Where to find pistachio paste ?
My friend recently made some yummy pistachio paste based pancakes. I felt bad that we used up his entire supply of the stuff.
Is there a place to find quality pistachio paste in Philly?
Thanks!
Cheap and good apple juice "by the gallon" for making apple wine?
I'm trying to make delicious apple wine (or apfelwein). It's quite easy, but I am having a hard time finding good, quality reasonably-priced gallon-sized jugs of apple juice.
Any ideas? Bonus points if the juice is local or if someone can point me in the direction of an apple press. :)
Tria fermentation school...any good?
It is good, overall. I have found the wine classes to be consistently better than the beer classes as far as presentation, professionalism, informative-ness, etc. The wine importers (i.e. people who study and drink wine all day) seem to be the best, in my experience.
Where to find grains of paradise?
Good call. I checked their website and it's listed. I'll check it out. Thanks!
Where to find grains of paradise?
I am brewing a beer (a super-dry saison with pear) and my recipe calls for Grains of Paradise. Does anyone know where I can find this spice?
roofdeck dining in philadelphia
Standard Tap has a neat roof deck on the second floor. In fact, one of my springy warm-weather rituals is to sit out there savoring a brilliant beer and the very good duck salad.
Bored off the old haunts in South Philly - new reccs?
Royal Tavern is solid, solid bar food.
Brunch there is surprisingly satisfying, but go on Sunday because whoever works the bar on Saturday has no idea how to make a Bloody Mary. And the ones on Sunday are delish - spoken as someone who generally hates Bloody Marys.

I always eat-in at Hardena - it's a bit like sitting in someone's house. Last time I visited, I recall they were watching the "Mr Bean" movie as I ate.
I always take out from El Jarocho because I'm a little self-conscious about eating big, greasy, vile-looking tacos in public - possibly in front of women. Just can't do that.

Hardena @ 17th and Hicks - Very good "home cooked" Indonesian food. $6 / plate! The place always looks like it's closed, but it's not. Really.
El Jarocho @ 13th and Ellsworth - Truly-better-than-the-rest tacos are $2/pc - chorizo especially good. The goat special platter they do on Saturdays is sublime.
Bumblefish?
Yes. For take-out sushi, it's surprisingly good. And the staff are quite nice - often giving me free snacks or even free sushi along with my meal.
I wish more people would go there, because I want it to stay open. It's a quick/cheap dinner option on my 'hood.
