1$ Tacos are back in Asbury - Cotija

The one in BB is Joyce's Bakery & Taqueira on Main St.

The one in Asbury is only known by the building - no name, and it makes and sells baked products like an old time bakery (maybe not the numbers and variety), but I believe that they 'lead' with the baked goods.

Next time I'm by, I'll stop in and grab a menu should they have and thus see who they are. Gone this weekend though - I'll be happy to NOT be here at the shore.

Is there any OTHER way than that in getting a true and real taco???? Agree with you 110% Jason - two layered soft corn totillas, your choice of meat, minced onions, fresh cilantro and wedges of lime - along with your choice of salsas, rojo or verde.

In fact, you've just decided my lunch today. A call will go into Joyce's Taqueria in Bound Brook will have me ordering a trio ($2/taco). I have been using a bakery on the west side of Main St. in AP for my taco 'fix' of late - never visited Cojita (were they per chance on the East side of Main?).

Btw, keep the BSB on the down low. ;-) It's getting harder to get a bar stool in that shoebox to have their food of late. I've yet to have better honey lime chili chicken wings than what one gets there. You've got good taste.

Grimaldi's Coal Brick Oven Pizzeria.....$5 Bucks For Bread? What's Up With That?

Doesn't Newark and perhaps surrounding towns such as Harrison, etc. still get their water from the Pequannock Watershed? That water, coming from Clinton, Cannistear and Charlottesburg reservoirs, should have the same ph and mineral/nutrients as the Catskill watersheds supplying NYC.

I may have to reconsider after viewing that pic Vedivici. Maybe I'll try the Green Brook one as I work nearby.

My pleasure. Orsillo's is on Cedar Grove Rd. in a strip mall with the GrandMaMa just so good. Vesuvios' is on 10th Ave. in Belmar right next to Jacks by the train station.

I guess if I lived near the Highlands, I'd give it a shot. I've yet to read anything that would want me to go out of my way to visit Grimaldi's. I will visit a certain restaurant that is sited across the street - that's worth the 15 minute ride to the Highlands.

I've got to get my tail on over to Vesuvio's before the holiday begins and the hordes of college kids start making their way to Bradley>Belmar.

And a slight digression (for shore pizzarias), I will NOT eat any Grandma's pie unless it's from Pizza Orsillo's (in Somerset). By far the best that I've had anywhere. Damiano takes great pride in what he does in that store of his. Sauce is outstanding, fresh ingredients, and there's never any 'cinching' on the garlic. Brought home a large and a personal whole wheat (for my bride), and the family was in full agreement after hearing me talk how wonderful the Grandma version is here.

need birthday restaurant help!!

Please let us know what you decided on - either any of the CH suggestions, or perhaps you found something on your own. Always nice when a poster is looking for input and gives us 'same' after their dinner. TIA

need birthday restaurant help!!

Just an addendum. Today's AP Press has an article that most neighboring towns have 'no vacancy'. You're going to have to look inland. Perhaps Lambertville/New Hope will 'fit the bill'?

You have a bit of a hurdle should you be looking to come down to the shore this weekend as we're going to be 'Bamboozled'. That means the area around Asbury Park is definitely off limits. I'd suggest Atlantic Highlands which will see no pressure, has a nice hotel in town (Blue Bay Inn) with some pretty good restaurants. AMA (Italian), Copper Canyon (S/W with a great tequila bar), Memphis Pig Out, a pruported good Thai restaurant, a vg pastry shop (Flaky Tart). Some good bars, and you can walk to the waters edge (great views of NYC) or you can take the car up to Mt. Mitchell for an even better view.

Other option is Spring Lake (10 minutes south of AP) with your accomodations being resigned to being B&B's (right on the ocean). Restaurants? Whispers at the Wellington Hotel, the Black Trumpet and a few others that I can't dredge up at this writing.

Spring Lake is definitely prettier, and it is ocean front, but Atlantic Highlands can work for you as well.

