VA wine country trip this Sunday: winery and lunch suggestions?
I've had dinner at Barboursville. It was worth the trip. I had a great meal there.
Fine Dining / Business Dinner in National Harbor?
I would agree that if you need to be in National Harbor, Old Hickory is really your best option. I was there 2 weeks ago for my birthday dinner and it was a nice meal. They would definitely be able to accommodate a group like yours since it's in a convention/business hotel and they have a lot of separate seating areas, so they could put you in a more private setting.
Fogo de Chao - Brazilian BBQ [moved from DC/Balt]
I go a lot for work dinners and my company pays for it, so I don't feel bad about not eating $50 worth of food.
It's good food, I think the salad bar is nice but I just can't eat enough to justify it if I were going there and paying for it myself.

To get to the recipe, you have to keep clicking through until you get to either the original website it's posted on or you find the link to the recipe posted somewhere with the picture.
Sometimes, people just post the picture without referencing the recipe. I've only hit on that a couple of times so far.
Food Network & Cooking Channel 2012 Season Upfront Announcement
Interesting. Then FN can come out with a line at Kohl's that has fire suits, burn kits and various gas tanks.
Oh the possibilities

LOL@Tripe. Now I'm going to have to do that.
BTW, I love tripe! I haven't had it since I lived in NY.
As for the cake mix recipes, I guess I haven't seen too many of those yet (still on day 2 here). I did find a good number of recipes though, several with quinoa, which I enjoy experimenting with.
Food Network & Cooking Channel 2012 Season Upfront Announcement
Thanks for posting. $24 in 24 is $40 a Day without seating dining.

