Wd-50 or Degustation?

Yes, I know. I was referring to Wd-50.

Wd-50 or Degustation?

Which would you choose to take out of towners if you can go to either for dinner this Friday? There will be 4 of us in our mid 30s. My 3 friends are from out of town so I want them to have a good dining experience. We've never had molecular gastronomy but are open minded. Thanks!

What to get a Chimichurri Grill? Or any other Argentinian steak restaurant preferably near midtown/upper west?

Thanks. I'll give Buenos Aires a try next time. The dessert sounds wonderful. I accidentally posted twice so there are 2 posts of these but as I have written in the other one:

Had a really good dinner here tonight. We had Empanda (chicken and swiss chard), Coliflor Quemada (burn cauliflower), the Entraña a la Parrilla (skirt steak) cooked medium and the Churrasco Argentino (pounded thin filet mignon) cooked medium rare with chimichurri sauce. Everything was delicious. The steaks were very flavorful and tender. The chimichurri sauce went great with the steaks. Boyfriend loved it and we'll definitely be coming back.

We're surprised it didn't have more people in there. It was relatively empty w/ only about 2 - 3 tables occupied. It probably has about 10 tables and is a very small restaurant. Maybe b/c it was really cold tonight and a lot of people stayed in. It's definitely a nice gem in this area and I hope it gets enough business to stay open.

Oh I guess I misread. They have grass fed beef on their menu but I guess what you're saying is that it's not from Argentina. We have reservations so I guess I'll still give it a shot.

@Veggo I didn't see flank steak on the menu. Are you just making suggestions in general when ordering at Argentinian restaurant.

I have a craving for steak and want to try grass-fed beef. Been reading that Argentinian grass fed beef is very tasty and I found a place near me called Chimichurri Grill. Going there tonight. Any recommendations? Or for future purpose, any other Argentinian steak restaurant I should try? Also adding on my TODO list - Go to Argentina.

Thanks!

Where to get blintz souffle?

Where can I get delicious blintz souffle? I just had some recently while in Philly and now I'm craving them.

Thanks!

Seeking hidden gem or little known food stores/specialty stores?

I triple agree. I've been living in NYC for about 1 1/2 years so reading a post like this helps me out too...since nothing is obvious to me yet.

Is Ippudo opened on New Year?

I've called them several times but keep getting their automated message. Does anyone know if Ippudo is opened today?

Minetta, WD-50, Corton, or Aldea

If you go to Minetta early enough you can grab a seat at the bar for dinner. I went on Fri at 6:30 pm with a friend and we didn't have a problem grabbing seats. Shortly after, it got packed and there was a wait even at the bar. If there is, tell a bartender and he/she can put you on a wait list for bar seats.

Free Wifi Near Columbus Circle/Hell's Kitchen/Upper West/Midtown West

I'm looking for a coffee shop/wine bar/bakery/restaurant that has wifi where I can work. I work from home and would like to get out and work every once in awhile. If it has good food/drinks that would be a plus. i live near Columbus Circle at the edge of Hell's Kitchen and Upper West.

Thanks!

STK, Minetta Tavern, or Del Frisco?

My girlfriend and I were thinking of going to one of these restaurants tonight to sit at the bar for drinks and food. We wanted something with a fun atmosphere and good drinks/food where we can sit at the bar. I haven't been to any of them. She mentioned that STK has a cool crowd and Del Frisco has great steak mash combo for $12.99. I'm curious about Minetta's burger. We're also open for other suggestions.

Thanks!

Anyone own the My Invento Better Coffee System?

I'm looking to purchase the My Invento Better Coffee System for a friend's birthday. He currently drinks instant coffee every morning b/c it's easy and he's not a morning person.

This looks like a really cool machine and simple to use. Let me know your thoughts on this if you have one or know someone who has. Or if there is a better machine that you would recommend. I saw some that can do more than just coffee but don't know if they're consistent throughout the different offerings.

Fun/date restaurant needed in WV/EV/Soho for tonight...PLEASE

I've read good things about In Vino on Yelp. Between the 4 you mentioned, do you have a favorite? Thanks!

Fun/date restaurant needed in WV/EV/Soho for tonight...PLEASE

I'm looking for a restaurant for this evening (Thurs) that has a cool vibe, not too loud but not too quiet, for me and a date. Another couple will be joining us later for drinks/snacks so the restaurant can't be too small that they'll not be able to accommodate late arrivals. As long as there is a cool bar we can move to after dinner, that would work. We love wine so tapas, Italian, French would be good but can also do mediterranean or Japanese/sushi...heck, we'll go just about anywhere really (we just love food :-)).

We're pretty sociable people as well so places with communal tables are fine. We actually live near Hell's Kitchen but want to get out of neighborhood for tonight so was thinking West Village, East Village, or Soho but open to other neighborhoods.

Thanks in advance!

Dinner in Chelsea/Midtown? (and dress code at Gotham Comedy Club?)

I've been to Socarrat and loved it. Went with my bf and another friend, who are both chows and they thought it was the best paella they've had in a long time, which I agree. My friend ended up taking another friend back, who also enjoyed it too. And her friend... (ok, you get my point).

I understand your concern for not wanting to have a subpar meal especially if you don't live nearby and can "risk" it every once in awhile. However, I also don't believe in the restaurant reviews as much b/c I have had subpar food at places that they raved and vice versa. In the end, it's only one opinion even if it's from an expert. Overall chowhound is my reliable source for restaurant recommendations. Do a search on this board for the name of the restaurants that are recommended to you to get an idea of what most chows think about the place, usually you can't go wrong then.

