Soft Shell Crab: Has anyone had any good ones yet?

Guessing this was the Culver City one? That's definitely on my short list.

Soft Shell Crab: Has anyone had any good ones yet?

I'm looking for a restaurant with fresh seasonal soft shell crab. Any prep style is fine. Doesn't have to be Water Grill (though I do like WG), just somewhere that does great soft shells. Looking to eat them tomorrow night or Saturday. Anywhere between Downtown, Hollywood, WeHo to the Beaches. Thanks!

Really good Italian in the Valley?

It's no Osteria Mozza, Il Grano or Valentino, but Il Tiramisu in Sherman Oaks is nice, friendly and reasonably priced. They will work with you if you want to do a prix-fixe menu for a larger group btw.

Seeking Best Baguette au Jambon in LA

Is that Tavern in Brentwood?

Seeking Best Baguette au Jambon in LA

Trying to prove to a friend that LA is a great food town. She loves the authentic baguette au jambon is Paris. I guess it's a cold sandwich with fresh ham, cheese and nicely baked bread. I've never had one. It sounds good ...

Thank you!!!

Need Restaurant Recommendation

Without an existing rez at Bazaar, you can rule that out. There is a first come bar, but it sounds like you have a party of four or more.

AOC I've never been blown away by. It's a great wine bar, the food is secondary.

I'd third Church & State, even though I've not been. Enough trusted sources have had great reports.

I had an amazing meal at Ludobites last weekend. You can BYO wine (you actually HAVE to BYO, rather b/c the home of Ludobites has no wine license). He's a former L'Orangerie and Bastide chef. The menu changes nightly. If the chorizo and pear is on the menu, you are in for a treat. Not every dish hits the mark exactly, but he's doing great work.

There's also Bashan in Montrose. A bit off the beaten path, but some truly outstanding food.

Best onion rings in LA...who's got them?

It depends what you like: beer batter vs. bread battered? thin "strings" vs. rings? For my money , I loved the ones at the Yard House. They are served on what looks like a paper towl tower rack. Golden brown rings of deliciosity! I tried them at the one at LA Live. I assume they are the same at all locations. These are beer battered and dusted with Parmesan. I like both bread and beer batter. I don't care for strings at all ... These were a fantastic, served with a spicy ranch dipping sauce (I also disdain ketchup!)

LA area cheese shop: Best bang for buck?

I am in the uneviable position of providing cheese and charcuterie for a group of 14 people at the Hollywood Bowl July 4. I want to get a nice selection (may 4 cheeses and two types of charcuterie). There will be other food at the pot luck, so I don't need giant portions, but I don't want to skimp either. My questions:

1. Cheese Shop of BH vs. Cheese Shop of Silver Lake vs. Say Cheese vs. Andrew's vs. Artisan Cheese Gallery?: Where is the best overall value? Or is there an alternate? I'm driving from the South Bay to Studio City anyway, so I'm happy to stop somewhere in between.

2. How many ounces per person should I allot for? Again, there will be many other side dishes.

Thank you.

Which are the better Sushi Bars in Jtown?

i've never done omakase at r23, but freinds have told me it's great. the tableside sushi i've had there has been consistently great. go 55 i had a really good meal at, but was shocked by the bill. $80 pp. I thought it was supposed to be a bargain place. i've heard great things about gen.

NoHo Thai quandry: Bua Siam, Sri Siam or Swan

Taking my friend out for her birthday tonight and have narrowed it down to these three. Never been to any of them. We like really authentic spicy Thai, like Jitlada and Renu Nekron. Thank you very much!!!

Need Birthday Reco - Mozza, Comme Ca, or Animal?

Animal. Loved it. Comme Ca too loud for your requirement and infamous for waits even with rezzies, plus bar is open for food service, so it's not like you can just have a nice drink while waiting, tho drinks are good. mozza has moved to my overrated list due to a bad service experience and so-so food one night. next time i go back, i'll sit at mozzarella bar where nancy is, rather than deal with the waitstaff. drinks are good there, too. but animal really did it for me. and the prices aren't bad. i loved the melted cheese and charcuterie, the ribs and the steak. skip the bacon choco dessert. well, maybe try it once just for the experience, but the seasonal fruit looked better IMO. good luck!
