Morningstar at 750 ml (pics after the jump)
Great review! I know the place but have never entered. Ive seen in Europe that these smaller portions are the newest thing. Just so long as the prices dont stay the same. I know this post is a few months old but Morningstar is on the mark and ahead of the rest of the area
REVIEW: Mariscos Puerto Esperanza, Orange
I enjoyed your review and will be checking this place out by the end of next week. It is hard right now for most to eat out but as foodies, we save (at least I do) and cut back so we can dine out. A great dining experience is the very best entertianment dollar spent. IMO
Pho- is it .. good for you??
Dont add anything to the broth other than the herbs and vegatables ie: soy sauce, it it will be lower in sodium.
Foie Gras
But some grade A and make your own. It will impress your friends and is much cheaper
Clearman’s Galley, “The Boat” is Open Again, but…
I for one am totally disappointed. The new Boat is all nice and brite and shiny. Crowded, and devoid of the ambience of the old Boat. The food is still pretty good although the burgers are smaller. If you get a burger w/fries and the large beer you will see the price doubled. At the old boat the schooner of Miller was 3.75. Now you will pay $9.50 for the beer alone. Too much was sacrificed building the new Boat
Alas, another icon lost to corporate bean counters who only see the bottom line and have forgotten what makes places like Pinks, and Phillipe's culinary landmarks. The Boat was close to this but they dropped the ball, er Anchor on this one. So sad.
Weekend Din Tai Fung Strategies?
I get there 15 minutes early. I live one block away so you know that I get my fill regularly. Hey, I just thought of something. I could become a professional "Wait in line person" for bloggers that live far away. I'll get the table and you just walk in. LOL!
best soup dumplings in LA????
They are the best. The owner was the first in the nation to do this. WARNING! make sure you know how to eat them. If you just pop one into your mouth you will burn yourself. Pick up the dumpling and bite a small hole into it and suck out the broth. It is molten hot
Black Truffles?
Go online. If you can get white ones. I was thinking about trying my hand at hunting for them in the SGV mountains. I already hunt certain types of mushrooms. Why not truffles? They dont just grow in Europe.
peking duck?
Are you kidding me? I saw them closed for remodeling and I was going to go there this month but didnt know they changed the name. They did have the duck as you entered the place. Now I really have to go and check them out again.
Mussels & Fries, where o where?
OMG!!! I saw this post and immediately thought of when I used to live in Belgium. I had this dish at least every other week. I will check some of these places out. I wonder if any serve them in a black pot with the shell fish, veggies and white wine broth?
The Boat in Arcadia
Well the Boat is open and the beer prices went through the roof!!! Almost 10 bucks for the large so a burger and beer has doubled in price. The Cod Fish dinner is still very good as it the red cabbage salad. It is very clean and totally updated. The big raise in prices and well lit dinning area is a turn off
CHINATOWN- is there anything worth it?
Sam Woos is the best. Try the spicy fried squid, salted asparagus, and green with black mushrooms. Not too expensive and very friendly wait staff. The portions are large enough for 2 or 3. There is parking just down the street and it costs about 2.50 if you are eating in the area.
peking duck?
Sam Woo's BBQ in China Town off Broadway. They also have the best spicy fried squid AKA Calamari. The portion for this one is large. Friendly service and no waiting
wine party - need budget friendly appetizers!
I wish I was near you so I could show you. Apps are cheap and easy and you could be a star baby!
visiting from LA this weekend - what won't be too crowded??
Go where ever you want to Ms. Cakes. With the state of the economy you dont need a reservation anywhere. Im out often and just waltz in
La Parisienne Restaurant Francais on Huntington?
A souffle takes 45 minutes to prepare and every since Chef Dufort has left the place went down hill until they closed. The owner, Mr. Haney is incompetent
Tilus Digestivo
When I lived in Rimini Italy I would often go to the Republic of San Marino. After a big meal there you would be offered a Digestivo. Tilus was the brand there and it was very tasty and one of the best digestivos I have ever had.
Ive looked for it everywhere and I live next to their sister city of San Marino CA. Does anyone know a place where I can buy Tilus? Ive searched everywhere and my stash I brought home is gone.
Video Of Chef Paul P. and Chef Paladin
When I was in Culinary Arts School I saw a video of Chef Paladin and Chef Paul along with many other famous chefs cooking a special dinner in Israel. It all had to be Kosher. Does anybody know the name of this? It was an AWSOME treat to watch Paladin! He brought us Fois Gras
Morningstar at 750 ml (pics after the jump)
Great discription! Tilefish is great in chowder. I love the name by the way
The Boat in Arcadia
Ok, I see they are re-building the Boat Restaurant in Arcadia. Does anyone know when they will be open again. They had great burgers and huge beers with home fries for around 8 bucks. May be higher once they reopen but I would love to meet up with a few of you foodies (Play hookie from work) for lunch when they do.
best soup dumplings in LA????
In Arcadia right off Baldwin and Arcadia Ave. there is a parking lot. In the corner is the best dumpling house in the nation. Din Tai Fung.626-446-8588. I live one block away and the guy who started it brought the first to the west coast. Also in the same area are places you can buy homemade frozen dumplings at around $15 per 50 in a bag.
What products at Trader Joes to avoid?
Cheeses, butter, eggs, wine, pasta and pasta sauces are very good and much cheaper than Vons or Ralphs
My New Favorite NY Style Pizza is Nonna!
Dude. I ve eaten their pie several times and it's like, pardon the pun, Butter! It's the ingredients that make it sooooooo good. Only problem I have is it is a bit expensive but hey! You get what you pay for and they deliver!
