Challah near Union Square?
Help! Last minute Shabbat dinner. Where can I get a good challah near union square? Thanks!
Where can I find cajeta?
Hi, I'm looking for cajeta near Union Square. Surrounding areas are fine but I'm trying not to veer too far from home for this product. Any ideas?
Meet the parents dinner
Price isn't really an issue as long as it isn't completely outrageous. Dinner is for later this month.
Meet the parents dinner
We're introducing our respective parents for the first time over dinner in the city. We're looking for something that's good but not too fancy, comfortable casual, and definitely not too loud. We don't want to be packed in close next to another table and they definitely need to accommodate 6 (preferably a round table). Thanks!
Where to find grade B maple syrup?
I'm looking for grade B maple syrup and can't seem to find it anywhere. I thought Whole Foods and Trader Joes would easily have it but was shocked to see they only had grade A. Are there any specialty food stores you can think of that would have it? Union square and surrounding areas preferred but I'll venture out farther to find it. Thanks!
Osteria or Porcini?
Coming into town for one night only. Heard great things about both, where am I going to be overall most satisfied?
1 night in Philly, where should I go?
After some more research, which is better: Osteria or Amis?
1 night in Philly, where should I go?
I'm looking for a can't miss, must visit, great Philly restaurant for dinner. Something like Vetri but not quite as pricey. Staying right by city hall if that helps at all.
Thursday Nights
I remember that there are always fun food related Thursday night activities going on all over the city. I can think of grilled cheese night at Campanile and the Yamashiro night market that reopens next week. What else am I missing?
Meet the parents dinner
I'm looking for a good place on the westside to introduce my boyfriend to my parents for the first time. Nothing too fancy, but a good night out. We want a place with a round table (for 5) so everyone can be in on the conversation. And most important, nothing too loud! Any recs?
Should QUICHE be served hot or cold?
I plan on serving one for mother's day. What's the optimal temperature?
Date place near 3rd St?
Looking for something along the lines of House Cafe (on Beverly Blvd) or Taste (on Melrose) in terms of area, price, ambiance. Anything else like these come to mind?
Classic LA restaurant
For my brother's birthday this year, instead of going to the hip newest place, he wants to go old school and try something that's been around a long time. We're thinking along the lines of The Palm, Gladstones, Dan Tanas, Benihana....just something fun and maybe almost forgotten. Any ideas?
Pumpkin Banana Mousse Tart
[moved from Pumpkin Cheesecake thread on the Los Angles board: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/666162#5171094 ] - The Chowhound Team
Make your own! This Pumpkin Banana Mousse Tart from Ina Garten is better than cheesecake, easy to make, and you can even buy the graham crust already made from the supermarket. I get asked by my family to make it every year!

Where can I find candied ginger?
Help!! Surfas is out and I need it asap. Does anyone know anywhere else I can find candied ginger? (preferably in the city from La Brea to the beach). Thanks!
Help! Where To Get The Best Cake?
The cakes at VBS are so not worth the price. Their cakes are overly sweet, I've heard of people getting cakes that are frozen in the middle, and I question just how fresh they really are. Also, apparently their prices are so high because they claim to be using high quality ingredients when really they just use Hershy's!
searching for best veal parm sandwich anywhere
well you may not like chicken but the parm at Bay Cities Deli and Santa Monica is pretty damn good!
Nice dinner - Girasole, Hungry Cat, Chameau, Animal, Campanile or Grace?
Campanile is such an LA staple. Hard to imagine coming here, eating well and not going to Campanile. Plus Suzanne Goin from Lucques was the former chef at Campanile so you'll be getting a change while still enjoying the seasonal market driven menu that Mark Peel specializes in. But as another option, you could also always go to Goin's AOC (small plates) which is one of my favorite restaurants in the city.
Taramasolata
Thanks to everyone who helped out with the Taverna Tony question. Now....where can I find taramasolata to purchase? Any greek markets?
Taverna Tony
The house dip they serve at every table is amazing! Does anyone have any idea what goes into it and/or where I can find the recipe? I crave it!!!
What to eat at AOC, Lucques, Campanile
Lucques is known for their braised short ribs.
Campanile is known for their prime rib and sauteed trenne
What to eat at AOC, Lucques, Campanile
The starter (it's pecorino, not gruyere) is only offered on their Thursday night Grilled Cheese menu
Looking for passion fruit paste or puree
Surfas in Culver City has a huge selection of various purees. Not sure about passion fruit (though I expect that they would carry it), but you can always call to check.

los angeles cooking school?
You may also want to check out Hip Cooks. They aren't professional classes per se but are definitely hands on, small class sizes, and a fun atmosphere. The link is to their west location but they have another one too.