I just joined this morning for the recipes. I had been reading and seeing posts on message boards to recipes found on Pinterest that I had to go and see what the fuss is all about. I like it, but I can see why people warn that it is another time eater.
New Guidelines for Discussing Food TV Shows
Wow Jacquilynne. Thanks for doing the analysis on that.
I'll put off ordering the log cabin kit for now :D
New Guidelines for Discussing Food TV Shows
Well, if this new guideline works and is enforced, the TC recap threads will have about 5 posts each instead of the 500+ posts for last season.
I don't know what I'll do with all that extra time ;o)
Trisha Yearwood's New Show: Will you watch?
We'll see. The article just says it's shot in Nashville, not that it's shot in her Nashville home.
Most FN shows are shot in staged/rented locations. Paula, Ina and Pioneer Woman are 3 of the few who have kitchens built specifically to shoot their show.
Bobby's Ireland
I think this is a repeat from last year. I remember seeing it and thought it was a nice show. A very different side of BF.
Top Chef Texas -- Reunion
That segment was heavily edited and I don't trust the reaction shots, etc.
Without film or sound, to me, it's just one "production staffer"'s word against hers.
Obviously she was told of this incident at some point and that she directed it at Emeril even though it wasn't said on the show. She wasn't blindsided by the comment on the show, she had heard about it.
With all of the complaining about editing and Magical Elves all during the season, you all really thing what we saw last night was minute-to-minute and real time reactions?
Top Chef Texas -- Reunion
They have a million cameras and they didn't have a camera or sound on this? I find that odd. If this happened during the crowd rush after the winner was announced, there were so many people crushing them and talking, how does anyone know (a) she is the one who said it and (b) that it was said to Emeril?
Trisha Yearwood's New Show: Will you watch?
Poo! It's filmed in Nashville, not her personal kitchen. It sounds like Barefoot Contessa/Pioneer Woman with the themed shows.
Oh well.
==========================================
Music superstar and best-selling cookbook author Trisha Yearwood brings her family-inspired recipes and food traditions to Food Network this spring, with the premiere of the new daytime series Trisha’s Southern Kitchen on Saturday, April 14th at 10:30am ET/PT.
The series invites viewers into the kitchen with Trisha for her favorite meals, nostalgic stories and visits from family and friends. Themed shows range from preparing traditional dishes from her childhood to planning a baby shower and a family reunion barbecue to offering tips on lightening up standard Southern recipes. Shot in Nashville, the six-episode series features Trisha’s unique how-to tips and techniques for down-home dishes like Daddy’s Barbecued Chicken, Uncle Wilson’s Famous Baked Onions, Chick-less Pot Pie and Sweet and Saltines.
“Trisha’s best known as a music legend, but her talents don’t stop there. She’s a passionate and talented cook, whose down-to-earth style, winning recipes, and southern hospitality will charm and inspire viewers,” said Bob Tuschman, General Manager and Senior Vice President Programming, Food Network.
“For me, cooking is very connected to my family and friends,” said Yearwood. “Every recipe on the show carries wonderful memories with my loved ones and I can’t wait to share my meals, stories and family photos with Food Network viewers.”
Trisha Yearwood, who has won three Grammy Awards®, two Academy of Country Music Awards, three Country Music Association honors and had 19 top-ten singles, released her first best-selling cookbook “Georgia Cooking in an Oklahoma Kitchen” (Clarkson Potter) in 2008. Her second book “Cooking for Family and Friends (Clarkson Potter) followed in 2010. Both books reached the #1 position on the New York Times best-seller list in the Advice, How-To and Miscellaneous category.
Participants on Food Media and News: Your Input Please
This issue also came up on The Chew thread and it got incredibly nasty directed at both the posters and the personalities on the show. I reported it but it seems most of the disturbing posts are still there.
Top Chef Texas - Ep. #14 - 02/08/12 (Spoilers)
Just talking about bringing people back IN GENERAL.
I hate it.
/sorry I said anything (as usual)
Top Chef Texas - Ep. #14 - 02/08/12 (Spoilers)
I was referring to other shows where people are brought back to compete again because someone has to leave for a funeral or some non-show elimination (ie "technicality") not that this show was bringing back people on a technicality. I was referring to my distaste for bringing people back, once eliminated, on any show, for any reason.
I hate it.
Where to buy magret de canard/ moulard duck breast in DC/ NoVA?
You can also call Wegmans and ask them to order it for you. I have ordered all kinds of stuff from their meat department. A lot of times they just don't carry it in a particular store as there isn't interest. But many times, since I'm from NY, they do carry these things in their NY store and can get it to VA for me.
do the shows that highlight great local places lie?
I bought Rachel Ray's $40 a Day book that was an accompaniment to the show. The book had a lot of "facts" about the places she visited, accommodations that were made and changes that were made or things that were only "seasonal." I went to several places she visited in that show over the years and I wasn't disappointed with any of them. But several places indicated that what was on the show wasn't exactly what was served.
Seeking Tea Kettle
I use a thermometer in a pyrex cup, too. I thought I was being too nerdy.
Top Chef Texas - Ep. #14 - 02/08/12 (Spoilers)
I'm with Ed on this. This is my pet peeve with ALL reality shows. Once you are gone you should be gone. This "last chance" and "getting back in on a technicality" all irritate me to no end. I was done with Next Food Network Star with that whole season with that Amy Finley person and wanting to quit and people leaving and coming back. She wins, her husband hates that she's won, she gives up her show and takes an opportunity away from someone who was (a) 1000x better than she was and (b) wanted it 1,000,000x more than she did.

Bologna Biscuit, is this some kind of Salem VA delicacy?
I was in Salem, VA this weekend and didn't see it. Had I seen this thread ahead of time I would have tried it just for the experience.
I'm a big Taylor Ham fan. I am from LI but my mother is from Jersey. They sell it in the DC area at all grocery stores. I pick it up sometimes.
Trisha Yearwood's New Show: Will you watch?
I'll watch.
I've always liked her and her cookbook looked good but just not my style of cooking.
Plus if they film at her house, bonus! I'm sure she has the ultimate kitchen :D
What is your single worst meal ever in the DC/Baltimore area?
I was in Leesburg yesterday and remembered a horrific meal that I subjected myself to TWICE without realizing it. It was about 15 years apart.
I don't even know if it's still in business, I think it was called The Green Tree. Just bad, tasteless slop.
I remember the second time I went in there with a group for some event. As soon as I walked in I remembered having been there before. I ended up having iced tea and salad and left. Just walking by the food was enough.
Kolache - can you buy the good stuff in the DC Area?
That sounds great, too. Thanks.
Now, where can I find a Baba ;o)
Kolache - can you buy the good stuff in the DC Area?
Thank you both.
I LOVE Ellicott City. Now I have a reason to go again :D
Top Chef Texas - Ep. #12 - 01/25/12 (Spoilers)
Just marking my spot.
I have nothing to say other than I only watch the show now so that I can follow LCK. ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
And, thanks for the recaps, Linda ;o)
