Desperate for suggestions - First wedding anniversary somewhat near Madison, CT.
Def agree on Bee & Thistle, very romantic atmosphere.
Chinese Mirch - Stamford
I don't think there is a lunch menu and for takeout, it is the regular menu that's listed online. I did takeout there this weekend--make sure you check the bag because I didn't get any utensils!
I had the Chicken Hot Garlic and like 203Katie, I didn't find it to be very hot, certainly not worth 3 out of 3 stars. The dish was a la carte and in a takeout container came as small pieces of chicken swimming in the sauce--the price was a bit high for the portion that I got. They also included a baggie of fried noodles and 3 containers of sauce--red chili paste, soy sauce and a clear liquid (didn't try this one). Overall, I was disappointed by the experience and if I was to go back, I would try a noodle or rice dish instead.
Something quick and easy to grab for lunch in Stamford?
Had El Charrito for lunch--so good & prices were great. Very friendly people, too. Looking forward to trying other recs soon! Thanks Jfood and cardiak for this one!
Something quick and easy to grab for lunch in Stamford?
I am working in Stamford on the weekends and am not familiar with the area. I need something quick to grab because I work on an ambulance and don't typically have a lot of time to sit and eat. I've decided I have got to try Colony for dinner, but what to have for lunch? Thanks for your suggestions!

Thanks for all the suggestions--I ended up getting Hamilton Beach Set n Forget....I love it! The "keep warm" setting is such a big help since I never know what time I'll be home from work!
lunch in wallingford
I'd suggest Archie Moore's.....good burgers, great wings. Also across the street is Half Moon Cafe which has good salads, wraps, paninis and a huge selection of tea and coffee. If you're in the mood for Mexican, Los Mariachis or Taquiera Mexico, both on Rt. 5, are excellent choices.
Enjoy!

2 Days, 1 Night in Newport - Recommendations for Lunch & Dinner?
I agree on the Red Parrot--I am about your age and we really enjoyed it when we were there for lunch.
Top 10 - Western & Eastern FFD County
Sorry, SIHC, Bosc Kitchen is now closed according to Channel 3.
M.J Dukes Famous Philly Style Cheesesteaks Opens First Location Wallingford Conn.Route 5
I wish I could compare it to a real "philly", but unfortunately I cannot.
The bread was good and the filling was very tasty--we had an original with grilled onions and cheese whiz and a chicken philly with grilled onion and american cheese. That being said, it was a pretty wimpy sandwich. For $6.95 for a 9", I guess we expected more meat on it. If your'e in the area, I wouldn't hesitate to tell you to try it--nice to see that a good portion of things are made in house and your sandwiches are made to order right in front of you, the place was clean and the staff was friendly. I hope they survive--it is nice to see something different on the chain-heavy Rt. 5.

I have an older crockpot and I am looking into getting a programmable one--anyone have a suggestion for a good one?
Belgique Patisserie, Kent, CT
C-Hounders, I am shocked to find nothing on this board about this gem (if I missed it in my search, my apologies).
If you love chocolate (and who doesn't?!), you need to go here immediately. For the men on the board, this would be an excellent place to get sweets for your sweetie since a certain commercial holiday is upon us. Took a drive through the lovely Litchfield Hills out here and was not disappointed at all. First, you must order the hot chocolate--hands down, best one I've ever had. Its rich and velvety with a generous dollop of fresh whipped cream atop. Next--the chocolate. They have quite the array of chocolates you can buy by the piece (or pound) but be prepared--it is expensive. They also have croissants, mousse, belgian fruit candies and other delectable delights. My husband and I were like kids in a candy store :) If the drive is daunting, make a day trip out of it by stopping at Kent Falls--beautiful even this time of the year.
On20/Polytechnic (Hartford) opening for dinner

Rehearsal dinner location Central CT for 30?
My friend had her rehearsal dinner at the New Mill in Southington. The food was very good and service was good as well. There was also about 30 people in the party and it went over very well, no complaints from anyone.
Salute' - Milford, CT (formerly Bennigan's location)
Currently, you can find gift certificates at restaurantsct.com for Salute for half price.
'Thai Food Express'...Wallingford, CT
We tried here this weekend--overall, it was very good takeout at very reasonable prices. We had the shumai for an appetizer--little purses of chicken and shrimp with a dipping sauce. For our lunches, we had the drunken noodles, which was pleasantly spicy without it being overkill and the Pad See Ew, which was basically just like the drunken noodles, without the heat. Great size portions for $6.95 each. Be aware--cash only here. Since we live a stone's throw away, we look forward to enjoying takeout here more often.
By the way, noreservations--we got 2 small containers with some sort of opaque mixture that had corn and beans in it--any idea what it could have been? Did you get these also?
Good Girls Night Out Restaurant in CT
For hibachi, I would also suggest Saki Mura in Meriden.....my girlfriends took me there for my bachelorette and it was fantastic....gotta get a scorpion bowl!
Good luck!
When you first started cooking away from home, what were some of your disasters?
My first attempt at making my own salsa--fresh beefsteak tomatoes, onion, jalapeno and a huge handful of fresh cilantro all in the blender. I didn't realize how strong cilantro was until the entire mixture in the blender turned a light shade of green and when I pulled the top off--yuck! The smell just permeated the apartment. I ran the blender right outside and dumped the mixture in the grass. I have since learned my lesson :)

I snagged one of the Mill at 2t ones when they offered it.....that place is divine, I feel the same way you do, I'm sure. I just loved sitting at the "bar" chatting with the chefs all night. That deal was the only reason I was able to dine there--it is expensive but so good.
Glad I was able to help. 'Tis the season :)

Looks like the last Krispy Kreme in Milford CT is going!
I would go early to get the best selection, but I've been known to roll out of bed and get there around 930 and still have a decent selection to choose from. He also has lovely baked goods.
Asado, Southington CT--anyone been yet?
Heard this place just opened recently. Not much news on it, anyone been yet?
the Mill at 2T, Tariffville, Ct.
We had the pleasure of dining here Saturday night and it was an amazing experience, start to finish. I would definitely suggest sitting at the "bar" adjacent to the kitchen--it was a nice experience getting to chat with Chef Ryan during the course of our dinner. Scallops for a starter and Wild Boar Tenderloin for SO and I enjoyed a local greens salad for a starter and Pork Osso Buco for entree. Best part? The Chocolate Pot de Creme for dessert--rich and heavenly. We would definitely go back.
Ted's Montana Grill... actually quite good
There's also one in South Windsor, CT. I have no complaints about it--my bison burger last time was cooked perfectly.
