Brunch at La Bamboche or other patisserie

Looking for a good brunch at a patisserie with great croissants and dessert, preferably mid-uptown. Has anyone tried the brunch at La Bamboche?

Thanks!

Rice quality at Taro Fish?

They have a take-out menu on their website.

Thanks for the responses! Not expecting perfect shari but it's nice to know that it's half decent.

Rice quality at Taro Fish?

I'm looking to get one of those sushi party trays from Taro Fish and I was wondering what the rice quality is like compared to some restaurants in the vicinity like Cafe Michi or Aoyama? Thanks!

Ottawa: Need rec for dinner

I would also consider the new Black Cat Bistro. They've got an interesting menu and it's relatively affordable. Everything we had was delicious!

New Black Cat Bistro in Ottawa

Has anyone tried the newly open Black Cat Bistro? Haven't seen too many reviews.

Thanks!

NOTL or PEC?

Depending on when you're going, PEC is holding Countylicious: http://www.pec.on.ca/countylicious/

$30 prix fixe menus. Harvest had a great prix fixe last year and this year's menu looks delicious too.

Good eats in Sooke?

Thanks for everyone's responses. Sounds like the Sooke Harbour House is exactly what I'm looking for.

Are there any recommendations for casual places to grab a lunch or a snack in the Sooke area? 17 Mile Pub?

Good eats in Sooke?

I will be staying in Sooke for one night in August and I am looking for good local cuisine. Is the Sooke Harbour House worth the expense? Or are there other comparable places in the area? What about casual places for lunch?

Many thanks!

Searching for Pear and Gorgonzola Pizza

Terroni's C't Mang thin crust pizza.

Harvest - Prince Edward County

We were there around Christmas time and it was wonderful. There was only a $38 3 course prix fixe available (although you may be able to reserve for a tasting menu). Everything we had was delicious, especially the quail and foie gras appetizer.

Hidden Treats and Secret Gems Near Dundas and Bay?

Art Square Cafe across from the AGO at McCaul and Dundas isn't too far away. I think their crepes are a bit hit and miss but it's a nice place to sit and get some coffee.

Good weekend breakfast/brunch in Markham/Scarborough?

I tried the Bluestone this weekend and I thought it was a pretty good breakfast/brunch experience. My partner and I had the French onion soup, Florentine eggs benedict, and the Bluestone skillet. I would get the soup and the eggs benedict again - the skillet was a tad greasy. With a coffee and fresh squeezed juice, it came to about $40. My partner felt it was a bit pricey for what we got, but I haven't found a comparable place in the area yet so I would go back.

Thanks for the recommendations!

Good weekend breakfast/brunch in Markham/Scarborough?

I often crave a good brunch on the weekends but I'm stuck in the Markham/Scarborough area. Are there any good options?

Many thanks!

Thanksgiving lunch around Union Station?

Thanks for everyone's suggestions - will check out those pubs someday! My friends and I have decided to check out Le Petit Dejeuner which is not too far from Union. Hopefully it won't be too busy :\

Thanksgiving lunch around Union Station?

Thanks, but I should mention that we're looking for something more casual but perhaps somewhat more interesting than say, Hot House.

Thanksgiving lunch around Union Station?

Some friends and I are looking for a nice relatively affordable place to have lunch this Thanksgiving Monday around Union Station.

Thanks!

Dining Outside

George has a beautiful patio and very good food.

My opiniated comments on Syracuse dining options (long!)

Is John John's a sit-down type place or just takeout? And what kind of hours are they open on the weekends? Thanks!

So what's the word on Le Cafe Michi?

Haha, my friend and I went last week for dinner and she ordered the chirashi in 3 bowls and I ordered another dinner set. Neither of us got any of the complimentary appetizers you mentioned but got plain old soup and salad. Our slices of cake were also around the same size they always were and there was definitely no fruit garnish. Could it be possible you're getting special treatment?

All I'm saying is that for about $22-23, you can get a great chirashi or sushi set at Zen. My perception is that the quality at Zen is superior to Michi. That said, Michi still has lots to offer.

Miyabi on Highway 7- any recent visits?

