kosher
nona betta-the food there is great! dairy italian in the old roman ghetto. there are a bunch of kosher restaurants in the area.
steak and sushi
so I just looked at the menus for both Prime KO and Abigael's, and Abigael's is more appealing and seems somewhat more reasonably priced. Does anyone have thoughts on which is better? and can you get sushi in the downstairs part of Abigael's, or only in the separate upstairs part? thanks so much!
steak and sushi
Thanks, all. I will look up menu at Prime KO, but it sounds good and I always like to try somewhere new. I know that the sushi is obviously different from what you would eat in a non-kosher place -- but I think my non-kosher friends underdstand that!
steak and sushi
getting together with old friends who do not keep kosher, but we do. Looking for nice place in NYC for steak and sushi. I think Prime Grill does both, but may be a bit too expensive. Any other suggestions?
substitution for non-dairy creamer
thanks, all. Unable to find it before shabbat, I ended up with a strawberry soup that had a water/white wine base and no non-dairy creamer. It wasn't bad, but I still have 4 ripe mangoes and now I need to do something with them!
substitution for non-dairy creamer
thanks! Has anyone since this mimiccreme at Fairway?
substitution for non-dairy creamer
for a cold strawberry-mango soup, do you think I can substitute parve soy milk for non-dairy creamer? I never like the ingredients on the non-dairy creamers -- always seem so chemical to me! thanks.
Center for Kosher Culinary Arts
Thanks ! I read for a while, and got totally intimidated . . .
Center for Kosher Culinary Arts
Has anyone taken courses at the CKCA in Brooklyn? Or perhaps done one of the certificate programs? I am thinking about it, but I'd want to know it was really worthwhile! Thanks!
kosher catering for a friday night dinner in my home
that is exactly who it was! I got their menu and it looked delicious, but it was a little more "high end" and expensive than what I needed. I ended up catering from our local supersol, and it was absolutely delicious. But I do look forward sometime to doing the Steven M. Herman -- hopefully some other occasion will present itself! We also had main event for our bat mitzvah, and it was fantastic.
kosher catering for a friday night dinner in my home
I'd be interested in finding out about both, although in the end, I'll probably end up just bringing the food in and cleaning up myself!
kosher catering for a friday night dinner in my home
I am going to host a dinner in my home in Westchester on an upcoming Shabbat evening, for about 30 people. I can bring in from local Supersol, but I am wondering if there is anywhere more interesting anyone can suggest. I once went to a delicious meal catered by a place in Connecticut; it may have been Steven K. Herman, but I'm not sure. Has anyone used them, or have other suggestions? I'd like it to be really special; it is the shabbat preceding my daughter's bat mitzvah. Thanks!
cranberry bake
sorry; flour was there and I didn't see it! Thanks again! I think the person who made it for my daughter substituted fresh apples; do you think 2?
cranberry bake
can someone do me an enormous favor and post the recipe from the cookbook "Quick and Kosher," by Geller, for the cranberry bake? My daughter had it last week and wants me to make it for shabbat. I haven't had a chance to buy the book yet (but I will!) and I can't reach the person who made it for my daughter. Thanks so much!
tasti-d-lite
thanks -- I just wondered why, in a largely kosher neighborhood like my own, they didn't prominently proclaim themselves kosher. seems strange. Also, it is lactose free -- so that's why I eat it!
Shelter Rock Jewish Center (DeLuxe Caterers)
We got married at Shelter Rock many years ago, and the food was delicious. My sister in law was married there somewhat more recently (maybe 7 years ago), and it was great again. They did let us taste the food though; maybe you could press them on that?
tasti-d-lite
Is tasti-d-lite kosher? One just opened in my neighborhood, but no teudah is posted. Also, it seems very pricey; more than I remember from other branches I have gone to -- does anyone know what a small cup goes for in Great Neck or Manhattan?
kosher in Greece
we will be in Athens and Rhodes for vacation this month. We are having shabbat meals at the Chabad in Athens; is there any other kosher food available? My understanding is that there is nothing in Rhodes and we'll have to go veggie. Anyone know anything different? thanks!
replicating an appetizer
anyone have any recipe ideas to replicate Le Marais's lamb chili with avocado mousse? My husband raved about it, and I'd love to serve something along those lines to company!
pesach shopping
thanks; I guess I should have searched first, although no real replies of any note to that post.
pesach shopping
Has anybody been to Pomegranite for pesach shopping? Is it great? If not, any recommendations in Brooklyn for all the staples, and then some more interesting Pesach products? (cheeses, baked goods). thanks!
pasta factory in teaneck will be meat
wow! we were just there last night, and I thought the cheese fondue was delicious! oh well!
SHABBAT IN GEORGIA
anyone ever spent Shabbat on the University of Georgia, Athens, campus? we are thinking about eating there for Shabbat, and davening at the HIllel there. Any advice or thoughts would be welcome!
subway closing?
passed by the store myself at 5:00, and it certainly appears to be closed. shame.
subway closing?
I just heard a rumor that the kosher Subway in New Rochelle is closing or has closed. Does anyone know? It would be a shame, although it was quite pricey.
shabbat in L.A.
thanks for all the responses! I ordered for them from Elite; still shabbat over there, so haven't heard how it was yet!
shabbat in L.A.
My husband and daughter will be in L.A. for a wedding this weekend, but need to fend for themselves for Shabbat. What is the best place to do take-out, assuming that they can't reheat anything in their hotel? Thanks!
Kosher in Rome
We ate in at Yotvata; we went by on Thursday night and paid beforehand. I don't know that they are always open on Shabbat.
I can't remember the names of the meat places; I'll try to get them from my husband and get back to you. They are literally on the same block as Nonna Betta -- if you go there, you can't miss them.
