Another Broken Egg is a good breakfast place, but pricey. When we take our kids out with us (6 yrs and 16 mos) we tend to go to pizza places or places with a salad bar or games so it's basically Beef O'Bradys, Sonnys, Red Elephant and Barnaby's. We take them to the nicer places too, but find it a bit more stressful since there's nothing to occupy them. Also, Azu has a huge, tasty bento box for kids that is a great buy and fun for them to eat!

We tried One oh One for one of our rare date nights last weekend because I had a coupon for it. Like good food, but love a good deal! We had the fish dip appetizer, I had the chicken with goats cheese and he had the cowboy steak. All the food was good and it was a nice night out with reasonable prices for that sort of thing. Nothing amazing, but pretty good.

I stopped into La Lanterna on Capital Circle yesterday since it's been recommended here a few times and really enjoyed it. I wasn't sure what to expect and was a little surprised by how small it was. I always get a little nervous when I feel like I'm in the spotlight while I'm trying to order food. The folks working there were very nice though and it was a pleasant atmosphere. I got a sicilian orange, 3 small eggplant rollatini and a soda for just over $10. I thought that was a little pricey, but of course you're always going to pay more for good, homemade food. Both items were really delicious and I especially enjoyed the Sicilian orange. I had seen them on tv before and was interested to try them, but sadly it was nowhere near as orange as it was on the screen.

Just saw a new indian restaurant where the italian restaurant used to be beside Food Glorious Food. Anyone know anything about it?

Where is the best no frills Seafood in all of Florida?

Oops, I got that wrong. It wasn't Boss Oyster, it was the little shack down the street where you go upstairs and eat out on the porch over the water. Really delicious!

Absolutely agree! Boss oyster is certainly no frills, but I went there 3 months ago and I'm still craving it almost daily! I can't get those shrimp out of my head!

I've never been a big fan of Hunts, but I do recommend Cato's which is a just a little seafood market on Hwy 231 right before you get into town. Basically point to the stuff in the case and they'll cook it up for you and you can sit at one of the handful of tables they have inside or a picnic table outside. I'm headed back over this weekend and also very worried about how all these little places are going to fare.

The scoop on Cuban food in Tampa/Sarasota- La Terasita

I lived in Tampa a decade ago (yikes!) and used to love getting takeout from Espo's near Busch Gardens. Any chance that it's still around? We'll be there for a week in July and I feel I must get some good cuban and greek food before heading back to Tally.

I agree. I absolutely love it there and have had a fantastic waiter both times that I've gone. I only live around the corner so I would go all the time if it was a little more affordable, but I didn't know about this appetizer and snacks menu. Maybe I'll check that out.

I'm very worried about what's going to happen to our seafood industry now so I'll do anything I can to support places like this and I hope everyone else does as well.

I see that Panda Express is opening on Thomasville. I know it's a chain, but is there any chance that it's better than the other Chinese places in town?

I know it's a bit out of the way from here, but we're planning on renting a place down on St. George Island for our anniversary in a couple of weeks and I wasn't sure if there would be any restaurants worth visiting in that area.

They've moved up to the strip across from Costco and Wal-mart on Mahan. We went there a couple of weeks ago and loved it. The waiter was really fantastic and very excited about the freshness of all the food. My husband and I both got oysters (he - steamed, me - raw). Mine also came with ceviche. He had the grilled grouper and I had the etouffee with fried green tomatoes. All items were really fantastic and fresh. Will definitely be going back.

I went to Kiku a couple of weeks ago and was very disappointed. It took over 45 minutes to get our bento box lunches and then some of the food was not all that great. They did credit us like 10% after we asked so I at least have to give them that. Sushi was ok, nothing special and the chicken katsu had jalapenos on it!!! That is just bizarre and alarming. we had to ask for all the sauces (teriyaki and katsu) and I never got any more water. I'll definitely stick with Sakura.

and honestly I just don't know of many restaurants around here that actually do serve local food, whether it is meat, seafood or produce. Would love to see it done more, but I think that's probably a ways off for this region.

My husband and I tried Carl's on the Parkway last weekend which is the restaurant that has taken the place of Nino's. I still think it's just too far out, but I hate driving much further than a few minutes anyway. The interior is much lighter and fresher without those old window treatments and musty smells that it had before. We tried the Twilight special which is 2 drinks, 1 app, 2 salad/soup, 2 entrees and 1 dessert for $30 before 6:30. The bruschetta app was ok, but nothing that I can't make taste better which just a can of rotel. My husband enjoyed his soup, but my salad was icy cold. The entrees were actually quite good - I had the pork loin in bacon and he had the sirloin. The dessert was fried cheesecake that tasted like it had been in the freezer too long and took more than 30 minutes to arrive. Overall, I think the entrees were good, the price is right if you go early, and it was pretty decent experience overall, but some of the food could use a little work and it definitely could be a little faster (over 2 hours for 2 people).

