I realize that this is a ridiculous question, but I'm gonna ask anyway.

You seem to be all set with Domenica, but I just got a note from Root that they still have reservations available for lunch on Sunday.

Need fun dining destinations for big group...

Domenica, Coquette, and Muriel's all have private dining room space, and Muriel's I think already does jazz brunch so that infrastructure is already in place.

Mr. John's does try to sneak in some New Orleans food through their specials, so ask about them!

King Cake

Have just tried 3 this week that I like very much. 1) Cake Cafe's apple and goat cheese king cake. 2) Pizza Delicious's king cake with cinnamon cream cheese. 3) Gracious Bakery's king cake with a ribbon of chocolate winding through the middle of it.

I agree that Boulangerie's king cake is one of the best in town.

Omg, Kukhnya! I go to Siberia early on Saturday nights just to get my hands on Matt's chicken paprikash. I love his pierogis, too. I highly recommend. Good place to take vegetarians too.

Tsai does really innovative takes on Taiwanese vegetarian food with local seasonal produce. I think their food is creative and terrific.

I would definitely say Pete's consistency has improved greatly since adopting the "to go " model.

Antoine's or Commander's Palace or other for Sunday jazz brunch

Atchafalaya uptown. Great food, music, service, and a bloody Mary bar if you're into that sort of thing.

Dick & Jenny's vs. Jacques-Imo's

I think Tracey's food has declined somewhat since the move, and Parasols is still Bringing It. Would definitely recommend parasols over tracey's.

High five! I agree. Just went there for lunch yesterday, it was awesome as always.

Anytime I see NOLA Smokehouse anywhere I pay attention. They're at The Bricks on Wednesdays. Have not tried but want to: We've Got Soul in the Marigny on Friday and Saturdays and Dim Sum And Then Some at the Joint on Sundays every once in a while (will be there tomorrow as it happens.

Pete Vasquez's "Hush Supper Club" operating out of Stein's on Sunday nights is some of the best food I've ever had. You order ahead of time and pick up everything to heat and eat at home. Tsai is always at the OCH Market and still does house parties as well.

My current favorite food trucks are Empanada Infatada and Fat Falafel.

You really need Twitter for everything.

Dick & Jenny's vs. Jacques-Imo's

I agree with uptownlibrarian, the two are very different. And both very good. I personally would choose Boucherie.

Glad you're going to Coquette! It is definitely a neighborhood bistro atmosphere. (In my neighborhood!)

Where to watch the PATS this Sunday in/around FQ?

There's a bar Uptown that I know is a Red Sox bar, and it was my impression it embraced all the New England sports and their devout fans. It's called 45 Tchoup, and it's near Tipitina's and Dick & Jenny's on Tchoupitoulas Street just past Napoleon St. They often have food trucks parked out front.

Other more FQ places... Crescent City Brewhouse, Chart Room (no food but the best dive bar in town) Felipe's... across Canal, there's Gordon Biersch and a new place called Barcadia. Oh! Also Walk On's on Poydras. I can't speak to the food for Walk On's or Barcadia.

Honestly, you won't have much trouble finding a place. We are a big football town.

Go to Coquette instead of either of those. Or maybe Boucherie.

April visit with NOLA virgin.. I love bistros and/or sitting at the bar

Reconcile is undergoing some renovations and is closed right now... might well be open when you're here, just give a quick call to confirm.

Killer Poboys is kick A$$. Highly recommend. Cash only.

Trip Report - Mondo, R'Evolution, MiLa, Patois, more (long)

It surely is, that review is more than 4 years old! Lots can change in 4 years. I've been going fairly regularly to MiLa since the summer of 2010 (usually for lunch but went there for Christmas last year) and have always enjoyed myself and been proud to recommend it to friends and colleagues.

To answer your previous question, I think achafalaya has music for both days of brunch.

Galatoire or Commanders Palace

Brunch in New Orleans (particularly anything billed as a Jazz Brunch) is going to suffer from too many covers. While I am a recent CP evangelist, I'd definitely say the weekend brunch is much weaker than their lunch and dinner services. They just aren't on their A game. I'm sorry you had such a disappointing experience.

I wonder the same thing about MiLa, having thoroughly enjoyed many meals there. It's awesome, everyone!

Galatoire or Commanders Palace

I will say that the conventional wisdom about CP being better for lunch than dinner must have been before Chef McPhail came on board, because my dinners there over the past year have been great at worst, amazing at best. So I wonder if it's time to bury that old chestnut of advice.

Austin CH coming to NOLA - Looking for Best Tasting Menus

Commander's Palace has a great one, and I also like Coquette. CP is all stops pulled out, coquette's is more subdued.

Best Beer in NO?

Yeah, it's a relief that the upstairs is nonsmoking. The Avenue is many bars in one- service industry/third shift haven, beer bar, Mardi Gras hotspot, and tourist place. Its 24 hour nature lends itself to multiple personalities! Glad you enjoyed it.

Crystal City - do you mean Crescent City Brewhouse?

I also love the Old New Orleans Rum tour. Fun!

Trip Report: August, Stanley, Emeril's, Italian Barrel, Maximo's, Domenica, Muriel's, Red Fish Grill

Great report! Very cool array of places visited.

Yes! New amuse bouche at August! They had just started the cauliflower when we were there on Xmas Eve, and the server presenting it said that they will be shifting the egg ingredients seasonally. Subtle departure, but still excited they're switching it up some.

Group of 9

I wouldn't waste a meal at Squeal. See if you can make a reservation at Boucherie (you have to call) or Root. (Wait, Boucherie might be closed on Sunday, maybe you can switch Herbsaint (an excellent choice btw) tor Boucherie?) Or anywhere on Freret- Ancora will be closed Sunday, but High Hat should be open. Company Burger, Midway Pizza, and Dat Dog are probably not as "unique " as you'd want.)

Serendipity maybe? Dante? St. Lawrence?

company burger- things I wish I'd known

It's American cheese (let us not have a discussion of the similarities and differences between "American" and "processed" cheese.)

I love the buns! They are baked special for CB and I think they are delicious tasting, and soft enough for easy eating but have enough structure to stay intact.

Adam Biederman has a very specific idea of how he wants his burgers to be. I happen to love his burger ideal, but since it's pretty specific, not everyone will agree.

Man - it's been way too long since my last Company Burger visit.

Ancora lunch

Chef Jeff wants to spend more time with his family, is what he told me. And since the lunches are pretty quiet, it was the best way to make that happen.

I will miss the lunches- Chef made amaaaazing bread and even the simplest ingredients were prepared so wonderfully in between those slices.

Ancora lunch

If anyone is as enamoured of the under-the-radar lunches on Fridays and Saturdays as I am (their sandwiches make me weep with joy) just be aware that tomorrow (Saturday, January 5) is the last day they will have lunch service.

A temporary reprieve for Brennan's

I've had some excellent food at CP under Chef Tory McPhail, most recently in October where we ordered the "Chef's Playground," a 6 course meal based on seasonal ingredients and the chef's imagination. It was phenomenal and I happily recommend it for lunch and dinner to anyone who asks. I don't care for their 25-cent martinis but I think their wine by the glass menu is pretty good.
