Thanks to all of you. "Retired Chef": your detail is fantastic.

Ferndale

Thanks to both of you. You're right, I have to eat somewhere/somehow!

Any word on the food at the casino just outside Ferndale? I think it's called the Silver Reef. Where I'm from a couple of the casinos have pretty good food.

Ferndale

Did a search but didn't find much on the Ferndale area. I will be spending a few days there soon. Any favorites? Or is it best to go to Bellingham? There seemed to be more information on the boards for Bellingham.

Idaho

We'll be doing a road trip soon and will enter going east from Spokane and then spend several days golfing in the Coeur D'Alene area. Looking at a map, towns we will be near, in addition to Coeur D'Alene are Hayden Lake/Hayden, Post Falls, and whatever is close to Circling Raven golf course, looks to be perhaps the area of Worley, Plummer or Rockford.

We like all cuisines and all price ranges welcome. Dinner and breakfast recommendations very appreciated.

Spokane and East

Doing a road trip soon and it will probably be dinner time by the time we hit Spokane. Also possible we will get further east, but no further than Coeur D'Alene. I just did a search of the boards, but looking for further updates. We like all cuisines, and all price ranges are fine.

Tortas @Safeco Field

Went to Safeco and tried the nachos at the new torta place. Good. Extremely large portion, real cheese, a very tasty bean layer on the bottom of the stack (dig down right away), and seemingly fresh homemade salsa. Very unique tasting overall. They have sliced sausage/hot dogs on them, which threw me, but my husband liked the hot dogs, so no problem. And it's one of the few places in this new Pen area where you can sit, rather than stand up at a table, and also see the game. Go around the torta stand, to the back to find seating. It's the old Bullpen Pub viewing area.

Ethan Stowell at Safeco Field

Just went to Safeco and concur that for a ballpark this is a good hamburger. Restaurant quality. I noticed all the premade ones had cheese so asked for one without cheese and got one freshly made.

Renton - any ideas?

Not unique to the area, but if you are trying to stay in Renton, and like burgers, Five Guys Burgers at "The Landing".

Road Trip

We recently did a similar trip last month. I think Day 1 is a little ambitious unless you are getting up super early and only "visit" (not spend much time) in Olympia and the rain forest. The rain forest is wonderful, and worth some time to hike around. I don't know if you have an important reason to visit Olympia, but to give you more time for both, I would spend the night in the Portland area instead. Day two could still basically stay the same.... I'm very familiar with that area.... unless it got too dark to enjoy the drive to Newport and Florence (that is one of the beautiful parts of the coast drive) but if that were so, there are plenty of places to stay before you got to Newport or Florence and being off season you would have no problem finding inexpensive places to stay. We found Medford and Jacksonville wasn't a "must see" as much as we thought, but again, don't know your particular interests. But Crater Lake was WONDERFUL. That said, you're going over some mountains to get there and snow comes early to Crater Lake, and I believe the lodge is closed now. So weather will be a big factor for that. If you think you'll run into issues due to weather, closures, etc., I recommend staying on the coast route and save Crater Lake for another time. We went in the last week of September, right before closing, and the weather was beautiful, there were very few people, etc. I understand that it is a zoo when school is out, but we practically had the place to ourselves. Crater Lake is worth a couple of days to do it right., and the lodge is fascinating if you like the history etc of the old national park lodges.

Sequim

Port Angeles is closeby and I recently had much better results there. I had researched a bit, and the first night we had dinner at the Wildfire Grill. We liked it so much we went back every night.

Fast and tasty Salads in Seattle

Focusing on your qualifier "quick", I'd go for the chain Panera Bread. They have several locations and if they don't have one in Seattle proper, there should be one close. They also change quite often to give the lunchtime office crowd some variety.

Best Banana Bread

I'll try to be more helpful than the previous response. There are sooooo many reasons you may not be able to make it yourself. I haven't seen it at many bakeries, but personally I think Starbucks banana bread with chocolate chips is extremely good. And it stays moister than any I can make. Unfortunately you are paying by the piece so it can get pricy.

What is Best Foodie Restaurant on Oregon Coast?

Tidal Raves only for the view, not the food. So we do go occasionally if we can get a window seat. Researching Restaurant Beck is actually on my "to do" list today because we are going to the coast soon. Newport is usually too far from our homebase in Neskowin just for a meal, but we are willing to go for excellent food. Have not tried either one you mentioned.

Seattle Waterfront

Good recommendations, but just a suggestion to check these out on a map. "Walking distance" is so subjective. Last time I was there, good happy hours at the Four Seasons Hotel and at the Edgewater Hotel on weeknights.

Have a good time!

What is Best Foodie Restaurant on Oregon Coast?