I'm not sure if anybody else has experienced this, but I've gotten ridiculously slow service on the two occasions that I went to Miyabi. Granted, they were both on Friday nights. But who wants to wait 1 hour for food to hit the table - especially on a Friday night??

The recent visit was even more hair-pulling than the first, which I thought was perhaps just one of those nights. My partner and I ordered the sushi and sashimi set ($62) supposedly for "3-4 people" so we didn't order any appetizers. Perhaps we should have known better because we were waiting for 1 hour drinking green tea and when the set did arrive, it was barely enough for 2 poeple. Sashimi came in threes but there was only one of each kind of sushi. Plenty of sake and kappa maki. I can't imagine 3 - let alone 4 - people sharing the tiny set. The fish portions were of very good quality but there has to be similar quality at a better value (and in a more timely manner!) elsewhere.

So what's the word on Le Cafe Michi?

I would have to agree with wciu that Zen is better in terms of quality and perhaps even price. I do think the quality at Michi has declined somewhat since the changeover. However, its better than almost all sushi places in the Scarborough area and I think it's a nice touch to end the meal with a slice of their Japanese cake.

I would also recommend Hama in Market Village on the border between Markham and Scarborough. I heard they may be renovating so their decor will finally get a much needed sprucing. $20 will get you a lovely chirashi or sushi set. Great value and quality.

Kensington Organic Ice Cream location?

oh that explains it. i wonder if it's still going to have "kensington" in the name! thanks!

Kensington Organic Ice Cream location?

Does anyone know where the organic ice cream shop in Kensington is located and what days/times it is open? I can never seem to find it. Thanks!

Dinner near AGO?

I've never been myself but I've heard some good things about the Art Square Cafe.

I think they've been mentioned on this board and they also have a website.

good time for oysters in toronto?

Decided to go with Rodney's last night to try something different. As expected, the oysters were fresh and tasty. We tried a bunch of appetizers as well. We enjoyed the crab callaloo soup, haida indian candy, quahogs and smelts. But the fried calamari and fresh abalone was disappointing. The service was relatively friendly.

I did find that the one time I've been to Starfish, the service was excessively slow and a bit pretentious. Perhaps next time, we will try sitting at the bar. I think in general, I enjoyed the fish entrees at Starfish more than Rodney's non-oyster offerings. While most of the appetizers we tried at Rodney's were good, nothing was truly spectacular as I remembered the fish at Starfish.

Nonetheless, we enjoyed Rodney's and will be back for oyster experiences in a casual environment.

good time for oysters in toronto?

I want to take my partner out for oysters for his birthday in two weeks and he mentioned that they may be out of season around this time. I had the impression that one can get good oysters at any time of the year, so is it true that at certain times of the year, the quality of oysters or maybe the selection isn't that great?

As well, we've been to Starfish and may be looking to try Rodney's. Although from browsing people's responses on the board, it seems that Starfish garners better reviews. How does the selection and quality of oysters compare between the two? Is Rodney's less expensive?

Thanks!

Le Paradis on Bedford

I still haven't made it to Batifole yet, but I think Le Paradis is a great place to have an inexpensive bistro meal. I went this Friday and 2 apps, 2 mains, 1 cocktail, 1 dessert and an digistif cost $67 after tax before tip. Considering the food ranged from good to fantastic, it was great value.

Best Peking Duck in or around Toronto?

speaking of peking duck ripoffs, my friends and i found out that at Asian Legend, if you refuse to pay extra for a greasy overfried crystal fold second course (which we've had on a previous occasion and decided not to get again), you don't get the rest of the duck in any form. maybe i've been eating at too many cheap chinese joints, but at 29.95/duck, it seems like they should at least chop up the rest of the duck for you.

Special occasion (with gf-to-be) *not too expensive plz

I find Main St., Unionville to be a nice place in the 'burbs for a romantic date. There are a number of options that may be appropriate. The Chophouse does pretty good steak and it has a decent atmosphere. Unionville House is in a tiny old house and is quite cozy. Recently, I've eaten at the Blacksmith Bistro on a Sunday and the food was good and the surroundings pleasant, but I found the live entertainment distracting.

Hope he finds what he's looking for!
