ISO Family Friendly Place for 40th Bday Celebration
Hi-
My brother will be in town from DC to celebrate his 40th bday with the fam. His tastes are pretty basic -- think bar food mixed with steakhouse. He said his ideal meal would be shrimp cocktail followed by lamb chops. We're thinking somewhere near Ctral Park though really anywhere in Manhattan will do. The only catch is that the place should be kid friendly as there will probably be three 6 year olds and 1 ten year old.
Thanks in advance for any and all input!
Wedding Gift for Good Friends
Hi--
A couple friends of mine got married this summer, and unfortunately, I wasn't able to make it out west for the big day.
I am looking for suggestions for a fun food-related wedding gift. I have never been to Seattle and don't know what it has to offer in terms of restaurant gift certificates, food/wines classes, etc... If they lived in New York, for example, I might want to get them a certificate for a cheese/wine or beer pairing class at Murray's.
I am wide open to suggestions.
Thanks!

New Vietnamese in BK?
I am trying to recall an article I read in a magazine about a new Vietnamese restaurant (not Banh Mi) in Brooklyn. Does this ring a bell with anyone? I vaguely remember it being about a chef from Manhattan that was opening a shop in Brooklyn.
good place for drinks, tapas, first date
There is also Bar Carrera - there is one on 6th Avenue and Houston and also one on 2nd Avenue and 12th Street. The one in the on 6th and Houston is more spacious.
Dinner Gift Certificate for Two
Thanks, Jacey-- both sound nice.
In repsonse to the other message-- I am looking for something in the $40-60 pp (without drinks) range and prefer French, Italian or Mediterranean.
Dinner Gift Certificate for Two
Hi--
I am looking to give a restaurant gift certificate for my brother and sister-in-law either in the Maryland suburbs area (Betheseda, Silver Spring, etc...) or DC proper. Somewhere they can go on "a date to." They have 4 year daughter and so they rarely go out and so I want the place to be kind of special with delicious fare-- any cuisine will do.
Thanks!
Little Brazil for Work Dinner- Need Help Choosing
Between:
Via Brasil
Ipanema
and
Emporium Brasil
For informal work dinner for 15-20 people. Looking for good combination of food and decor. It seems that most people here like Via Brasil but agree that the decor is lacking.
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks!
1st time to Buddakan
Again, the appetizers are fantastic-- I like the boneless spare ribs, the pork belly buns and the lobster egg rolls. The Asian greens and the long beans for sides are great. I also like sitting in the bar area (you can order from the full menu) where there's a bit more ambience than at the side tables downstairs. But again, try to sit in the main dining room if you can.