Tallahassee Thanksgiving

I'm due to give birth thanksgiving weekend so we're just planning on doing some kind of take home meal for it. I had Publix's last year at our company party and it was very disappointing. Any suggestions for a reasonably priced take home Thanksgiving meal that tastes decent? Not looking for anything fancy here, just regular Thanksgiving fare that's already cooked so I just have to heat it up (or not which would be even better!).

I tried the wharf express on Mahan for lunch yesterday because I've been craving some fried seafood. I got my order for takeout so I can't make any comments on the inside service, but they were very friendly at the register. I got the fried shrimp entree with cheese grits and coleslaw with a coconut buttercreme cupcake. I don't always eat like this, but at 8 months pregnant I can get away with a lot more than usual. I think if you're not pregnant it's a generous portion of everything. It was all fresh and really tasty and very homemade tasting. I highly recommend it for good old southern seafood.

Has anyone tried the Bethel Soul Food place on Tennessee? I know it's not very "foodie" of me, but as a Southerner, I can't get enough of that food! I wonder if it's got a take out option or is it eat in?

need Tallahassee advice in a hurry (please help)

What about Japanese? Kitcho should work for everyone and they have things that kids would like (i.e. fried food). How about that place that took the place of Rubie Sky? I've never been to either of them, but it's an idea.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. We had a great time out there last week, but unfortunately scheduling and locations only permitted me to try a couple of places on the list. We managed to hit Delectable Egg for breakfast and Osteria Marco for a dinner. Both places were really delicious and the service everywhere was fantastic. What a lovely, friendly place. Thanks again!

Can I get some recommendations for catering a small business meeting in Tallahassee? It will be dinner, but should be less than 50 people. Casual is completely fine. We're looking at $12-$14 per person. Thanks!

Is that the little smoker trailer in the gas station parking lot? I stopped there one day when it was at days inn if it is. The guy was so rude and dismissive to me that i didn't even place an order and I have not been back.

I went to Cross Creek right after it reopened and I have no intention of going back again. They may deserve a second chance, but it won't be from me. The service was ridiculously slow, they didn't have half the things on the menu, there was a staleness in the air (I'm a bit obsessed with how restaurants smell), and the food we did get was very unimpressive. Also, there was no kids menu at the time which is a strange thing for a restaurant like that. I'm a big lover of Southern food and I live close to it, so I had high hopes, but I was really let down. Like I say, maybe it's better now, but I'll give it a miss until I know for sure.

Just tried Sahara for lunch today and I was pleasantly surprised. By the looks of the outside of it, I was a little worried, but the inside is a cute little restaurant. The wait staff seemed a bit confused and the food took a while to arrive, but other than that it was really great. I had the Chicken Shawara (sp?) lunch plate with salad and rice and my friend had the gyro and chicken combo with hummus and fries. Everything was really delicious, fresh and perfectly cooked. We also kept asking for pita bread and seemed to get as much of it as we wanted. Such a nice change from the tough, tasteless stuff I get in bags at Publix! I've also never been a fan of hummus and although this didn't bowl me over, it was definitely the best I've had. I also had a glass of the Lebanese tea to drink. It was kind of strong and minty, but not too sweet - just the way I like it. Overall, a really great place to go .

We had a takeout pizza from Paulina's Pizzeria on Mahan at I-10 last weekend and I was pretty impressed. The dough was incredibly fresh, sauce was good and the toppings were better than most (smoked ham, black olives and mushrooms). I highly recommend it and it seemed really popular already. My only complaint is a ridiculous amount of dried rosemary. I don't know if it's the sauce or added on with the toppings, but they really need to lay off it. No one likes to eat a bunch of sticks with their pizza.

Other than Momo's, are there other pizza places in town that I should try?

Steakman, we made it to The Silver Slipper last night for the birthday dinner. I liked the fact that it was one of those old style steakhouses that really doesn't exist anymore. My 4 year old really enjoyed the "rooms" with the curtains. It was a bit musty, but I suppose that's to be expected especially since it was Wednesday at 5:30 (we eat early, I know) and we were the first ones there. My husband did enjoy his steak with mushrooms so thanks for the recommendation. Not really my cup of tea, but I think it met his birthday request.
