carpe diem - new canaan

Completely different experience. The place was nearly to capacity last night (a tuesday). The food did not dissapoint. The crispy artichoke was excellent and flavorful. The carpaccio with hearts of palm and avocado was delicious. For entrees, the penne with sweet and hot italian sausage was very good as was the pasta with prosciutto. We will definitely come back and it is a great addition to the dining scene.

Rehearsal Dinner site in New Canaan/Norwalk area

I second Roger Sherman. Good bar area and very good food the last couple of years. Pasta Nostra in SoNo is great if you like italian and you can rent out the entire place. They do a great job.

Visiting Stamford for a week — where to go?

for italian, you can't miss Pasta Nostra. The baked clams are great, as are the homemade pastas. if they are in season, the nantucket bay scallop appetizer is fantastic. don't miss it.

Why Are There No Great Restaurants In Fairfield County?

The Schoolhouse periodically has tasting menus. Over the years I have dined at some of the best places in NYC and frankly around the country. The Schoolhouse is no Per Se nor does it pretend to be, but it continually serves great food with seasonal ingredients and the menu changes daily.
Frankly, I would rather eat there than at many of the michelin star rated places because for the most part, they are too impersonal and often over rated (Per Se, Le Bernadin, Daniel, Babbo exempted from that comment).

I am also excited by Elm's arrival and the Tuscan is a nice addition to the scene (ate there last saturday). I like that the bar for quality restaurants continues to be set higher.

The Tuscan New Canaan - has anyone been?

Had dinner there on Saturday. Food was terrific. Started with fresh mozzarella with olives and cherrys. very tasty. my wife had a lobster salad which she loved. For entree, I had the pork belly with pumpkin puree which was excellent and the mrs had the short ribs, very good and tender.
The menu changes daily which is nice. The restaurant was packed with a vibrant bar scene and everyone having a good time. Service was good, not great. They have a nice list of wines which are priced decently. The overall price of dinner was not too bad.
We have also used the butcher shop out front several times and found the meat to be excellent and the prepared foods to be quite good (the lemon chicken and lasagna are pretty good).

Tuscany butcher shop/Restaurant New Canaan. Anyone tried either of these?

we have used the butcher shop a few times. we bought a flank steak over the weekend which was great. We also bot a prepared lasagna for the house which was very nice (good sauce and cheese). their twice baked potatoes are very good and they also have some nice cheeses. they are very friendly and fill a much needed void in town. we are going to have dinner there in a couple of weeks. i'll report back then.

Gelato

and Gelatissimo in New Canaan is second to none.

Fairfield County Food

I'm a fan of the Schoolhouse and Swanky Franks myself. Bonne Nuit in New Canaan for French food.

Healthy/good food options near Ludlow, VT?

Harry's is OK with little kids. They have high chairs and a great mac and cheese that mine just gobbled up. The noise level is pretty high that you don't have to stress if the kids are being a bit loud.
My favorite dishes there are soup/apps however. the corn chowder w/shrimp is too die for and my one can't miss item there

breakfast near Ludlow?

Over Easy's in Cuttingsville is a pretty good breakfast place. Take 103N for about 10 minutes. It's on the left hand side.

NYTimes Reviews Farmer's Table in New Canaan

i'm glad the place is doing well. it meets a nice spot on the restaurant scene in New Canaan. Lot of turnover in town, with Aloi and Taste of Asia closing their doors and a new Italian opening soon along with the already planned restaurant for the Taste of Asia spot. Lots of competition, but the quality places will continue to do well.

Fairway (Stamford CT) Four Months Later - Thoughts?

Like their salmon bar, fresh cream cheese, store made tortilla chips, kosher chicken breast, and french bread. other than that, the store is too nutty.

Aloi in New Canaan Closes

it's really too bad because the location is very nice and the space is good for a smaller restaurant. and it's nice to dine outside there when the weather is nice. I'll miss Aloi at it's best. no need for restaurants that are not putting in the effort. taking my money to bonne nuit tonight.

