Changes at Tic Toc Diner
OMG, I haven't heard the name Kless's Diner in years. It was a toss up every Saturday night after bar hopping whether to go there, Don's or Don's Barn. I think all three of them are gone now.
NC now allows rare burgers!
Thanks, Kathleen. I'll definitely be checking that out on our next visit to SC.

Hopefully the state of South Carolina will smarten up & do the same.
40th birthday party at home -- menu suggestions needed!
Check with local delis or butcher shops. They may come & cook everything for you. My friend did that for her 40th & she had about 100 people also. They did everything including serving & clean up so my friend didn't have to do a thing & was able to enjoy herself.
Matawan Cafe, a.k.a. Chopped Salad Shoppe, a.k.a., Philly Cheesesteaks, a.k.a. 18Burgers, a.k.a. ...
There's a Starbuck's in my office building. Their tables are located next to the building's loading dock.

I couldn't figure out why they put those tables & chairs out there to begin with, especially since your views are either the auto repair shop directly across from the tables, the oil tank removal place across 516 or the bagel joint diagonally across.
Last time I went past there, it was 5/5 at around 1:30 pm & it was closed.
Tilted Kilt coming to Brunswick Square mall
We went to the one in Myrtle Beach a few months ago. It's actually not that bad. Boyfriend will be a happy camper cause it's 5 minutes from his house & has a nice beer selection. Oh, yeah, he likes the outfits on the barmaids too.
Funniest thing you seen in a restaurant?
We were driving down to Florida about 15 or so years ago & had stopped at JR's just to stretch our legs. We went to the Denny's that was right next to their parking lot & boyfriend ordered the Split Pea Soup, but asked for croutons for his soup instead of crackers. The waitress looked at him & said "you can put croutons in split pea soup? I thought you could only put them on salads. I've never heard of that." She then put our order in & ran off to tell the other waitresses what she had just learned.
Matawan Cafe, a.k.a. Chopped Salad Shoppe, a.k.a., Philly Cheesesteaks, a.k.a. 18Burgers, a.k.a. ...
Just checked their menu. Reminds me of the Babu episode in Seinfeld with a little bit of everything. I tried it when it was strictly cheesesteak/Italian Hot Dogs & was not impressed.