Outside Dining near Brookdale Community College

I'd set my view for Asbury, as it provides the 'best' setting for outdoor dining (provided you don't have an east wind - which doesn't appear to be in the cards for tomorrow). Plus, you won't have your dining experience marred by the drone and fumes of traffic (Red Bank). WindandSea is a very nice choice as well - a bit of a ride though (but a beauty) as one would have to navigate RB and then the peninsula to Ocean Ave Sea Bright. .

Try Langosta Lounge (Asbury Park) if you want something a bit funky, fun and a different yet an accessible menu.

Red Bank Flavour Festival ~ May 6th?

Interesting parking dynamic. A dear friend of mind had an 'interview' (he's a musician and a 'local') with a meeting scheduled at Starbucks (which is on the corner of Monmouth and Broad). He had to park 11 blocks away (near the Y), and this is a guy who when we go to the Basie finds parking that's proximous to the theater even as we arrive just about show time (for spring and summer evenings) and RB gets truly jammed.

You 'take away' the MAIN lot in RB, I have a hard time believing that it was a 'snap' for anyone - maybe for folks coming in form LS/R & FH who came up Front and park near the hospital etc. which is not where the 'crush' of incoming traffic is coming from.

From the looks of the event (taste test), I don't know that I missed much - glad that all enjoyed. Once that sun peeked out yesterday, RB was the last place in my thoughts as to how to finish up the weekend down here.

Mad Hatter in Seabright... what happened?

Have a good time CB, but hanging out at the Tiki Bar today will have you ordering 'brown water' instead of beer- wind's been out of the east and it's very cool and damp near the beach.

Asparagus in NJ

Been buying fresh 'Jersey' asparagus from Wegmans (last Saturday) as well should you have a store nearby.

Red Bank Flavour Festival ~ May 6th?

With the Festival 'sited' at the White St. Parking lot, you're left to fend for on street parking and from past experiences (relayed to me from others) is that it is a 'jam scene'.

Should be nice weather though. Though I agree with Kick as to just stopping into the Farmer's Market (it's been a long winter, regardless of it being mild with fresh local produce) whatever it may be is always a welcomed opp.

Best Breakfast Monmouth County

I'm with JSFein as to dim sum. Just don't have a good one proximous to my locale which is the AP area. But that's the ticket in my mind as well.

Fwiw, I had a marvelous breakfast courtesy of a chef friend of mine just this past Saturday - stopped by to drop off a piece of equipment I borrowed, and his GF and he were cooking. Poached eggs with a duck hash (duck were leftovers from Tre Amici). Outstanding.

Rats Restaurant

Heading to the Grounds for Sculpture in a couple of weeks. Intend on eating at the Blue Bottle Cafe in nearby Hopewell rather than Rats.

Local Smoke BBQ neptune

Mark, where were you early yesterday as I 'searched my mind' for where to have an inexpensive yet 'want' meal. I wanted a beer as well (which I could've BYO'ed).

Went to The Brickwall, with their pulled pork sandwich being just so-so. I do love their mac & cheese though. I need to get in there just to try their smoked poppers, though I would love if they had 'shrimp poppers' as well - can't seem to find anywhere that serves them.

WaWa closed in South River

Wow!!!!!!

Red Bank, pre-Basie dinner

Jrvedicici.....a far better and even closer option is Nicholas. Having said that, these pre concert requests (on CH) rely on recommendations that provide proximity and the ability to get in and out of dinner quickly and still have time to get to the show.

While dining at Nicholas will never address having dinner on the fly, most of us (and I'm local who, while being local, is pressed for time even heading into Red Bank for dinner and show, even more so when I go to the Wellmont in Montclair).

We all agree that there are no stellar eateries in town - there are serviceable ones even though they come at a cost that may have one questioning value, but you ususally can get a decent meal there -in the end, it's all about being able to park the car (for the nite), walk to the restaurant, take in the town, fresh air, and walk to the theater - a scenario that can't be done in most of NJ because of it's sprawl.

