[Indy] Big Night Out...

I'm looking for a place for my 21st birthday dinner with my mom-- I've been a fan of Adobo in the past but I've had it before... maybe looking for something new. I've been a vegetarian for two years but recently started eating meat again-- this doesn't mean I'm looking to eat at St Elmo's (tried it, wasn't really that impressed, I'd rather have a nice cut of meat from a friend's cow at home than some $50 steak and a cup of Campbell's bean soup)

Getting back on track: I'm looking for a place where I can get a decent glass of wine, maybe a cocktail, and an interesting meal that won't break the bank. I love trying local places, and yes, even semi-chains like Adobo and here are some likes and dislikes to help you out:

Likes:
R Bistro (but too $$$)
India Garden
Adobo Grill
Sushi
Vietnamese cuisine... pho, banh, etc

Dislikes:
Boring chains
Oakley's (Bad experience)
Steak

Grand between Fairview and Snelling (MSP)

Coffee News- Offers free refills on coffee, few places do. Can get busy during the school year but the food is consistent and the deserts are to die for. Watch out, they do love their garlic.

Shish-- Shish is the best place to eat in the area, hands down. Leo, the owner, is really nice and really cares about what he serves. I'm a vegetarian, so I go for the falafel wrap, but my Midwestern mother can't stop raving about the lamb burger and perfectly seasoned fries.

Italian Pie Shoppe- It's ok, nothing special. Try delivery from Pizza Luce, which is just down on Selby. Everything is fresh, tasty and there are way more options.

Pad Thai- I like it. Not the best spring rolls ever, but decent.

Tea Garden- Great for loose leaf teas, fruit coolers, the ever popular bubble teas.

I've never tried Huong Sen but you should also think about checking out some of the places just a bit down the street-- a quick bus ride on the 63 or 84.
Just a few good places not too far away:
Everest on Grand-- Delicious Momos, the curries are pretty good, too.
Faskia-- Delicious Ethiopian, reasonable prices

Oh and if you're going for ice cream, do Grand Ol Creamery. IZZY's is always so...dry, it just tastes a bit stale.
