can't quite describe adequately. What is the lamb dish on top of beets? Our two teenage daugthers ordered the sea bass and pasta and enjoyed these immensely. The house red was quite good. They also served a small bowl of "soup"-cheickpea cream with slivers of calamari. The young man in a suit who served us and young lady hostess are incredibly charming and attentive. The atmosphere and lighting was magical in the restaurant.

BahamaViking-what a cool name! Thanks we love Middle Eastern and Greek food, those are great tips. We plan to spend the first day or so after arriving hoofing it around the neighborhood familiarizing ourselves before venturing out into the other parts of the city-it appears that the Santa Maria DellaVittoria is probably close enough to walk. Are there any good gelaterias nearby?

BEST RESTAURANTS IN PALM SPRINGS

AC3197
Try Billy Reed's, 1800 North Palm canyon
A little further out is Huell Howser's favorite steakhouse, Capri in
Desert Hot Springs http://capri-italianrestaurant.com/ great T-Bone.
Both of these are fairly reasonable and not too fancy.

Great story Jen-as they are a bit older we do plan on having them stay in at the hotel with their cousins who are about their age so we can go out a couple of times for a romantic dinner. My husband posted on a travel board and got many suggestions. I'll be sure to report back!

By American, I mean a sit down restaurant to get a nice burger or chicken sandwich with fries. We may need this option for our teenage girls Thanks for the link on Chinese food.

Non-Italian Food Options in Rome-Via Veneto area

Ohh-please don't flame me guys. My husband is taking me and my 2 daughters to Rome this October for 2 weeks. We are staying at the Rose Garden Palace at Via BuonCampagni and Via Veneto. He has thoroughly researched all our Italian dining options-trattorias, pizzerias and gelaterias he wants to visit. I do know after a few days we will want to take a break from all that magnificent Italian food just for variety however and hope the folks on this board can recommend good, reasonable asian or american restaurants located near where we are staying. I have noticed there is a Hard Rock cafe near our hotel so that is one option but any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Grazie!
