Also, Lassi for take out and delivery and Kefi and Almond!

Your favorite recession-friendly restaurant

I agree with Darth...$50/person w/out drinks is pretty easy. Pearl Oyster Bar and Chinatown Brasserie would be my picks. At Pearl you can have a glass of wine each, if you want for that kind of money. They have kept the prices pretty reasonable all of these years.

Fresh Lobster meat at $80 pound!

Good lord! You could have gotten 2 huge, overflowing lobster rolls (with at least 3/4 lb. of meat each), plus salad and shoestring fries to go from Pearl Oyster Bar for about $48!

Seafood girlfriend birthday dinner...

I think that you'll find Tides has either closed or changed their food focus. I just read something recently about it and when I checked the website there was no menu, etc. By the way, never was very good...I'd go to Blue Ribbon for their great raw bar and other assorted seafood pleasures.

Birthday dinner with parents - I'm stumped!

August! I don't think Perilla for the 'rents, though I like it there.

New York Food & Wine Festival

That whole weekend was SUCH a back slapping self congratulatory cluster you-know- what. It was heinous. Conversely, the Gourmet Institute last week was amazing; it was the real thing.

Which Max Brenner is Better?

NEITHER! The place is HIDEOUS and the chocolate is awful.

Seafood restaurant suggestion needed!

Well, I think Bond Street is totally underrated for sushi and other Japanese. I love their crispy spicy shrimp, shortribs, spicy tuna rolls, the lobster tempura rolls and all of their sushi is superb. If you want something like Lure (which I love) they also own Chinatown Brasserie which is very fun and delicious Chinese. They make a great Peking Duck, a terrific cocktail and have a good happy hour. They also have some of the best Chinese spare ribs in the city, although I like the roast pork even better. Must have: Bao for dessert, this crazy little bun filled with custard. Steer very clear of that hideous Aquagrill. Ugh! If you want seafood, Pearl Oyster Bar is still the best of the best. Their quality never ceases to amaze me. The knock offs are pale imitations. This time of year it's pretty easy to get seated with minimal waiting. Someone else asked about crabcakes today and I posted about those. But my first choices would be mussels in cream sauce, fried oysters, their incredible Caesar salad and a crispy, sweet-fleshed, herb-scented whole fish. But you can have the lobster roll..if you must! Also, if they happen to have skate on the menu, you must try it! Then, of course, a butterscotch praline parfait, although last night we had a blackberry-pear crumble pie that was possibly the best pie I've ever had.

NYC best Crab cakes....

I'd have to go with Pearl Oyster Bar's. They have a crispy, buttery crust and are soft and filled with lump crab meat on the inside; big chunks of it you can actually see. It's served with a slaw and the best (and most imitated) tartar sauce in the city. I also had some good ones at Blue Ribbon downtown, a long time ago.