Other good places to think about in Chelsea and Midtown:
BLT Fish Shack (midtown) - casual "New England" seafood shack
Tia Pol (chelsea) - Spanish tapas
Izakaya Ten (chelsea) - Japanese tapas (right next door to Tia Pol)
Boqueria (Chelsea) - Spanish tapas

Soot Bull Jeep or Park's Bbq?

Hi, I'm visiting LA and am craving Korean Bbq. I'm staying in WeHo and would like to make a trip out to ktown. After researching this board, the 2 restaurants that stand out are Soot Bull Jeep (love the idea of charcoal grilled meats) and Park's Bbq (love the idea it's "to die for"). There are 2 of us and we're planning to go on Monday. We just moved to NYC so I'm aware there is good Korean bbq there too but haven't been yet. Our last day in LA is Tues. so we'll only be able to hit one place. Oh, and I used to live in Northern VA where there were good Korean BBQs so I'm not a virgin to it but my bf has only tried it once. Given all that, where do you recommend and what should we definitely order? Or is there another restaurant you'd recommend over the ones I mentioned? Also any tips such as..."at Park, make sure you ask for __ panchan b/c they may not bring it". Thanks hounds, you guys are great!

Rest and lounge needed for 7 fun gals to celebrate.

I'm looking for a fun, trendy NYC restaurant with good food and great energy to help my friend celebrate her upcoming wedding next Sat. There will be 7 of us gals all in our early to mid 30s. Would love something with an Asian or Latin flare but am open to any place that would have unique food and good atmosphere. Preferably meatpacking district or any place that would be good for going out afterwards. Also, would like recommendations for lounges we should check out. Not really into the club scene though.

Regarding Asian style restaurants, I've been to Spice Market, Buddakan, Kittichai, and Nobu. Granted my friends haven't been so I would be willing to go back to those places if one of them is the best choice. I was recommended Buddha Bar and watned to get thoughts on that also.

Thanks so much!

Good eats in or near Manhattan Beach?

I'm currently staying in Manhattan Beach till Sunday. Are there any good restaurants near by that I should check out? I will most likely be dining by myself so will either be doing take out or if eating in, would prefer an atmosphere comfortable for single diners w/ book/laptop. I also have a car so wouldn't mind driving a little bit. I would love to try CA cuisine, known for fresh healthy foods, however, I do love southern food or good fried chicken too so may splurge if there is something worth it. Any cute cafes or great breakfast place I should check out this weekend? Overall though, I love food from all variety of countries so there really isn't a must not list...just a must try.

Thanks!

Peking Duck at Nice vs Peking Duck House?

Which restaurant has better peking duck? I've searched the board on this topic but have read mixed reviews on Peking Duck House and some good reviews on Nice but they were limited. I like the idea of the bun like wrapper at Nice but is their duck good?

Has anyone had peking duck recently at any restaurant in the city and would like to comment on their experience?

3 Arlington Restaurants: Tandoori Nights, Earl's Sandwiches, & Piola

I had a tomato based soup, can't remember what it was though, from Earl's one time too and wasn't too crazy about it either. Sticking to the sandwiches sounds like a good idea.

3 Arlington Restaurants: Tandoori Nights, Earl's Sandwiches, & Piola

I think Piola has a larger and more unique selections of pizza than Pie-Tanza. I also like their crust more.

3 Arlington Restaurants: Tandoori Nights, Earl's Sandwiches, & Piola

Wanted to let you all know about 3 restaurants in the Arlington area that are relatively new (have been opened for about 1 1/2 year or less) that are nice additions to the Arlington area between Rosslyn and Clarendon.

TANDOORI NIGHTS:
Just went to Tandoori Nights this past weekend and I really like the place. They're located on the 2nd level of the Market Common, near Barnes & Noble in Clarendon. I actually went 3 times w/ 3 different groups of people. It has nice ambiance and great service. It's upscale non-traditional Indian food. They have a decent size menu and I think they can tailor the level of spice on most of their dishes. On one occasion I was w/ my niece and nephew and the waiter said they can make most dishes non-spicy, so I assume they can also increase the level too. My Indian friend that went w/ me on the one occassion said it's not authentic Indian but the dishes we tried she felt had great flavors.

EARL'S SANDWICHES:
Located on Wilson Blvd between Clarendon and Courthouse. I've been there several times and love their sandwiches. They freshly roast their turkey, pork, and roast beef. I've only had the turkey and though I want to try the other meats, it's just so good that I keep getting the same one every time I go back. My friend who has the pork said it's very good too. I generally don't like sandwiches b/c most places use processed meats but Earl's has reformed me. Defnitely give this place a try even if you think you don't like sandwiches.

PIOLA:
Located on Wilson Blvd in Courthouse next to Cafe Asia. Their menu mainly consist of gourmet pizzas w/ few other Italian pasta dishes and seafood/meats. I used to drive to 2 Amy's in DC for gourmet pizzas but since I live in Arlington, it's great to have a local place to go to for good pizzas in a relaxing environment. It has a nice ambiance and just like 2 Amy's, it's also kid friendly. They have a couple of couches by the bar, which I enjoy relaxing there and eating my yummy pizzas. They have thin crust pizza w/ quality ingredients. I usually ask them to make mine extra crispy so if you prefer yours that way too, then don't hesitate to ask. The owners, who are 2 brothers, are very nice. I haven't been there for happy hour but heard they offer food and drink specials.

New Chinese is Arlington (Courthouse)

No, Hunan Number One is still open. It's in Clarendon not too far from the metro. Even though it's listed in the yellow pages on Wison Blvd, it's actually more on the side street, I think N. Garfield. I haven't been in years but just called them today to see if they have peking duck, which they do. Planning to check it out since it's w/in walking distance for me and I'm always in search of good inexpesive peking duck.