Newark near Prudential Center, pre-concert suggestions needed...

Scholar, while it is nice of you to offer a suggestion, do you have any idea how 'jammed' BCP will be for a hockey, I mean Springsteen show? Think of Stan's across the street from Yankee Stadium. I'm with Tommy as to eating at the Orange Squirrel or any other place out of town (and early enough). Or you could just head into the 'Neck' for some Portugeese food ; SolMar is a good one based on knowledgeable foodie friends. Just know that you're limited cuisine wise when you travel there. Have fun.

Korean Tacos

The question of the day will be 'what will they charge for their tacos'? I am in AP 3-4x a week, and walking on the boards yesterday by one of the other container 'shops' (closed with last season's prices) - I couldn't help but notice sausage & pepper sandwiches as well as cheese steak sandwiches at $8 a pop.

Getting 'value' anywhere on the AP boardwalk is a 'long shot'. As posted earlier, we shall wait &
see.....

One dinner and maybe a breakfast or brunch in or near Edison

Consider the Skylark Diner.....http://www.skylarkdiner.com/

Korean Tacos

haven't tasted good Korean food since Eugene's 'folded up' (kids wanted no part of the business) in Browns Mills.

Looking for Bachelor party recomendation near Jersey shore.

I'm with MGZ as to 709 - that and Shipwreck are your 'best bets'.

Korean Tacos

Saw that as I walked on the boards this past weekend - it's next to the Cubacan Restaurant.

We shall soon see what it's all about.

Late lunch in Manasquan Area

While it is pub grub, I really like Harrigan's in Sea Girt (Rte. 71). They make a superb sizzling steak sandwich.

Best Coffee Houses/Bars in NJ?

What you won't find here freaknut is anything that resembles places in Marin or Sonomoa. One of my favorites was the 'Coffee Bazaar' as you have in Guernerville. Think of that place often - cool hang, wi-fi, great music, even greater coffeee, pastries and sandwiches.

There's nothing like that here in NJ. If you do find, let me know.

Trinity and the Pope Asbury

Adriatic - used to be a 'diamond in the rough' down here. It will now be 'spiffed' up, have a new dress put on, and after initial 'fawning' and 'adoration as to what a pretty girl she is', will soon descend into a place that reminds one of 'the Dish' commercial in which 'WE GET' a grandaughter (or in this case a restaurant) that has a dog collar. Rufff, ruffff.

Trinity and the Pope Asbury

T&P is for sale if I'm not mistaken.

Fish (Urban Dining) or Daniel's Bistro?

Daniel's was a wonderfully good dining experience last nite. Service is impeccable - attention to making sure our wine glasses did not stay empty or required filling; the same for our water as well. Our server (Sarah) was terrific. Top notch- from articulating the evening's specials, to answering any of our questions, and just having this understated professionalism that you like seeing in a server .

The amuse-bouche of split pea soup and corned beef on crostini was a nice starter. More than a few of us commented how nice it would be to have a bowl of that goodness as a course.

Spring greens salads for 3 of us with one calamari appetizer (sans any breading in a light tomato broth with a dollop of lemon aioli). There were also 3 orders of the scallops as well (with a crab risotto and finished with lump crab meat atop and hart verticort). The scallops may have been sauteed in a champagne butter sauce - but what I did know was that all immensely enjoyed that dish.

I 'stayed' the course with my ordering the Zuppa di Pesce (all of the shellfish cooked just right - without even the slightest hint of being overdone). That dish came with a side of cappelini with some calamari as well. A Gary Farrell Pinot Noir was just the ticket for 'sealing' my dining experience last nite. The ladies split a Jordan Chardonnay.

A nice sendoff were the flourless brownies with a rasberry sauce that Sarah provided the table as we finished up.

Daniel's deserves a return visit - to try the Osso Bucco, the short ribs, the halibut. A very good restaurant where the service and food are 'equals'. And that makes for a great nite. Thanks to all who recommended that I go.
