Pea shoots

Try any of the Asian Markets - H Mart, 99 Ranch Market and the like. They get them and they are very inexpensive.

Ft. Worth lunch spots

The Woodshed is probably exactly what you're looking for. Beautiful area with the river drifting by, great patio, interesting (and delicious) menu, great beer selection, friendly service. The patio is dog friendly. On our recent visit, they had a guitar player.

Looking for (non-American) Supermarkets to Check out

Can anyone recommend a decent Italian deli or grocery market in North Dallas?

Anyone watch Chopped?

DH and I can't believe that someone who gets a hair in the dish or omits an ingredient is allowed to continue past the offending round. We love the random assortment of goodies in the basket, and play that game with ingredients in our pantry.

SD: Craving me some Potatoes..

Baked Potato - Red Tracton's in Del Mar - with the works. It's a meal by itself!

OLD SCHOOL CHINESE (PuPu Platter) IN SAN DIEGO?

King's Garden has several locations in San Diego (Solana Beach and Mira Mesa) that has many "old school" favorites.

Food delivery in/around Encinitas?

I agree that Mobile Waiter is a great option. We use them at work and they are very dependable in San Diego (Solana Beach). Another idea is to send one of those Edible Bouquets - even the staunchest heathy eater can't resist fruit !

San Diego Places where the wait is baffling.

Are you saying that you never wait anywhere because your time is too precious? Or just at the restaurants you name?

Staying at Marriott Del Mar

It's a bit of a walk (maybe about a mile), but the weather is supposed to be gorgeous this week. There's a tiny Italian restaurant on Carmel Valley Road called Trattoria Ponte Vecchio. We love it there. http://www.pontevecchiodelmar.com/home/ .

Unless you're desperate you should avoid Pat & Oscars (a local chain) and Tio Leo's, which are temptingly close to the hotel.

Headed to Tucson...from Massachusetts, Help!

Hi Lilibet - I moved to Tucson from MA about 12 years ago, have since moved on to California. It's been a while since I've been there, so don't know if my recs are still open.

In Tombstone, there's not much good, but we liked Don Teodoro's Mexican restaurant. It's off the beaten path of Main Street - excellent (hot, hot, hot) salsa. Don't miss the Courthouse in Tombstone.

In Bisbee, a town we loved, there was a restaurant called La Roka that was very good. Make sure you go to the Copper Queen mine tour.

Casual early dinner in Oceanside

Yes - we're playing Arrowood - and from what I hear about the narrow fairways, we'll need a couple of bottles of Moretti after the round! I appreciate your recommendations!

Casual early dinner in Oceanside

We're golfing mid-afternoon in Oceanside on Saturday and were hoping we could count on some recommendations for an early, casual dinner. Any recommendations?

Las Vegas recs for classic cocktail fanatics, on or off strip?

We visited the Minus 5 bar at the Mandalay Bay in November. It was a lot of fun because we had a great group. It was a really fun time - even the glasses are made of ice. There was an eight foot ice sculpture of Elvis and a wedding altar inside. That said, it was a bit of a gimmick - not romantic in the least - and FREEZING. Having been to the bar (and the Vodka Locker) at Red Square would recommend that instead of Minus 5. We also enjoy the cocktails at Olives (I know you get those in Boston) and watching the fountains just outside at the Bellagio (not available in Boston). I would particularly recommend the fruit-infused vodka martinis and the beef carpaccio. We never miss it when we visit Vegas. Have fun!

Las Vegas on Sale

Not that I would take advantage, but the Excaliber emailed me about a $25 all-day buffet. Breakfast, lunch & dinner at their buffet - all you can eat. In and out privileges.

Best place to eat in Bellagio?

Each of our trips to Vegas includes a stop at Olives for the beef carpaccio. We sit at the bar and enjoy a couple of their fruit-infused vodka cocktails. Nice view of the fountains from the inside out. Can't vouch for the rest of the menu because we always get the beef.

Encore - Las Vegas

Has anyone seen a good summary of the new restaurants at the Encore? We're heading to Vegas this weekend and wanted to check them out. Can't seem to manage their website to get the info I'm looking for.

San Diego Sports Bars

Try Junior Seau's restaurant, we've had lots of fun there "pre-gaming"

Help me build a "best XXXX on the vegas strip" scavenger hunt!

You beat me to the beef carpaccio at Olives! We were there in mid-November and the bartender told us that some Food Channel show (he wasn't sure which one) had just filmed a segment on it.

Thank you, Venissimo cheese (SD)

Aniata used to keep your phone number in their system along with your purchases and they could look up what you purchased last time-for those of us whose senior moments occur sporadically. Does Venissimo use the same system? I confess to not visiting the Flower Hill location since the takeover, but anticipate doing so soon.

Best Cioppino in Las Vegas

I second the recommendation for Nob Hill - My husband had it for his 50th birthday dinner and has raved about it ever since. So very memorable.

Raw bar near the cruise dock-S.D.

Thanks so much for posting that you liked Oceanaire - I'm glad you liked it.

Four Days in Vegas: Twelve Meals, Eleven different restaurants reviewed.

Thanks uhockey - I have been hanging on this thread ever since you started it. I am looking forward to using your opinions on our next trip!

New England style hot dog/lobster roll buns in San Diego

Do you mean the roll is sliced on the top rather than on the side, thus holding the dog/lobster in place much better, and allowing more condiments and less breakage. I've been here for five years and never once found this style of bun/roll. I'd like to know if it's out there.

NY're looking for a cool beer Bar in Vegas (on the strip?)

Right in the Mandalay Bay Hotel (in the shopping area) is the Burger Bar, which has excellent microbrews and the burgers aren't bad either. Casual place that's usually crowded. For good reason.

Raw bar near the cruise dock-S.D.

Oceanaire, very walkable from the cruise dock and well worth it.

Del Mar area casual but good?

I can recommend Trattoria Ponte Vecchio on Carmel Valley Road - it's tucked in between Iris and the Quick-E mart. Good Italian with fresh ingredients, a nice staff. The owner is the chef.

Has Anyone Tried Eda-Mami Sushi in Del Mar?

when did you go here? I heard it was closed for business.

olives at the bellagio (Las Vegas)

Sit at the bar and have the beef carpaccio and a few martinis (I like the flavored vodka). We try to do it for a light lunch every time we're in Vegas.

Italain Rainbow Cookies--SD

Fillipi's Pizza Grotto has an Italian store/deli in the front of the restaurant that has cookies from Mike's Pastry in Boston flown in. We've had them and they are the real deal. Not sure if they have rainbow cookies, but they have a decent variety and they sure taste like home.

Maine lobster in San Diego?

I'm also from New England living in San Diego - I'll pipe in on the debate - local (CA) lobsters are jumbo shrimp to me. The Asian markets (99 ranch, specifically) have some good size lobsters at reasonable prices. When you've been away for a while, the taste is like home, even if the journey has stressed out the crustacean a bit. Another suggestion - we've found the lobster bisque at Red Tractons in Del Mar (by the race track) is the best we've ever had. Try it - it might also help your wife's recovery.
