First time in Charlotte, NC

Mikeh looks like I will be going for a drive. I only have time to visit one of your bbq suggestions. Which would you choose?

First time in Charlotte, NC

The 7th Street Public Market sounds like an interesting place to visit. Is this simular to the Ferry Building in San Francisco? There are purveyors selling fresh produce, fish, meats, restauants, coffee and tea, etc...

First time in Charlotte, NC

Hi,

Taking my first trip to Charlotte. Looking for some great BBQ and Southern Food. I'm a pastry chef so recomendations for bakeries and chocolate shops will be helpful. It will be nice to check out a specialty food store and/or cookware.

Thanks!!

Last stop Madrid

Thank you!! Yes, I will be traveling back to the U.S.

Last stop Madrid

My last stop will be Madrid and the place I will buy most of treats and gifts for friends. Is there a particular place or store that carries some fine food items like olive oil, cured meats (are we allowed to bring back cured meats?), wine...etc. Recommendations on must get items are welcomed too

Also looking for chocolate shops.

Desserts in Barcelona

Found out Sauc and Hisop are closed the dates I will be there too. Waiting to hear from Cinc Sentits. It's probably for the best since we will be there a short time.

Looking forward to Espai Sucre, Enrica Rovira's and Oriol Balaguer, Dolso and churros

Oro Liquido in Barcelona

Can anyone recommend going to this olive oil store? I remember seeing a piece on "A Dairy of a Foodie" many years ago and thought that it would be a cool place to visit.

Any recommendations on Olive Oils to try? Either at this store or to look for in general. Take home?

Desserts in Barcelona

PBSF, I saw in a previous post that you liked the churros in Seville over the ones in Barcelona. Is there a particular place in Seville you like since we will be there also.

The kids will be happy with eating gelato, although they went to Italy last year. So I'm sure they will be comparing the flavor and taste.

Moments is closed in August. I guess I should have mentioned that we will be there in August.

Desserts in Barcelona

Thank you everyone, especially PBSF. It's been about 5 yrs since my last visit, I'm sure I will end up going to La Sagrada Familia. Yes, the kids definitly have a sweet tooth I will keep Dolso in mind. I also found a past post from you on where to find good churros. I must say on my last visit I was very disappointed with the churros in Barcelona and Madrid. This visit I will be well informed. They are also big fans of ice cream and gelato

Desserts in Barcelona

PBSF can you give me the address of Enric Rovira's chocolate shop? I was looking at his website, but couldn't find it.

Desserts in Barcelona

Thank you PBSF. Excellent options. I was fortunate to eat at the Roca's restaurant in Girona on my last visit to Barcelona. I will try to contact Moments and Moo to see if I can go and eat just desserts.

I may have lunch at Alkimia while my friends tour La Sagrada Familia

I love Oriol Balaguer's chocolate shop, but am not familiar with Enric Rovira

Desserts in Barcelona

Thank you!! I was trying to remember the name of this place. I went to Barcelona a few years ago and discovered this place after I left. Now that I'm going back I was racking my brain (don't get old) trying to remember.

Your other suggestions are great too.

Desserts in Barcelona

Yes, already have a reservation at Espai Sucre.

Meeting friends with young kids in Barcelona, but want to sneak away for some tasty sweets. Looking for a place I can go, sit at the bar and order desserts.

Just saw a picture of a dessert from Moment Restaurant in the Mandarin Oriental that looked amazing. From looking at the menu looks like desserts come in two courses for 25 euro. Is it worth it?

Really want a delicious composed dessert modern or classic presentation.

Thanks

Paco Torreblanca

Thank you. I will be sure to go

Paco Torreblanca

Well, of course they are far. Maybe next trip. Thanks for the info, may have to settle for the gourmet store in Madrid

Paco Torreblanca

Headed to Spain in September. Love Pastry Chef Paco Torreblaca's books. Does he have any pastry shops? or Classes in Spain? Currently, going to Barcelona, Granada, Seville, Madrid, but am willing to add another city if necessary to experience his work up close.

filipino bread recipe

Thank you for the link. Looks like it could be cheesemosa, ensaymada, or Spanish bread. Now, I'm having a hard time finding recipes...any suggestions?

How much Cream Cheese Icing do I need ?

Yes, I agree, I always us a 2:1 cream cheese to butter ratio.

filipino bread recipe

Does anyone know the name or have a recipe for what I believe is a Filipino bread. It's a slightly sweet white bread with cream cheese filling. I remember when I was younger my parents would take us to a Filipino bakery for warm Pan de Sal and this bread.

7 girls looking for a place to watch super bowl in Portland

Thanks for the additional suggestions!!!

NW walking tour in Portland beginning at Clear Creek Distillery

Thanks Leonardo. I added Sahagun Chocolates, sounds delicious. The trimet website is very helpful too.

NW walking tour in Portland beginning at Clear Creek Distillery

From downtown cab ride to Clear Creek Distillery, probably do the 11 am or 1 pm tour.
Walk down 23rd Avenue eventually hitting 23Hoyt for happy hour that starts at 3 pm
Next Ken's Artisan Bakery (hopefully there by 6pm closing)
Next to Saint Cupcake
Next Dinner at Deschutes Brewery
Maybe Voodoo Doughnuts

My main concern is our walk from the distillery to 23Hoyt. Google maps estimated this walk to be about 20 min. Nice or not so nice area for girls to be walking? Debating on if we should opt for Bar Mingo for happy hour and Paley's Place for dinner.

7 girls looking for a place to watch super bowl in Portland

Okay were not exactly girls, mid 30's. Meeting girlfriends Super Bowl Weekend in Portalnd. When we booked we didn't realize it was the weekend of the big game. We all actually enjoy watching football and are looking for a place that will have some good food, tasty drinks and ability to watch game. Close to The Nines Hotel will be great.

Roseville/Sacramento Recomendations

Thanks Margot. Looks like I will have to save this for my next visit. The shop is closed until Jan 7 and I leave on the 6th ; (

Roseville/Sacramento Recomendations

Headed to Roseville/Sacaramento area for the first time. Looking for recomendations for interesting bakeries and chocolate shops. Also dinner recomendations will be great. I live in Napa Valley and enjoy eating at places like Redd, JoLe and Solbar.

SD: Restaurant Week

Has anyone been to Kitchen 1540? There is no menu posted on the Restaurant Week website, but the restaurant menu looks interesting.

Oliveto Tomato Dinners

Planning a quick trip to San Francisco. I see that there are reservations still available for the Tomato Dinners at Oliveto. I've heard great things about there Ocean Dinners, but not much about the Tomato Dinners.

Monkey Bread - Do you have a favourite recipe?

I've made this one several times. Fun and delicious to eat.

La Toque vs. REDD, first time in Napa

I agree for a splurge Meadowood will be great. If you want to stay in Calistoga JoLe is a bit more causal, but has great food. I have eaten there three times and have not been disappointed.

Going to Napa

Since your daughter will be taking baking and pastry classes I think the best desserts in the area are at Ubuntu and Redd. If you have time to drive to Healdsburg, Cyrus has a new Pastry Chef from Balthezar in New York City. Each of these places offer bar seating so it won't be necessary to eat a whole meal.
