48 hours in Vancouver

Sushi high end:
Octopus Garden
Blue Water Cafe (this is not a sushi restaurant but they have very high quality sushi on the menu.)
Tojo's (if you go here please know you will be dropping upwards of $100/person.)

Other sushi:
Suika (more of an izakaya but excellent sushi also. Good ambiance. Loud at dinner time.)
Kishimoto (fantastic sushi on "The Drive." Good lunch spot.)
Shiro (very traditional/no frills. Great sushi. Good lunch spot.)

Backup plan for Vij's?

I second siena

Visiting Vancouver/White Rock

Uli's in White Rock is pretty good. Not sure how cheap it is as I was there for a price fixe thing on Monday. I believe the regular menu should be good value.

The official Uli's webpage is down so take a look here:

As for Vancouver, take a peak around the boards. Tons of good info already posted.

Cru, Blue Water Cafe or Yew?

I have not been to Yew. From my own experiences, Blue Water Cafe is much better than Cru.
And if fish is your thing, Blue Water will not disappoint!

The atmosphere at Blue Water is bustling, but definitely not loud.

If you want a very buzzy atmosphere check out Chambar.

Solo dining?

I have no idea what momofuku is but Vancouver has some great restos with bars. Check out Blue Water Cafe, L'abbatoir, or Boneta.

BWC is in Yaletown, The other two in Gastown.

Suggestions for the Week-End in Vancouver?

If you do end up at Siena, get the pork chop. I had it last weekend and it was killer!!!

Cheapest, High Quality Organic Coffee Beans

Cheap and "great organic" aren't really found together too often!
I love 49th Parallel beans...not sure if they are organic though.

What's new and great in Vancouver?

I haven't been to West in ages so I can't comment. Vij's is worth the wait in my opinion.

Gourmet lunch? Hawksworth is definitely nice for lunch. For more casual fare grab a Porchetta sandy at Meat and Bread. Or some tacos at La Taqueria. There's also some great chow being made in the city's food trucks...check out http://streetfoodapp.com/vancouver

Vancouver Business Dinners

Scratch Chambar...it can get very loud.
Your other picks are good although I can't say I've been to the new Boneta at a busy time so I can't comment on the noise there...

If you can splurge one night check out Hawksworth (downtown) or Blue Water Cafe (Yaletown).

Toddler/Baby friendly restaurant suggestions near these attractions?

Thanks for the recs! I'm at Quebec/16th so I'll check out your suggestions. I have been to Trilussa and enjoyed it very much. Took the kids to Pizzeria Barbarella recently and that was not the best atmosphere for kids! Amazing pizza though!

Toddler/Baby friendly restaurant suggestions near these attractions?

I've got a 3 yr old and a 4 month old so I feel your pain when it comes to finding places to eat. For us, the most toddler/baby friendly restaurants are the Rocky Mountain Pizza chain, and Little Nest. We took them into Cafe Gloucester recently and that was fine. The food was nothing spectacular. Also take them to Shiro quite frequently with no problems. Great sushi at Shiro.

Where to shop

I've found the produce great so far so no complaints there. If it stops me from going to the grocery store I'm a happy man!

Where to shop

I'm a lazy ass - and I have two young kids so we just use Spud.ca and they deliver to us! It's fantastic.

How is Bluewater for non-seafood dishes?

She will fare very well. I've personally had the short ribs & beef tenderloin there. Both were phenomenal. BW gets mixed reviews here but the best meals I've had in Vancouver have been at BW.

Good fish & chips downtown - does it exist? (Damn you Fresh, Local Wild!)

Thanks, will give Feastro a shot. It's close to my office downtown.

What are you enjoying at Vancouver street food carts?

checked out Mangal Kiss the other day. They do a middle eastern-y wrap thing. Chicken or Beef with lots of good veggies and sauces.
Really good! Will be back for sure.

Good fish & chips downtown - does it exist? (Damn you Fresh, Local Wild!)

Now that Fresh, Local, Wild is closed until spring I have no where to get GOOD fish & chips downtown! Maybe a pub downtown? Any suggestions?

Suggestions for Vancouver (downtown area) and Whistler

A couple of lunch ideas...
Meat & Bread - try the Porchetta.
If you get a sunny day, take a short drive to Go Fish on Granville Island.

One or Two dinners in Vancouver (plus coffee)

There's a cozy little bar at Boneta where you can dine solo. L'abbatoir would be another good spot to go solo. Vij's is not a great solo spot.

Where to eat near Downtown Vancouver?

I like Nuba on Hastings and Cambie. Wherever you decide to go make sure you make a res. Valentine's Day is a very busy night for the restaurants.

Top five gourmet sandwiches in Vancouver?

I've been to Dunn's once. I'm glad it's not closer to my office because I'd be a 300 lb whale in no time.

It was by far the best smoked meat sandy I've had in Vancouver and it definitely compared to the meat I had in Montreal at Schwartz's.

Fries and salad were excellent also. Highly recommended!

My faves:

1. Porchetta at Meat & Bread
2. Dunn's
3. La Brasserie chicken/gravy/onion rings (food cart)
4. La Grotta Del Formaggio
5. Re-up pulled pork (food cart)

Long Weekend i Vancouver--Looking To Try Something New (New to Us, that is)

A few high end spots to consider...Bishop's, L'abbatoir, Chambar (Bishop's is intimate/quiet. The other 2 can get loud).

Getting Married - Blue Water Cafe for dinner - advice?

Great choice! Blue Water is fantastic! Make sure you try the Tsunami:
thinly sliced hamachi with jalapeno, ginger and sesame oil

ISO lunch spot downtown Vancouver for relatives

Pourhouse and eight 80 somethings? Maybe they can all sit at the bar. Now that I have to see!

FIRST TIME IN VAN CITY - 5 suggestions needed :)

1) Le Crocodile
2) Blue Water Cafe

Other recc's: L'Abbatoir, La Quercia, Cioppino's

Late night downtown Vancouver on a weeknight?

I believe Hawksworth is open until midnight.

Are you sick of Granville Island ?

I've been to Edible once and it was excellent. Will definitely return!
I'm not sure how you could get sick of Granville Island. Grab some charcuterie from Oyama and a baguette and just take in the scenery. That's a good day for me.

visiting for the Grey cup

How old is he? He might enjoy the "scenery" at Cactus Club!

Cheese Steak yum

Well, I went for a cheesesteak last weekend and it looked just like YVRCHOW's pic. The cheese was not melted nearly enough. The meat was quite good but too dry. They need to use a slightly fattier cut of meat if they want to compete with the real deal in Philly!
Will I return? Maybe, but it will probably have to be a drunken 2am job!
