Non-Ronzoni bucatini/perciatelli in Park Slope?

I like the bucatini at Pastosas in Bensonhurst. Beware Barilla, some of it comes from italy, some of it comes from Mexico. Read the label carefully.

Looking for specialty foods & bakeries in Brooklyn

The Family Store on Bay RIdge Ave and 3rd Ave. Homemade yogurt with homemade fruit toppings. Hummus, and all the mediterranean dips you can dream of. I think the best falafel in NYC, and whatever else the owners have made that day. They'll give you so many tastes, you won't be hungry anymore.

FINALLY FANTASTIC GELATO IN QUEENS!!! LA DOLCE VIA in WHITESTONE

My Italian friend said that there will never be gelato in the U.S. because gelato needs to be made with unpasteurized milk. With pasturized milk it's just not gelato. Do any of these places make authentic gelato?(which I guess would be illegal?)

A+ Noodle House in Bensonhurst.

Had lunch there today and it was soooo good. Homemade noodles pork chow mein and steamed juicy buns (soup dumplings). It's brand new and I just tried it on a lark, and wow. Try it and let me know what you think. I'd be curious how other dishes are?

Brooklyn's Best Sandwiches

I'd add the Family Store on Third Ave. and Bay RIdge Ave. for their incredible falafel sandwich with hot sauce. (Although anything I've ever had there has been amazing.)

Mexican Grocery Sunset Park?

Any supermarket or bodega on 5th ave above 20th st will have what you are looking for. The one on the corner of 23rd st has it all and you can get some amazing hot food as well.

Palm sugar

I'm always open to substitutions, but I found what I think to be a very authentic pad thai recipe, so I want to follow it as closely as I can. Thanks for all the suggestions. I know I'll find it one of these days.

Palm sugar

I tried blue apron but they were out of "cocoanut" palm sugar, which I think is different from what I am looking for. Will check the coop again. Thanks for the help

Palm sugar

I looked for it at the food coop, and couldn't find it. Is it near the other sugars?

Palm sugar

I called the food coop and they said they didn't carry it. I found something called red powdered candy (which was some kind of a dark Chinese sugar.) I used this in my pad thai as I had no other alternative. I'll keep looking for the real deal and stock up and post when I find it. I'm also going to look at the Thai grocery on Mosco st. I imagine they will have it.

Palm sugar

I've tried two Asian markets (Sunset Park and Bensonhurst) looking for palm sugar and no luck. Does anyone know where I can find it in Brooklyn?

On another thread about Malasian restaurants, I posted that my Malasian hairdresser recommended Restaurant Malasia in Flushing. You can search that thread, and read the responses.

dry ginger

It is for my friend who had surgery recently and is very nauseus. She told me it is thin pieces of dried ginger. No sugar, no powder, you just chew it.

I am looking for dry ginger preferably in Brooklyn. I have tried the food coop. I'm not sure if it's a health food thing, or an Asian ingredient.

Asian recipes

I live between two of NY Chinatowns, so I do have access to a large assortment of ingredients. However, I often have no idea what brands to buy. This list will be a great help. I will add, that there is a Thai grocery on Mosco street in NY Chinatown that I recommend. They also recommended to me, some of the brands in your list. They had keffir lime leaves the last time I was there, which I find hard to find. They also said they have galangal seasonally. As a bonus, across the street and upstairs is a little chinese restaurant that is cheap and good.

Asian recipes

I was inspired by greedygirl, and went to a used book sale today. I picked up an almost homemade looking book called "Korean Cooking" by the Korean Institute of Minnesota. It looks very promising. I also found "Hot Wok" from an old PBS show. The photos look amazing. I hope the recipes are as good.

I had already shopped at the other market, when I discovered this new one. The prices and options seemed better. It seems to be a bigger and better version . Let me know what you think?
