Portland -The Corner Room and Grace?

Tried Grace this week. Was not particularly impressed with the quality of food preparation given the high caliber competition in Portland. Lamb entree overdone and dried out. Rib eye steaks the same. Wine list OK. Appetizers of organic green salad and creton were very good. The cool factor does go to the interior design, however, I found lighting level to be sorely inadequate for menu reading. We sat on the upper level for service and I had a birds eye view of the open kitchen. I would argue that the functional lighting level at the pass station leaves the chefs wondering what their dishes actually look like. For an open kitchen design, I would have thought that crisp white uniforms for the staff would add to the viewing pleasure rather than the frumpy black attire. Won't be going back in a hurry.

where can I find great hakata ramen in New England?

I recently was turned on to hakata ramen while in New York city. (Manchenko Tei 43W 55th st)
Can anyone recommend where I could find similar in Eastern MA, NH, RI or CT?

Best Seafood in Portsmouth, NH

I have to second the rec. from ChrisB on Black Trumpet as my favorite in town. We usually do raw oysters only at Jumpin Jay's than to BT for dinner, although others like the entrees at JJ. I'm hearing good things about the new chef @ Dunaway. I'd give Pesce a nod as well. If you are full up on Seafood, try out Cava tapas or Four- both new places. Finally, I'd say you enjoy the Green Monkey.
For a Portsmouth experience, you must try a late night hot dog at Gilley's trailer (near the parking garage) total dive, but cool. Enjoy the weekend!

Deli meat, Bar Harbor

There is a Hannaford supermarket in Bar Harbor, on cottage street. They should be able to satisfy just about everything you'd want.

Oysters in/near New Castle,NH or southern Me??

yes, I should have expanded that comment. ScubaSteve is absolutely right. only oysters @ the bar at jj's; go elsewhere for dinner!

Gramercy Tavern or Blue Hill (NYC) for dinner?

I'd go with Blue Hill over GT for the creative fresh take on farm to table, but also for the experience. Be ready to put your trust in the chef...they will personalize the menu (the farmers feast) for you, (what you don't like) but be open to surprises. The staff is passionate about what they do and what they make...add the charcuterie plate to your dinner, wonderful hand made bologna and copa served by the young staff who create it. After numerous delicious, beautifully presented dishes, all I had to do was mention chocolate, and presto, a chocolate creation (not in the kitchens plan for the night) arrived to the table to end a wonderful night.

Atlanta visit in August

I'll second Bacchanalia for the 'splurge' dinner of your visit. Take a cab and enjoy the wine pairings. Was there last year and enjoyed it thoroughly! A must.

portsmouth dining advice?

start with fresh oysters and drinks at jumpin jay's at the bar, than for dinner try the Black Trumpet or the Green Monkey. I have not tried Brazo's yet (across the street from the green monkey)...same owners as the green monkey. For late night greasy snacking...a portsmouth tradition is a trailer by the parking garage, called Gilley's. stick to the hot dogs but enjoy the people watching! have a great weekend