We go to the Lincoln City area regularly. I can't say enough about Beach Dog Cafe, but that would be for breakfast. That's quality,...... Otis Cafe is great for quantity which is good too. I made the mistake of celebrating my birthday last year with dinner at the Bay House and regret it. They used to be THE BEST, but in my opinion are now riding on their reputation.....perhaps a change in ownership/management? We have had the best dinners lately at The Side Door. We have found Blackfish to be inconsistent. We've had absolutely wonderful meals there, and not so good meals, so we always debate whether it's worth the risk. For the most consistent high quality special occasion dinner, I would go to The Delicate Palate in Pacific City. Fine dining at a reasonable price, we have loved everything we've ordered and we've gone there multiple times, the service is wonderful and if you're into wine, a great location for that too. And it's not so "fine dining" that you can't go in beach clothes.

Need help - 1 1/2 day in Bend

I just returned from there. After doing research along similar lines to yours, we went to Zydeco Kitchen for dinner and were very happy. You can check it out yourself online for particulars, but everything was excellent, the atmosphere doesn't intimidate and your friend's husband will find things he likes on the menu.

Safeco Field - What's There To Eat? More Importantly, What Should I Eat?

We go to Mariner games often, and make a point of trying all the new vendors each year. I agree with Christy319. The grilled salmon sandwich at Sound Seafood is not only absolutely delicious, but a reasonable price/value for the sandwich and the fries that come with, compared to some of the other booths.

Request Restaurant Recommendations for Oregon Road Trip

Tacompton, bbqboy and syrahgirl - thank you This was just what I was looking for. And thanks bbqboy for the alternative route suggestion, an added bonus. Yes, we just plucked this route from a scenic byways book after having to change our plans (originally a hiking trip, but I've broken my foot) so am settling for visuals from the car. This is last minute and I didn't have alot of time to plan the food part, so again, thanks.

Request Restaurant Recommendations for Oregon Road Trip

From Portland we plan on going on 26 east to Mt. Hood, then up 35 to the Columbia River, then east a bit on 84 and 30 to southbound 97. We'll go south on 97 to the Bend area. From there we will do a Cascades Loop on the Cascades Highway west and 46 south then 43 east back to 97. Last leg is south on 97 to Crater Lake, then southwest on 62, west on 234, then south and west on 238 to return to I-5 to go home north to Seattle. We know good food along the I5 corridor in Washington, but open to recommendations for the Roseburg to Portland stretch. But most importantly, we have never been to the interior of Oregon, so looking for good food along the scenic drives above. If it's more helpful to list the cities we will go through, I can do that too. Thanks so much!

Bandon to Lincoln City?

I hesitated to reply the first time, because "somewhat economical" is hard to interpret, but my favorite restaurants in the area are The Beach Dog in Lincoln City for breakfast, and the Delicate Palate in Lincoln City. I used to recommend The Side Door just south of Lincoln City, but a recent post below, "Newport to Pacific city" says they weren't that good on a recent visit. I hope that was an exception.

Best pub/casual near the ball park anyone?

Someone else can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe they are all the same vendor. Follow your nose. Enjoy!

Road trip eats

In the Lincoln City area, the Beach Dog for Breakfast, The Side Door for dinner. Just a bit north in Pacific City, the Delicate Palate, probably the highest end of price of those listed, but worth it. Also north and east for breakfast, the Otis Cafe. Both the Otis and the Beach Dog can have long waits but they are worth it. Otis for huge quantities of home cooking type of food, the Beach Dog for excellent preparation and service.

Wine plus beach in Oregon?

If you do the Neskowin plan later, reserve early for the Chelan, and ask for an upstairs unit. We go there every few months and the view of the ocean from the lower units is pretty much blocked by vegetation now. Just north of Neskowin is Pacific city. The Delicate Palate restaurant has excellent wines and great advice regarding pairings.

Best pub/casual near the ball park anyone?

New this year at Safeco is Sound Seafood and I recommend their blackened salmon sandwich and many reccomend their crab sandwich too. We are season ticket holders and made a point of trying all the new vendors this year, and they are the best in our opinion. They are in the Terrace Club which technically requires a special ticket to enter, but you are allowed in if you say you are only buying food to go and return to your seats. For a sit down meal not at your seats, we heartily reccomend the pork sandwich at the Bullpen Pub.

Sheet cakes (SEA)

I don't know about delivery, but we switched from Borrachini's to Something Delicious Bakery in Kent. So good, and not like any cake I've had elsewhere. Avoid the frosting that they describe as shortning based, and go with one of the other choices. Their creamy frosting is wonderful. Their cakes are very moist and flavorful and we get raves every time we serve them. They have a website somethingdeliciousbakery.com and they say retirement parties, etc are their specialty.

2010: What is Seattle's best steakhouse?

Jak's serves steaks, but I wouldn't consider it a "steakhouse". The Earl started us out with some examples of steakhouses that lead me to picture a certain expectation of service and atmosphere. Like Morton's. Let's throw that one in.

Newport to Pacific City--please help! Need food recommendations.

Joshephnl and I have agreed to disagree regarding the Bay House in previous posts. Fudjunkie, you will remember the name from the past, and it was another place our parents liked to go back in the day, but we have been too disappointed in the last year or two to return. I put it in the same league as Tidal Raves, great view, but the food isn't that good, and overpriced.
