Monroe Twp Area - new choices or suggestions for 2012/2013?

I am totally looking forward to getting there. Sadly by the time I finish work it's usually too late - so I will have to go over the weekend.

Monroe Twp Area - new choices or suggestions for 2012/2013?

We actually went at 7pm - Grandma is not always concerned about early-bird.... yet.

Totally totally off topic but perhaps I can just sneak this in: we're now dealing with what we think is senile dementia in Grandma - can anyone recommend resources for us to get information on how to deal with her and her issues? Please don't reply here as it is off-topic, but you can send replies or advice to my email sethboy@gmail.com.

Thanks!!!
Sorry for sticking that question on this thread but we're clueless right now.

Thanks everyone for ideas. Angelina we wound up at Antonio's last night for dinner (chosen instead of the Prestige diner which we will try at some point).

Wow it was packed on a Sunday night!! The portions are HUGE and the food was good but a bit bland. I would give it a solid "satisfactory" or "good" but nothing outstanding, however it's close to her which is also important, although she will mostly go out with friends for dinners and we will visit randomly.

Grandma has just moved into one of the senior living communities, and we are struggling to find anyplace for her to eat. I was hoping someone could recommend a few places current for this year as the only things I have found seem to be 2011 or older.

Grandma wants the equivalent of a Charlie Browns type place, or a good diner. She does not want ANYTHING fancy since she only eats things like roast chicken, steak, or your basic old-people foods. Nothing ethnic either.

We personally like Americana Diner, but she was not at all thrilled with thier dinner menu (since they don't have the standard diner menu anymore). Yesterday we went for lunch to the Monroe Family place (not sure of the exact name) on Perrineville Road in the little shopping center. Tonight we are going to try the Prestige Diner so we will see how that goes.

So other than Americana, Monroe Family, or Prestige - what other basic places can anyone recommend?
Thanks!!

Dennis Foy - Lawrenceville Inn? Anyone been there?

Oh well... that was pretty quick then.

As of Monday July 18 2011 - The message on the machine does not say anything about them being closed, still lists dinner hours. I'm pretty sure they were open this past weekend as well.

Lunch on Saturday in Princeton

I'd second the Olives/Bent Spoon/Small World selections, especially the latter two, all for some easy al fresco dining. You can "picnic" at the Princeton library, or find a cozy spot on campus.

If you're looking for some seafood, the Nassau Street Seafood does takeout lunches, and there are plenty of tables in front (hint: you can usually eat "inside" the next-door Blue Point Grille restaurant, although the restaurant itself is not actually open until dinner. (Don't miss for dinner, at that!!!) It's a nice stroll down Nassau Street.

Personally, Underground Cafe scares me. My opinion went downhill vis-a-vis the fact that they make one of their wait-staff stand outside and practically beg people to look at the menu. I once saw a waiter run out into the middle of the street to give a driver in a passing car a sample of whatever they were shilling. That just smacks of "we have a kitschy name for our creepy location and we're just slightly desperate" - oh, and the fact I've rarely if ever seen anyone inside.....

Two things to think about with this restaurant (I have not been there yet)

1) The chef is currently "away at school" or taking a class or something (as of today's writing, and is not in the kitchen cooking)

2) There were several ads on the Craigslist "Help Wanted" section for the restaurant, hiring pretty much all positions....

So, for a restaurant having been open for only a few months, what kind of chef is NOT in the kitchen, AND is hiring a new staff to boot?

I will go try it.... one day....
