I'm looking for a GOOD pizza place to pick up a pie on Christmas, it's a tradition of mine. I don't want a half bake, i need fresh. not even Domino's is open so far I've called:

Where to eat in Little Tokyo
So this seems a simple enough question, but when I do a search I get nothing relevant. I go to little tokyo all the time, but usually stick with the same two restaurants out of fear of accidentally ordering something spooky. I love most japanese food, sushi included, but stay away from the weird meats like intestinal tracts, fish flakes/broth. I'm looking for something not expensive, and in the area of that outdoor-ish mini mall market. Any ideas? Any recommendations of a restaurant and what to get there would be appreciated.

Speaking of Taco Bell... I am still questing for a chili cheese burrito, or "Chilito" There is a site that documents the places that are supposed to serve them, but I've called all the SoCal locations on there and none of them actually serve this wonderful little piece of Heaven!
Pico Robertson..did my gf move us to no man's land?
Yeah I know what you're talking about with a no man's land. There's a place down the road about Robertson/Pico, it used to be called "The Joint" but it's changed names, I think you can get a beer there in the evening, and they have music. For food, check out Got Kosher, they have awesome BBQ on Sunday. Jeff's Sausage Factory is pretty good. I love Natalie Thai, and around the corner is Chef Ming's Kitchen (Olympic and Doheney) which is super good take out Chinese (they cook it all from scratch)
Haru - new sushi place
Haru is amazing. The sushi is wonderful, fresh, and organic. I usually get the sushi set, which at lunch is only about $15. It comes with tuna, salmon, yellowtail, red snapper, ono, sweet shrimp, and a scallop. Oh and soup, salad, and 3 pieces california roll, and the BEST spicy tuna roll ever. In addition to great food, the front of the house is run by Kuni's (the chef/owner) fieance (Haru) and his roommate. They are very sweet and make you feel at home. I know, sounds like and ad, but I love these guys! Oh and Kuni claims to NEVER forget the face of any of his customers! ^_^

K-Town Salvidorian Food?
Ah HA! Thank you for the suggestions. I am very excited to try a new cuisine. Oh and I LOVE papusas...though as previously mentioned I don't think anything will beat the papusas at the Hollywood farmer's market! ^_^

Hey Chow people. I've noticed going through K-town on Pico there are a lot of Salvadorian restaurants. I've never had this cuisine before and am VERY curious. Any suggestions of a place to start?
Best Biscuit and Gravy
Hmmm.yeah, I LOVE nick's and I frequently get the biscuits and gravy there, but I agree it's all wrong. it tastes like it comes from a mix and then has sausage mixed in.
on the subject of "wrong" things. I miss Mc Donald's B&G, it was sooooo good. no SoCal McD's serve it.
Elementary School Chalupa
hmmmm...I'm not familiar with this "chalupa" (I went to school in the mid west) BUT I loved a thing in school called taco crunch which sounds a bit similar. Have your tried chili pies? they are fritos, with chili, cheese, and sometimes onions. Sonic Drive in (there's one in Anaheim) has a fritos burrito which is nice. Just don't let it set around, the fritos turn into a corn mash rather than crunchy chips.

So I have been totally loving the favorite hamburger thread here! i have to say though (and it's a joke with my friends) I *love* chicken sandwiches. I think I've eaten more of these in my lifetime than anything else, and though it may seem to be a simple dish, it can be done very poorly (which is sad) and they can be done extremely well. So i have to ask what is your favorite chicken sandwich in LA? I'm partial to the grilled-chicken-breast-onna-bun style sandwich, but i'm interested in any kinda chicken on bread style sandwiches. so here's mine...
Cafe 101
The thing is HUGE. it's a massive tasty good blackened chicken breast with a creole mayo that is outta this world. I love it when things are blackened, without tasting burnt. I eat this with a knife and fork and usually end up with about 2-3 meals outta this sandwich. The taste is amazing (super juicy and tender) and the value (it's less than $10!) is what really seals the deal for me. I like it 'cause it's simple and flavorful diner food.
The Waffle
I ate here for the first time about a month ago. I really didn't want to like this place. I got the buffalo chicken sandwich with blue cheese...wow, WOW! An excellent medium spicy marinated chicken breast, the blue cheese was actually melted and had strong flaovor that compliment the buffalo and chicken happiess (I usually don't like blue cheese 'cause it overpowers things) I think this sammy came with bacon. A juicy sandwich without the stringiness some chickie sandwiches can have. Another sandwich I had to eat with a knife and fork Sandwiches with bacon make me so happy!
Both sandwiches had flavorful buns (that sounded wrong), that had a firm texture without being tough. I hate that when you bite into a sammy and everything slides out 'cause you can't "break" the bun. >_<

