Why do people often not tip for Chinese take-out?

I think I started tipping for takeout when I noticed how hard working the women were at the takeout counter of our best local Chinese restaurant. I rarely figured out a percentage, but simply handed two folded singles to the woman who handed me the package (after she checked to see all items were included and properly packaged). These women hustle for hours on end.
Now, I pretty much do that whenever I pick up food from a restaurant, unless there is a good reason not to. I think good service and hard work (with, unfortunately, inferior pay) deserve recognition. Not to introduce a disparate topic, but I also tip the hotel room-cleaning

Anything good, at all, near Peoria AZ?

On a very short visit to Phoenix, I want to take out a friend who lives and works in Peoria. Is there a single recommendation for decent, hopefully better than decent, dining in that area, give or take
10 miles?

Eating out in Rome

We go to Rome with some regularity, and like to take our clients out to simple, comfortable places, as they're simple comfortable people, briar pipe makers. Struggling for a place to eat on our last visit we found Mamma Angelina's. I felt I'd like it the moment we walked in, and was right. Our Roman guests (6) liked it very much, too. I'd say fish was the focus, but everything was very good, and the 10 of us felt free to sample from the plates of others at the table. The negative aspect is its location, which is I-don't-know-where in Rome, but it can't be more than 10 min. north of Naples. If you're interested in a strictly local joint (near a lot of high rise ap'ts....I can tell you that...but we walked a lot and it seemed quite safe) and like to explore it's on viale Arrigo Boito 65. e-mail is: Can't be too far from some form of public transport.
However, I wrote because my partner wants to know if there truly is a House of 1000 Beers in Rome, and where it might be. Thanks

Anything decent in Merced?

Thank you. It is all I have to go on, so I'll give it a shot.

Anything decent in Merced?

I'll be spending a night and full day in Merced. Any knowledgeable locals have a good restaurant recommendation. Tasty food, of almost any stripe, is the only requisite. Thanks.

Any decent BBQ joints Between Richmond & Charlottesville VA?

Those look like two excellent tips, and I'm hard pressed to choose, but I think I'll start with Buz & Ned's as they also have an excellent craft beer selection. Maybe that shows a little extra concern. I'll report back after the trip, which is at the beginning of Oct. Thank you for the info.

Are there any at least pretty good BBQ joints for me to stop at between the Richmond VA airport and Charlottesville? I am happy to get off the h'way and drive some miles if necessary

Best Cookbook You Own?

You're a very high brow crowd, and I use many of the books mentioned, too, but the book that has the most spots on it, from many years of use, is San Francisco Firehouse Favorites. The very best Macaroni and Cheese (and most sophisticated by a long distance), the very best Pesto with pasta and for a quick guest dinner main course, a superb roast requiring nothing:"Ask your meatman to bone a loin of pork, replace the bone with Italian anise sausages in casings, roll and tie. Roast...a 3 lb. roast for 2 1/2 hrs at 325. Allow to stand 15 min...carve" Called 'A Remarkable Roast.' Oh, also the very best Crab Cioppino recipe I've come across and I'm just getting started.