I saw that Matawan Cafe sign. I think that's about the 5th or 6th place in that spot in a couple of years. Is Chelsea Creamery going where Brain Freeze was?
First trip to St. Thomas US Virgin Islands
If Fish Tales is till around, give that a try. It's just down the street from Big Bambooz, next to the Ferry Terminal.
White Castle coming to Marlboro
I have to be in that area on Saturday, so I'll definitely stop by. I'm also close to the one that was just re-done on 9, but it's a PITA to get in & out of that lot.
Where is the best cannoli in Monmouth County?
Definitely tell her to ask for the cannoli. There were a lot of other pastries I would have loved to try, but that'll have to wait for my trip next week. I love their fresh mozz. I usually have the mozz guy make me a small chunk. It's just me at home & as much as I love their fresh mozz, I probably couldn't finish one of those big chunks in a week & it would go bad.
Foie Gras in Old Bridge!?! New "JUST Restaurant" opens on Route 9
This is about that distance from my house also. We'll have to go check it out. Neither BF nor I are wine drinkers; he's a tap beer guy & I'm a mixed drink person. Is there a full bar with tap beer?
Where is the best cannoli in Monmouth County?
As promised, I TOFTT & picked up a cannoli at Livotis this morning. I could have gotten a package of 3 that were already packaged & for sale in the store, but opted to get just one in the bakery dept. I couldn't see them in the display case, so I asked & it turns out they have the shells on the counter & they fill them fresh which I prefer anyway. It was pretty tasty with just a few chocolate chips. It was a tiny bit too sweet for my taste, but not too sweet that I wouldn't buy it again. The pre-packaged ones were $5.99 for 3, the individual one was $2.50.
Where is the best cannoli in Monmouth County?
That reminds me, I have to go to Livoti's for some fresh mozz over the weekend. While I'm there, I will TOFTT & pick up a cannoli & let you know how it is. I bought a couple of their mini-croissants which were pretty good.
Great food in Old Bridge/Sayreville/Marlboro area?? Recs please!!!
I agree with joonjoon. Shanghai Bun is excellent. For pizza, we like Denino's on 34, a little south of Shanghai Bun on 34. Up the road on 34, a bit north of Big Ed's, is the Pine Tavern. They have $5.00 lunch specials every day & various special nights, like $10 steak night on Mondays & pasta night on Wednesdays, which is usually less than $10.
Let us know which places you end up trying & if you find any places not mentioned here.
Fireside Grill and Bar in Marlboro
Thanks for the update. Usually the only time we pass this place is on the way to Federici's, but we may stop in for a drink on the way home. Don't have kids, but may have to try & score some cotton candy for ourselves.
Fireside Grill and Bar in Marlboro
Just wondering if anyone has given this spot another try since their initial visits. We haven't been in that area, so haven't stopped in.
NYKers Charleston to Myrtle Beach please help with Myrtle Beach suggestions
Thanks so much, Tiger66. I'm putting it on my list of places to check out on our next visit.
NYKers Charleston to Myrtle Beach please help with Myrtle Beach suggestions
We usually go down to MB from NJ a few times a year & like to go down to Murrells Inlet & are always looking for new places to eat while there. Is Russell's on the Marsh Walk? We've been to Prosser's, Drunken Jacks & the Dead Dog down that area. Where is Russell's in relation to those places? Someone recommended Lee's Inlet Kitchen to us also. Is that place any good?
Sugar Bay Resort & Spa - All inclusive food recommendations?
Don't know about any of the restaurants at Sugar Bay, but you'll be right near Red Hook which has a few nice places to eat. We like Fish Tales, Molly Molone's, Big Bambu's & Duffy's Love Shack, all very casual. All of those are in about a 1 1/2 block area, so if you don't see something in one, you can just walk over & check one of the others. For a bit more upscale, there's the Banana Tree Grill at Bluebeard's Castle & Havana Blue at the Marriott. Enjoy your trip.
Jack Baker's on NJ33
we've been there a couple of times. First one or two times it was fine. Last time we went we were sitting at the bar & it seemed the bartenders were more interested in talking among themselves than actually bartending. At one point, we thought we'd have to go behind the bar to pour/mix our own drinks. Maybe if we're in the area & are hungry, we'll go there just for convenience sake, not a place we'd go out of our way for. I do have to admit they did a great job in remodeling compared to the old Lobster Shanty.
Fiamma 35
Not yet & they keep leaving postcards on the cars at the train station parking lot for all kinds of specials & happy hours. Years ago, it was Martini's, then it's gone through a couple of other incarnations, but we never went. I'm curious myself if anyone has tried it.
Ben & Jerry's Schweddy Balls
I found it at the Ben & Jerry's stand in Macy's on 34th St. I think it was on the 4th floor.
If you like Joe & Pat's/Ciro's Pizza of Staten Island........
That's right near my house & I've heard good reviews from some friends of mine who've stopped in. I'll have to give it a try one night.
Fireside Grill and Bar in Marlboro
We just got home from there. We were lucky & got a parking spot right near the entrance around 5:30-ish. We left about 7:45 & there were a few spots available, but cars were also parked along 79. The place is really nice inside. 40 tvs. There are a bunch of hi-tops in the bar area & those are first come first served. we were lucky & managed to get seats at the bar after waiting about 20 mins. Service was pretty good. Boyfriend had a bar pie which he said could have been done a little more & I had the sloppy joe sliders which were good, but could have been a bit hotter, both temperature & spicy-wise. We'll also be trying it again someday for lunch.
Federici's in Freehold
We also like their "special" lasagna with the ground beef & sausage. Reminds me of my uncles, which is my favorite. Afterwards, we like to go sit in the bar at the remodeled American Hotel for a couple of drinks. Very nice remodel job on the place.
As an FYI for anyone who hasn't been to Federici's yet, if you plan to go, it's cash only, but in case you forget, there is an ATM in the back.

Lunch Today at Shanghai Bun Matawan
I actually had to be in the area today, so I stopped in & got the noodles with hot peanut sauce. Just like the hot version of my fave cold sesame noodles. They're delicious, but I'm not sure I like them hot, so right now they're chilling in the fridge & I'll attack them later. I'm definitely going back to try other stuff. I was there at a little after 12 noon & the place was packed.

Thanks for the tips, everybody. The grabbing a menu & circling what you want reminds me of the local Chinese restaurant we went to when I was a kid up in Irvington.
