Little Rock Recs

ok, went to Brave New Restaurant again last night. the app special was wild mushrooms in Marsala wine reduction over local wild rice. to. die. for. over a pound of Maitake, shitake, oysters, chanterelles and some i'd never even seen. i was stuffed before our salads got there. (there is also a wild mushroom tart on the regular app menu, very good BTW). Peter Brave is a very generous chef, is ALWAYS at the helm of his open kitchen and checks on tables regularly. EAT THE VEAL. it's incredible.

Little Rock Recs

fantastic china is solid and typical but not special. flying fish (try the fried shrimp and oysters) in the rivermarket for lunch, get there early. Brave New for sure! Doe's for steak, tamales and shrimp. Whole Hog Cafe on Cantrell for the best bbq anywhere IMO.

Arkansas Delta Region

I live in Little Rock and am from Magnolia. Whole Hog rules the earth. Their franchises are even good. I hope Mr. Blasingame takes over the planet.

I work a block away from Cotham's in the City. Not as good as the one in Scott, but Hubcap burgers for sure.

I've known David from Backyard since I was born. I eat there EVERY time I go home. His ribs are my favorite and if you ever need a whole smoked ham on the bone (Thanksgiving & Christmas, you have to reserve one), his are the best I've ever had. Smoked turkey with Jezebell sauce! FRIED BROCCOLI!! ok, i'm going to lunch now...I don't get down to Star City much, but I'll try the Village next time I do. Thanks!

for BBQ, stop at Shadden's in Marvell, Arkansas. (a few miles West of Helena on HWY 49)

do not be afraid. trust. Craig's BBQ in DeVall's Bluff is good, also.

also, I've heard good things about Morgan Freeman's place over in Clarksdale, Mississippi, not too far down the road:

Wedding cakes in N.O.??

best macaroonish canoli doohickeys ever. what a shame.

Natchitoches, LA (Meat Pies, etc.)

I know this isn't really NOLA area, but it's as close as I can get on this blog. Not much for MidSouthern fare on here. I'm headed into Many & Natchitoches, LA this weekend...Lord a willin' and the hurricane ain't blowin'...any suggestions on good eats? or hurricane parties for that matter?

Little Rock - Larry's Pizza

edible. their chicken fajita pizza isn't bad. try Pizza Cafe, Damgoode Pies or US Pizza.