Aloi in New Canaan Closes

I agree. definitely some of the best pastas around. i will say that the times we ate there over the last year, they had very few other customers. also, aside from the specials, they never change the menu.
and as their parting shot their comment about limiting the number of restaurants in new canaan is ludicrous. there is plenty of money to support plenty of dining establishments in town. you just have to deliver good food and service and be competitive. Aloi lost its way somewhere and people stopped going.

New Canaan area restaurant for small anniversary party

i have eaten at roger sherman a couple of times since the new owners took over and have been very pleased with the results. service is good and the new and improved menu is vastly improved. i think it would be a very nice place for a party as well and they let you design your own menu for a private party.

Bistro Bonne Nuit (New Canaan) - Still Outstanding

We are big fans on Bonne Nuit as well. Their chicken w/frites is one of my favorites. Crispy, juicy, delicious. Their staff is friendly and does a good job. We usually get one of the tables by the windows, so we've never really been that cramped.

Western Fairfield County CT - Anyone Home; Where are the posters

i like to eat burgers more than talk about them. I agree though. been a tad boring of late.
lots of new stuff going on in New Canaan. New Italian going in on Main Street along with a butcher shop. Story is on http://newcanaan.patch.com/articles/empty-store-fronts-and-empty-stomachs-fill-up

Darien CT update/Scena & rumors..

what's interesting is that she just expanded the Stamford location. We have been big fans of her for several years and eat there periodically. If I have one critisism is wine offerings. there should be more lebanese options in wine and beer as well as some others from the region. the domestic bottles are pretty average fare at the usual mark ups. I hope she does well in Darien and will visit that location

Rebeccas - Greenwich

I believe in was one of the specials for the night.

Rebeccas - Greenwich

I know there has been much debate over Rebeccas in the past. I had dinner there last night and wanted to report that it was delicious. For apps, i had the ceviche on nantucket bay scallops which was great while my wife started with a sweetbreads on a salad app, fantastic. for entrees, i had the braised short ribs which were very tasty, delicate, and tender. My wife had the elk with a side of white truffle noodles, both incredibly well prepared and rich and tasty.
Sorry I don't have a more detailed description, but we really had a very enjoyable night, with great food and good service. It was our first time there and we will definitely be back.

Sonic's first day in ct. July 14

I lived in SF for about 5yrs, but i grew up in Maryland and have been in CT for about 7 years. I think everyone has their soft spot for a particular indulgence. In&Out is mine, but it could be more nostalgia than anything.
Bob's Big Boy certainly brings back memories, don't remember the food, but certainly hanging out there when i had just gotten my drivers license.

Sonic's first day in ct. July 14

sonic is not nearly as good as In and Out. It still reigns supreme in my book.

Farmer's Table New Canaan, CT?

Had a nice dinner on friday night at Farmer's Table... we started with a nice cheeseplate accompanied by homemade bread and honey. very nice and very simple. then I had the pork tacos which were quite savory. my wife asked if they would make her shrimp tacos and they did, which was very nice of them since it was not on the menu. they were good, although not as tasty as mine were. they also made a good chicken quesadilla for my daughter. all in all, a pleasant evening.
when we got there there was only one other table. by the time we left, the restaurant was packed. the kitchen is a little slow, but that is my only gripe. i wish they could sell beer. would have gone nicely with my pork taco.
oh... the butternut squash soup was also quite good. nice addition and seems to be coming along nicely.

Jfood visits Ten Twenty (Darien) - Solid Start

i find it better to sit at the nice bar, have a couple of drinks and share an app. i've had mixed results the two or three times i've actually dined there and would not go back. it's too bad, because the space is nice and could be a really good restaurant with the right person in the kitchen and the right person managing the wait staff.

Melting Pot, Darien, CT

we've gone several times because it is one of my 6yr olds favorites. the cheese course is pretty good and the chocolate is very good. the actual food is only ok and the place gets expensive quick. that said, it is a fun night with the right people and as long as you don't take it too seriously.