Yup, That's one of the things I've considered trying, but it's always so hot outside and hot corn doesn't seem like it would be good. I'll have to wait 'till winter for those!
Eating a "bulldog"
Ok so i don't mean a dog...I'm not even sure if that's what it was called. My friend used to live in Burbank around the corner from this little Asian (and then some) food stand. They had this unique little thing on the menu, it was a hot dog, wrapped in cheese, then wrapped in a egg roll wrapper and deep fried. For the life of me I can't remember where this stand was?! Does anyone know what i'm talking about...did I just imagine this odd little food?!

Sku: Thanks for the info. I've always wondered why they taste so good. What's up with the Jamaican place? I went there a few months ago and had some of the BEST chicken ever, looked forward to going back, and then I never saw them again. Are they only there certain Sunday's?

I'm at the Hollywood Farmer's market at least one Sunday a month. Now I have my favorite cheese and produce people, but I noticed this weekend there are a couple food stands that I always hit, and many I have neglected to try (usually too full from all the samples!)
My favorite eats at the market are the Papusaria. It always has a huge line, but it's a basic papusa, with the most amazing 5 chili salsa, pickled (?) cabbage, and cream. They call it sour cream, but it's off white and more the texture or mayo. and...they're only $2!!
I also hit the Thai place, across from the papusaria and guy playing the drums with kids, that serves $1 chicken saytay, and those coconut milk round "things". they're sorta fried in this weird contraption and the two halves are assembled to create a ball.
I know I've been general with referencing these places, but it seems like there is just 1 of everything. So what's other people's favorite food stands at the Hollywood Farmer's Market? I've decided I will try something new next time and would appreciate any recommendations!

Nicks is in fact Awesome, though I can't say much for anything other than breakfast. I can say, this is THE FRIENDLIEST DINER EVER! No kidding the employees are all so kind and many of them "family"
candy stores in LA?
Munchies on Pico (right around Robertson) is AWESOME. It's kosher, but it doesn't affect the candy. ;D They have everything from fine chocolate, parve, gummies, and hard candies that you can buy by the pound. They also sell icees, ice cream, cookies, and fozen bananas. I love this place!
The Waffle: A Delighted Update
Agreed! I was leery of this place because of reviews, but went at the request of a friend. Had an AMAZING buffalo chicken sammich. I also discovered that waffle fries + sausage gravy = Awesome. it's on my list of good stuffs!

That is a total bummer, I live right up the street from Jeff's and I love everything I've tried. Also they are *very* nice and very cool, so if you weren't satisfied you certainly should've spoken up, they would have done something to make up for it. :D
I say give 'em another try. Try the chicken burger it's tasty, also get the garlic sauce for the fries.
REVIEW: Take a Bao, Century City
Agreed! I went there with my boyfriend before a movie. I was TOTALLY looking forward to eating there. The fluffy "bao" part was too much, the meat was flavorless, and it was just overpriced for tasteless meat, raw veggies in a big fluffy mess. I ended up ditching my bao and running over to the Japanese joint across the way for some miso and green tea.

I have to agree. I ate here once and I really liked the mac and cheese, but the rest was just...meh! I don't want "meh" especially not for these prices. I didn't like their fries either. This is definitely a place you go to more for the atmosphere than the food.

Thanks, I appreciate the tips. I think I "cured" my buffet jonez last night. I made the long and difficult bike ride down to "New Panda" OMG YUK! The selection wasn't that great (didn't even have sweet and sour chicken or kung pao!) and the food was cold and just yuky >_< do not want!

Awww geez I forgot that. I live in the neighborhood and I'm *constantly* heading out to the market on Saturday's to do my grocery shopping, and am always "re" surprised to find it closed!

Bummer, but I'll keep looking. I've determined that a buffet is worth up to 16 miles of round trip biking to me. I've been to Hunan Taste (I work at San Vicente/Olympic) I thought it was OK, a little bland for me. On a side note, a strip mall discovery worth talking about is Ming's Kitchen at Doheny/Olympic. Very fresh and tasty!
