Stew Leonard's vs. Fairway

News to me - Fairway is owned by Sterling Investment Partners, Westport, CT.
The Stamford store will be 80,000 sq ft.
And, they donated food, enough for 60 - 80 famalies to the Food Bank of Lower FFld County in Stamford

Stamford - Bye bye A&P, hello Fresh Market

Visited the "new" store today. They jamed alot into the original space. The asles are very narrow and difficult to have two shopping carts pass. The decor is very nice with energy efficiency and direct lighting. The dark motif offset by the shelves is very pleasant. A&P has always been more expensive than Grade A and Stop&Shop - but they seem to have added a few more points of markup. Net - use it for convenience.

Where are the best HOT DOGS???

COSTCO - for $1.50 for a bigHebrew National and a drink - best bargin PLUS, it is a good tasting hot dog. They recently changed to their own brand, but cannot tell the difference.

Chucks Steakhouse, Darien,

Any experience with Chucks Steakhouse in Darien, CT. It has been there for about 40 years and we go every few months. However, two people have said that it has declined. The quality of the food, the salad bar and cleanliness are all mentioned. It would be sad to see a long time restaurant with a good reputation start the downward sprial.

petit diable rouge flour - source?

In today's NYTimes, flour called petit diable rouge flour (littlt red devil) artisanal flour was discussed. Fairway was identified as the source for the flour.

To avoid a trip to NYCity, is there anothe source, either near Stamford or by mail order?

Kosher Markets

We have been going to Crown Super Market in West Hartford, Ct. It is very good, prices are reasonable and has a good selection. However, it is a long trip from Stamford.

Is there any good kosher super markets in the Fairfield / New Haven area?
