Well, to me, technically, just looking at the texture and taste, Langer's has the best pastrami. Best pastrami sandwich is open to debate. But, I have to say that while it is cooked differently, I have tasted the most flavorful pastrami ever, IMHO, and, it comes from a barbecue joint: Smoke City in Sherman Oaks at 5242 Van Nuys Blvd. Unbelievably rich. A little goes along way. Nobody's pastrami can match the flavor of Smoke City's. Sacrilege, I know...killer pastrami from a barbecue joint? But, it's unbelievably good. Because it's a barbecue place it comes with white bread. I recommend buying it by itself (they sell it by the pound) and taking it home and putting it on rye, or, my favorite, a long onion roll from a deli-or, what the heck, bring your choice of bread to the place (BYOB). Wow! And, that is exactly what I said out loud upon tasting it the first time. |

Thank you. That sounds like a good place to try (Odessa). |

I've had the Costco lox, both kinds. Not bad. Looking for more flavor. Price was good. |

I will check out Jon's as they are not that far, along with Ikea |

I didn't know that. What's the price per pound? Ballpark figure... |

Years and years ago there was a place called Danish-American Farm that had good lox (not pieces, talking about slices) for a really cheap price. I have been looking for something like that all over but can't seem to find cheap lox unless it is lox pieces. Anybody have any place out there? Cheap would be $10-15 a pound these days... |

great pizza in west l.a - yes. it's true. I was with you until you mentioned Casa Bianca. I would rather eat a piece of cardboard with red paint on it from Little Caesar's then have one bite of that crap the stoned out hipsters in black are wolfing down at Casa Bianca. Their pizza reeks. No redeeming qualities. The dough, the sauce, the cheese, the toppings, all of it tasted as if birds had eaten it, regurgitated it, and, then the chef re-constituted it into a pizza. Garbage! |

Looking For Cheap Cold Cuts, Etc. Hi, First time posting. Years ago I was able to get good lox at Danish American Farms for a ridiculously low price. Wham! No more Danish American Farms. For years now I've been going to a market at Burbank & Whitsett in the valley for very good cold cuts (tasty Russian & French ham, mesquite turkey, cheeses, etc.) at ridiculously low prices and wham! Place goes Kosher. Doesn't sell the ham, prices are up, etc., etc. Does anybody know of any markets/deli's that sell ham, turkey, etc., in the $2.99 to $4.99 per pound price range? And, if you know where I can get good cheap lox (not lox trimmings), I'd be interested in that well. It's taken me most of my adult life to rebound from the loss of clear Nesbitt's Cream Soda in the bottle and Danish American Farms, and now this! |

Who remembers La Barbera's pizza in West L.A.? Fuhgeddaboutit! Pizza is dead in LA now that La Barbera's is gone. Because I love a really good pizza I will try Villa Italian in Culver City and the places in San Pedro & Wilmington. As for Barone's, the other poster was right. I wouldn't send my worst enemy there to eat that slop-and I don't just mean the pizza...YUCK! |
