Lunch - Battery Park, Pastrami Midtown Please Help

Thanks for the response. We are staying in Midtown. My son has a major list of 'to do/see/eat/shop and I am trying to fit as much in as possible. On this particular day, we are catching the 6:40am water taxi over the Fulton Landing and then walking the Brooklyn Bridge over to Manahttan for the sunrise. He then wants a quick glimpse of City Hall, the Woolworth Building, Financial Distict, Ground Zero, and then lots of shopping at Century 21. After shopping we are going to Battery Park and over to ride the Staten Island Ferry back and forth. We want to eat either in the Park or on the Ferry ride. I don't know how far the Seaport is from there.....

Pastrami in Kansas City is not even close to NYC and I miss the real deal. With this schedule I have not figured out how to get to Katz logistically and am hoping for something closer to our hotel so I can just go out and get it for me! I would really llike my son to have a real pastrami sandwich as well.

Thanks again.

Thanks for your response.

We are staying in Midtown. On this particular day we are going to take the water taxi early before sunrise and walk the Brooklyn Bridge back over to Manhattan. He wants a quick look at the Woolworth Building, Financial District, Ground Zero and then some shopping at Century 21. We are going to walk down to Battery Park and then take the Staten Island Ferry back and forth. We want to get something in Battery Park or thereabouts to either eat in the park (on a bench or whatever) or the the Ferry ride. This is a pretty full day and then on to dinner, theatre, etc. So thanks for the Seaport suggestions but are they close enough to manage his itinerary?

Also, I know where Katz's and Midtown is. We just have limited time and he wants to see so much, I haven't been able to figure out out to fit it in.

Lunch - Battery Park, Pastrami Midtown Please Help

Need Suggestions Please – Lunch for Mom and teen son somewhere down around or in Battery Park/Staten Island Ferry area. We want to eat on the fly but don’t want to waste our NYC food experience. (His long-awaited first NYC trip.)

Another day we need/want good pastrami (hot on roll (no rye) with mustard, pickles and peppers) in either Battery Park area or in Midtown (Katz is too far out of the way for this trip.)

Also, please some comments on these choices (I gleaned from the Chow Board, MenuPages, and friends who do not live in NYC). Thank you all so much!

Makes a lot more sense...thanks so much.

I have been driving myself crazy trying to figure out the steakhouse. He loves steak; I am more into the salads and maybe chicken or pork. I heard Keen''s is good, what about Del Frisco?

As for Sarabeths, I was thinking Central Park South? Son is more into Belgian waffles and bacon for breakfast, I’m flexible.

Saturday the play is Mamma Mia at Winter Garden.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will plan on Szechuan Gourmet for dinner on Saturday.
As for Thursday, you are so right! I haven’t been able to figure out how to plan that stuff. Son wants to take a quick glance at Ground Zero (not museum or anything), shop at Century 21 for an hour or two, walk quickly through Battery Park, ride the Ferry and do the Brooklyn Bridge. Don’t care about Seaport, but it would be nice to walk around a little for him to see Financial District buildings. I just can’t figure out how and where for the eating. Does that sound any better? I was just trying to avoid carrying any shopping bags, but that’s not really a big deal. How do I get over the bridge to the restaurant? Any suggestions on the pastrami? What do you think about the rest of the itinerary? Thanks!!!

Son's 18th Birthday NYC food, shows, shop help!

Bringing 18 year old son to NYC for his first visit in October 2008. He wants to eat, shop and see Broadway shows. This is what I have planned so far and I would really appreciate any thoughts on my food choices. He is big on pizza, Philly cheese steaks, wants to have a ‘real New York pretzel’ (soft, not the hard street cart ones), NY style steak (which is not just for the food but also the ambience, because we now live in the Midwest with great beef). He is not really into ethnic or seafood. The only Chinese he likes are the spicy chicken recipes. More a traditional American palate with a little bit of adventure – which I want to push some. We are staying at the Renassance at the tip of Times Square (because I got a great deal). Also need a good choice for breakfast on Saturday and Sunday (or brunch). Thanks! During the day it is tennis shoes, jeans (or similar). We will change for dinner. Any kind of dress is fine but I am not really into too frou frou for clothes or food. This trip is mostly about what he wants.

Wednesday Night – Ellen’s Stardust Diner (for the birthday song and he’ll love the singing, what about the food?)
Thursday – take the hop on/hop off bus (because it’s free for us) to Battery Park, then onto Staten Island Ferry, Walk though South Street Seaport to go over the Brooklyn Bridge. Cross back over and walk or ride(?) to Katz’s Deli for lunch for his first ever pastrami sandwich. Walk around and through Financial District, Ground Zero, and shop at Century 21. Back on the bus to hotel, pretheatre dinner at John’s Pizza (does it take long to get in and out of John’s Pizza prior to a show?) Are there any good options within walking in that area that will serve dessert or a quick bite if hungry after show?

Friday – take the hop on/hop off bus through ue and UW plus Harlem, etc. Lunch at Shorty’s for Philly cheese steak. Wander back to Bryant Park, Library, Grand Central. Do Top of the Rock. Dinner at Ruth Chris then show.

Saturday – Breakfast/Brunch at Sarabeth’s. Wander 5th and Madison Avenue, Central Park most of the day. Lunch over to Gray’s Papaya then walk down through Columbus Circle, etc.
Don’t know what to do about dinner prior to theatre, suggestions?
Sunday our day is completely open until early evening???? Thanks so much for any and all assistance! My son and I have been planning this trip since he was small! I love NYC and have missed it so much!
