Wineries to visit in Mendoza?

Our quote was not broken down as a fee per stop, just one lump sum per person - for the Lujan de Cuyo area (Achaval Ferer is one we are visiting) it was 100/each. He also gave us estimates for just the car and a driver if we would have rather done that and it was about $50 cheaper, but I'm sure we would easily spend that in tasting fees.

Wineries to visit in Mendoza?

Hi,
We are going in 2 weeks (never been) and just hired a guy who was recommended highly on various mendoza boards - Gustavo Delucchi delucchigustavop@yahoo.com.ar. He is very quick to get back, seems to know a lot about the area and all the wineries, and has booked all our our tastings/lunch for the day (in addition to driving us around). The only one I had a friend/food & wine rec for is Achaval-Ferrer winery (which he also suggested). His rates were also MUCH more reasonable then other tours I found online. Hope that helps!

Greatest meal ever in SB region?

I have never stayed at the Ballard Inn, but their restaurant is fantastic! Just made reservations for a Saturday Night dinner there with my Mother-in-Law. We are staying at the Hadsten House for the second time. Very nice rooms, comfortable beds, great location in Solvang, and nice hot tub/patio area for relaxing with (some more) wine after a day of tasting. They also have a breakfast included which is just alright (hey it's free), but we will probably go somewhere else since we only have a few meals up there.

Best eats and Bars in San Luis Obispo / Central Coast

Hi Chowhounders,
We're getting married next month in Nipomo and most of our guests will be staying in San Luis Obispo...with a few sprinkled down the coast from Pismo to Arroyo Grande. We're going up this weekend for our final planning trip and want to try a few new restaurants (mainly in SLO) that we can hopefully recommend to our guests. We've done a lot of the usual places in the coastal area...Steamers, Del's Pizzeria, Madonna Steakhouse, and in-town we've been to the Breakfast Buzz and Louise's Place.

What do you guys think is the best of the area? The must-eats? We'd really hate for our friends and family to miss out on a really great food experience. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

ALSO, we're looking for a bar in San Luis Obispo to hit up after the wedding - it ends at 10 :( - where everyone can meet up and continue the party. Looking for something that isn't packed with Cal Poly kids. Ideas?

Thanks in advance guys!

BBQ Catering on the Central Coast

Thanks Toodie! I haven't heard of any of those caterers and I've been to the Hitching Post, but hadn't thought of that either. While we're at it. Do you have any suggestions for good pizza/Italian places in the SLO area....possibly one that has a separate area/private room where we could hold a rehearsal dinner? We're trying to do the pizza/salad buffet thing so we can afford for everyone to attend. Or maybe a Mexican place? We were thinking Woodstocks until we actually ate-in there and saw that is very much a college bar. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated :)

BBQ Catering on the Central Coast

Hi everyone,
We're getting married in Nipomo, CA next August and are looking for a caterer who rocks the BBQ pit (Santa Maria Style). Hoping to find someone who provides upscale BBQ and interesting appetizers. Any Suggestions in the area from Santa Maria up through Paso? Anyone been at an event catered by Testa Catering (Santa Maria) and McGee's Catering from Atascadero? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Wedding Venue in Central Coast or Santa Barbara Area with GREAT FOOD

We're getting married next year at the Barn at the Dana Powers House in Nipomo. She has two options on the property and both are lovely: the Barn (which has a nice lawn next to it for the ceremony) or the Dana Powers House (Victorian house with a nice garden and patio). We are hiring our own caterer...which I think is a better option than having to use the venue's. Anyone have a suggestion for upscale BBQ caterers? Anyone ever had Testa Catering or McGee's Catering? Just curious.

trendy mexican

The only thing worth consuming at Mexicali is the Margatinis. Trust me, I'm there a couple times a month and the only decent food is the Queso Fundido with Chicken and that's only if you're drunk and wanting a plate of cheese.

Tacos in Silver Lake ?

Actually, to be be a little more detailed, I really only eat the 'breakfast' dishes at Taco's Delta...specifically the Breakfast Burrito and the Huevos Rancheros.

Square One - PK's Review

I am really surprised by the C+ food rating as well. I just had Sunday brunch at Square One and it was incredible. Very affordable and very tasty. We started with the french toast with caramel/banana/orange sauce..fluffy toast, delicate flavor. My boyfriend had one of the skillets and I had the skirt steak and eggs with grits. A-MA-ZING. One of the best breakfasts of my life. The service was great. Our server was very helpful and quick and the male host (who may be the owner) was always on the ball..making sure the people who were waiting had the 411 on how much longer it would be. I think our only complaint was that the dining room was very warm (no A/C) and by the end of the meal we were ready to get out of there...but it does have patio seating. I love this place and can't wait to return.

Indian food in Hollywood/Silverlake/Downtown area

We just had the WORST carryout experience with Electric Lotus. We ordered the dinner for two...or should I say tried...the woman working the phone had no clue...about the menu or, possibly, that she was even working in an Indian restaurant. It was a terrible ordeal to simply place the order. My boyfriend arrived to pick up our order before it was out of the kitchen and drove it directly home...a whole mile. Most of the what we ordered was wrong. We asked for Tofu in a dish instead of cheese which, of course, had cheese when it arrived home. All of the food was not quite mediocre. And the Naan...oh god the Naan! The horror. It was completely awful...all three orders of it. We called to let the manager know how disappointed we were - we even offered to drive all the food back. He told us there would be a ten dollar credit waiting for us the next time we came in...like we will EVER eat at Electric Lotus again. Such a shame, we had an awesome Pinot Noir we were saving for a special occasion and it was the only good part of the night. All we could think of was how many pounds of amazing cheese we could have picked up at Silver Lake cheesestore for the 50 bucks we wasted at Electric Lotu

Cha Cha Cha's

Cha Cha Cha has been very hit and miss with me and my last experience was a complete disappointment. I've dined at the Weho location twice and Silver Lake location twice. Both Weho experiences were decent...no complaints, but no fireworks either. The first time I dined at the Silver Lake location, a little over a year ago, I had a great time. However, my second experience a few weeks ago, left my boyfriend and I vowing to never return. First off, our waiter had a horrifically bad attitude...and we are very accomodating, forgiving diners- being former servers ourselves. We ordered a tapas sampler that arrived quickly, but tasted as if it had been sitting under a heat lamp for an hour...and that was probably the most prevalent flavor in the entire plate. Then we followed up with the jerk chicken caesar salad, which had been ordered dressing on the side and came slathered in thick dressing. We decided to make the best of it, in order to not have to deal with our waiter again, and it ended up being a terrible dish in general. The chicken's flavor was so strong, it overpowered everything else in the salad and tasted unsettling with the dressing. As a waiter, I would never have recommended it to a diner. Our evening was capped off with our waiting scoffing when we handed him our KCRW card (they have a discount). The only good thing about the entire evening was the Sangria.

Yuca's Already!

Surprisingly, My boyfriend and I think Yuca's has one of the best double cheeseburgers in LA. I enjoy the mexican fare as well, especially the machacha burrito...but that burg. YUM.

Tacos in Silver Lake ?

We really enjoy Tacos Delta - the little taco stand on Sunset and Lucile. For a quick mexican fix and insanely cheap prices...you can't beat this place. The food is oftentimes better than the sitdown mexican places we try. Also, they have a small patio area behind the stand if you want to "eat in." I've never been disappointed in the mexican food, but I will say that (unlike Yuca's) their cheeseburger is lacking.
