Chili Dogs

WITCH!!!! WITCH!!! Kidding, you can certainly do worse than Sonic for a chili dog. I prefer to make my own most of the time though. Nathan's dog with Wolf chili (not the "hot dog sauce", WTF is that????) and fresh shredded cheddar, yum...

Need opinions on 4-day BBQ-plus plan

Skip Louis Mueller, it's crap... Seriously, the place gets a 10 on atmosphere and smell, but a 4 at best on the Q.... no flavor. If you're going to Taylor the only place worth your $$ is Davis Grocery.

If you're going to be in Round Rock, check out Johnny T's on 620.

Otherwise, I see no gripes with your plan.

Blue Oak Grill - How to Avoid an RIP for a place that doesn't deserve it?

I ate there a few weeks ago, it was just OK at best. The "corncake" rocks, totally loved that. CFS was OK, nothing special. "Mashed Red Potatoes" came out of a box, no red to be seen.... Table could use a good scrubbing, kind of greasy with lots of glass rings. The service was good though, that helps a lot.

Red Wine and BBQ [moved from Austin board]

Hmm.... might give that a try. Being allergic to hops, I don't have beer with BBQ either. Usually a soda or root beer. Heck, I never though peperoni pizza and ranch dressing would be good...

Hard Hat Report Vol 8

re: Firestone.
Oh great, that's just what we need.....

Where do you buy your steaks (uncooked)?

Wow, no one else is buying their meat at Lee's Meat Market???

Expensive, but really god meat every time. I haven't tried anywhere else, I see no reason to.

Fonda San Miguel

Probably too late, but it might help someone else... Yes, Snow's in Lexington if it's a Saturday..... morning. If you're in Taylor go to Davis Grocery, it's the only Q in Taylor worth eating.

Best BBQ between here and Killeen?

Davis Grocery is simply the best BBQ that you can buy in Taylor, period. Louie Mueller is crap, completely flavorless. Vencil (Taylor Cafe) has the nastiest sauce I've ever had, like spaghetti sauce that didn't turn out right. West End? Nah, pass on that.

Dessert in The Domain?

Going to dinner in the area Friday evening, looking for suggestions on where to go for dessert in The Domain. No particular type of dessert in mind... could be as simple as good pie to something more complex.

Thanks!

Dry-aged Grass-Fed Beef

I've never asked about the aging or source, but I will vouch for the prime meat at Lee's Meat Market down by 38th and Jefferson.

R I P part II

Red Robin on 183 @ Anderson Mill, closed for good!

Best BBQ?

I gotta agree with PDM on this one. Snow's in Lexington & City Market in Lulling are the best there is. And that's not just one opinion, it's a fact. They don't have just one thing they do really great, ALL of it is good. Lockhart has some good stuff, but it's worth the extra few miles to go to Lulling.

Rudy's takes a lot of crap for being a chain, but it's definitely better than average. I use it as my personal benchmark. Is it better than Rudy's? Is it enough better to make the trip to where ever it is?

I ate at Texas Monthly’s Top 5 BBQ Pits in One Weekend.

I haven't been to all of those places yet, but I've been to Snow's, City Market, and Louie Mueller's. I have to agree that City Market probably just edges out Snow's, but both are fantastic. I went to Louie Mueller's last weekend and found it to be pretty disappointing.. atmosphere is a 10 for sure, BBQ (pork ribs, sausage, brisket) was maybe a 6. Too much black pepper and not enough flavor.

~Cedar Park - Good Greasy Burger?

I live near 183 & 620, looking for a good greasy cheeseburger type joint. Example of places I like are Fuddruckers, Burger Tex, Mightly Fine was OK.

Thanks!

Austin - looking for great texmex

+1 with a bullet!

Elgin BBQ trip: Southside or Meyer's?

HA! Well, I guess I have to applaud his , ummm, commitment to making BBQ!! Regardless of his past history of poor judgment, the Q was still pretty good.

Elgin BBQ trip: Southside or Meyer's?

Just thought I'd add to this post since I went Elgin in search of Crosstown BBQ, it isn't there anymore. The spot has been replaced by Richard's Back Porch BBQ, and it was pretty good. We got there late in the day and the BBQ was still fresh and tasty, however we missed out on the pork ribs. I've never been to Meyer's or Southside Market, but they would have a hard time beating Richard's BBQ.

Austin Burger Smackdown!

Hut's is pretty good, only been there once though..

I vote for Fran's as best grease burger. Top Notch is a good burger, I'm also very fond of Burger Tex at 183 & 35... very close to work and a very nice burger.

Hard Hat Report Volume 2

I've been wondering the same thing, I drive past it in the mornings and see the neon lights are on. I just haven't managed to make it back by during lunch or later in the days... I always found them to be tasty and what I'd consider above average Tex-Mex. Not the best, but better than many.

Visiting Austin next week

Consider Hoover's Cooking for some pretty darned good Southern comfort food, and then some. I usually end up with fried pork chops since there aren't very many places that serve them.. however I've had the CFS on a few occasions and it's pretty good too.

The Salt Lick was pretty good BBQ, I liked the sausage the most. But, I think it's tough to beat City Market in Luling.

Best Brisket: black's?

I've been to both Black's and City Market, both are excellent choices with a nod to City Market. Haven't been to Snow's yet, maybe this Saturday or next.

Please help critique my upcoming Aus itinerary

+1 for City Market, the best all around BBQ I've ever had... and I've had a lot. I think a trip out to Snow's is on my plate for next weekend maybe, rumor has it that it's better than City Market.

RIP - Mama Ninfa's at 35 & 183

Sorry to see you go, I guess I should have come to see you more often! :-(
