Eye Weekly on Ramen in Toronto I have to agree, Kenzo makes a superior ramen...the best in town with a great vaiety to choose from. |

J-Town ~ Open Now: Sakana-Ya & Famu (+ photos) We took one look at Sakana-Ya and went straight down to Taro on Sheppard and have been there 4 times since...superior fish and great to see all the old familiar faces on the floor and behind the counters. |

Wow...good question, ramen here in Toronto is not as good as back home in Japan, but I would say ramen is best at following places...Konnichiwa and Kenzo. |

Don't write it off just yet, my wife and I have been there twice in the past week and new owner Tsuji-san is making his mark. |

Yes Janel, I hope fans of Japanese food find their way to Sakawaya. Regular jazz nights are Sundays and features Koji on guitar, he used to play gigs once a month in Sakawaya when Koki-san owned it. |

I must say Tsuji-san has done a good job since taking over Sakawaya this past Spring. Though he tremoved several standards from the previous owner's menu, he has added his own touches here and there (a wonderful eggplant appetizer) as well as nightly specials.Plus the interior got a much needed cleaning and painting. I have eaten there 5 times and have seen an improvement in service and food with each visit. As far as a rating goes, if those dull places on Bloor St between Spadina and Bathurst are a 1 star and Kaji or Aoyama are a 5 star...I would give Sakawaya 3&1/2 stars. Very nice Japanese food and sushi for the price. |

My wife and I were there again last night, we are both from Yokohama and miss much of of the food we grew up eating beside just sushi. |

The new owner Tsuji got off to a slow and awkward start - chopping the menu wasn't the greatest idea in the world, like other posts here, my wife and I do miss some of Koki's appetizers. That said we gave him a chance as we like to support the neighbourhood and our patience has paid off. |

J-Town ~ Open Now: Sakana-Ya & Famu (+ photos) I tried Sakana-Ya and felt it did not live up to the hype, we made the trip down to Taro's new location on Sheppard and were pleasantly greeted by old familiar faces. Love their new place and fine selection of fish. |
