What are the "must not misses" in Santa Fe and Albuquerque?

Deb, I have had two great Green chille cheeseburgers at the newly burgerized Bumblebee's on Cerrillos.
Great chocolate shakes too.....

Saturday Night Dinner on the Strip

Just returned from three nights in Vegas.
Had a great meal at SW in the Wynn.
Great Steaks, and excellent sides.
Impressive wine list.
Also dined at Bouchon at the Palazzo/Venetian.
Fun place, great food, Bistro authentic.

Bouchon

Sushi next Saturday

Just had two meals at MOzen Bistro, which is the 3rd floor cafe at the Mandarin hotel at CityCenter.
Hands down the finest sushi of my life.
Including Vancouver's Tojo's. And various spots around the globe.
The sushi chef is named Mats, buddy up to him at the bar, and your he will take great care of you.

Sushi?

Rib Girl,
I just returned from three nights in Vegas.
I discovered, rather, stumbled into the best sushi I have ever encountered.
I was sober upon arriving, so this is a true recant.
Looking for a spot for lunch, following a CityCenter tour/shopping, I found the 3rd floor cafe at the Mandarin Hotel. The chef's name is Mats, and he delivered a great selection of sushi, sashimi, and one or two surprises. Make sure you try the Uni, even if you don't normally care for it.
You could taste the sea in it. That is fresh.
Small sushi bar, seats about 8...nice beer list.
It is a beautiful hotel, a nice respite from the rest of the Vegas craziness.

Santa Fe and Taos - 2 Questions

It remains one of my favorites, and they also do a to go service, so you can get their Bolognese sauce, and add to your own pasta, etc.
Have you been to Koi yet?

Santa Fe and Taos - 2 Questions

breakfast burrito in SF, I like Bumblebee's, but not sure how early they serve.
As far as the non NM offerings, I am a huge fan of Mu Du noodles.
Mu Du has been at the top of the best SF restaurants for many years.
Her asian offerings are not just noodles, so I wish she'd drop the noodle in the name.
Your non meat eater will find many dishes there. Ask for Murphy, who is the manager, very helpful.
Koi is a newcomer, a non Spanish tapas style restarant in SF. Great fish, and very unusual menu for SF.Has one of the few suncset views in SF.
Andiamo is an Italian favorite, never fails to dissapoint me, very cozy place....
Always love Pasqual's for breakfast.

Maria,
Since you are obviously a knowledgeable local, (your reviews have been very helpful),
my wife wasn't sure how formally/informally to dress in Yountville/St. Helena. We have reservations for dinner at Bistro Jeanty, Buchon, and Martini House.
I assume I should wear a jacket at dinner....
Thanks for the great posts.

thank you for the fast , concise reply!I'll definitely be trying your suggestions!

headed to Mayo clinic Scottsdale...

I am taking my wife to Mayo clinic, and would really appreciate favorite restaurant thoughts which might be within 20 minutes drive. Not price sensitive, but don't want to stray too far away from the Mayo area, as she doesn't doo well in the car.
We live in Santa Fe, so probably would avoid Southwestern.
French, Italian, Sushi, anything goes...
Thanks in adavnce!

Advice on Santa Fe: Cafe Pasqual, Geronimo, The Compound, etc

re: MYTHOMANE
Can't quite agree with your choices, you like Geronimo, )which I have NEVER in 12 years enjoyed, average food at NYC prices) , yet you dismiss Shed, Santa Cafe, and Pasquals all as tourist traps?
I think that you need to avoid Santa Fe all together.

Advice on Santa Fe: Cafe Pasqual, Geronimo, The Compound, etc

A new must try:
MuDu noodles is now serving Sunday Brunch.
I went on the first Sunday, and it was great!
It was sort of ike Dim Sum, but with MU in the kitchen, everything was superb.

Have a great trip to my town!

Uncle Sam's BBQ: Albuquerque

Wonderful Beef ribs, great sides, cole slaw, pot. salad.

Fine Dining in Santa Fe, Grad Student Style

i would try Mauka, great fish, stay with ordering from the appetizer list to stay on budget.

also, MuDu noodles, again, order from apps., or split one of their huge entrees.

El Meson has great tapas, live music on weekends.

for lunch, try Bumblebees...easy on pocket , very unusual oferings...lamb burrito is awe inspiring, not tex mex.

what happened at El Farol in SF

i would suggest trying again..i had a great , fun , wine soaked meal there two weeks ago.
also might try El Meson, on washington st. nextto Santa Cafe, they are great , also w/ live music. great tapas.

Advice on Santa Fe: Cafe Pasqual, Geronimo, The Compound, etc

Must try Mauka...
Very distinctive, very imaginative.
Chef /Owner Joel Coleman was formerly of MuDu noodles.
Restaurant of the year by the Santa Fean.
My personal favorites...Lamb Udon...duck confit ravioli...sashimi app.
Fish is always perfect.

Santa Fe - Looking for New Mexican/Local Cheap Eats

try Maria's carne adovada echiladas with red.
and a traditional margarita served up.
All you need. Thats it.
period.

"Event" Dining in Santa Fe

You need to forget about Casa (Yawn) Sena, and hit the dance floor at El Meson
www.elmeson-santafe.com
Great tapas place, live music many nights.

Non-New Mex advice in Santa Fe and other ?

Betsypaige,
A couple of thoughts....
Mauka, on Agua Fria st. is one of my favorite spots, period. Do not miss. The chef/owner was formerly the chef at MuDU Noodles, (also a Great place.)
Ditto for Andiamo.
Geronimo, other than the Elk, is a miss. Overpriced, full of tourists, and poor service extraordinare.
Compound is a better choice across the board if you want a fancy priced meal.
El Paragua in Espanola is a favorite of mine, about a half hour north from the SF plaza. They also have several to-go only places in SF, one on Cerrillos Rd., called ElParasol, and another in Pojoaque, and one in Los Alamos which is eat in.(I would go there rather than Gabriel's after Bandalier.)
The chicken Guacamole tacos are sublime.

Sugar Nymphs has one of the best green chile cheeseburgers I have ever had; and wonderful pies too.

If only one dinner in Santa Fe...

well, everyone has an opinion, and I happen to like the margs and the carne avodada enchiladas...

Thanksgiving in ABQ or Santa Fe

Andiamo meets your price and rustic needs. Italian meets home cooking.505-995-9595
For great margaritas, Maria's.
Mauka for a fantastic meal, check website for menu.

Andiamo! Santa Fe restaurant

full time resident, from Dallas.
I eat at Andiamo regularly, and use it as one of my favorite entertaining spots for out of towners.
It is a very cozy spot, with always great food. Like having dinner in someone's home.
Do not miss the pork Loin, the crispy duck legs, the polenta appetizer. Or the chocolate pots de creme for dessert.
Ask for a table in Willow's area. She is a very polished waitperson/manager.
Prices are very reasonable, you should definitely use reservations.
Another great S.F. place is Mauka.
Both have menus on their websites.

Santa Fe, New Mexico

Must try Mauka.
My favorite restaurant in SF, maybe the country.
Forget Geronimo, better than Pasquals.
