Lazy Ox Louzy Lunch
It sounds like a bad meal. The only thing I have to add is that the meatloaf I grew up with, and love, comes with a thick tomato paste-y sauce and not gravy. So I'd suggest that you might want to ask about how a meatloaf is prepared before ordering in the future.

A one-man operation that delivers can be somewhat problematic.
Baco Mercat
Ater their last night at 9:15. Service was great -- attentive and quick, though not pushy. At that hour on a Thursday, still largely full, though there were open tables. Loved the Toron (oxtail) baco, the braised artichoke and banana cream pie were quite good also. The gin-pop cocktail was a bit too much like sweet soda for my taste, but at least the alcohol level was generous.
ok, i tried Chego on Overland. Culver City (had only one dish)
I don't love Chego, though I've been two or three times and would go back once in awhile. But in my experience: it has hardly been dirty or disgusting; there have been lines, but the wait from the time you enter until your food is served isn't longer than at most restaurants, it is just that some of it is spent in line; and it wouldn't occur to me to judge it by its grilled romaine salad. I think the most ardent defender of Chego would be willing to concede that the similar salad at Gjelina might be a better experience all round. (And the waiting in line is shorter if you only do it once, rather than go back a second time.)
Me, I found the rice bowls I've had tasty, but ultimately too much of a goopy mush, in which the flavors are not well differentiated. But, as I said, not so much so that I wouldn't want to eat it now and again. And I also liked the asparagus in my one try of it.

Sotto - a What the Heck menu
I had an appetizer salad (partially shared) and didn't finish my pie. Plenty of food. (I ate somewhat more lightly than usual. Probably would usually finish the pie.) My first impression was quite favorable.
Drop the milk or we'll shoot!
I don't know -- it would be one thing if the complaint was that the state was unreasonably refusing to allow the sale of raw milk. But what we have here is raw milk producers who -- to judge from the same story we are using to condemn th action -- the people arrested have been operating their business without any business license of any kind, and without the necessary permits. Make fun of the cops all you want, but if you want to further the cause of raw milk, you want the raw milk producers to get all the proper licences.
More fundamentally, I think we should recognize that one of the more important things that government can do is to ensure clean and healthy food. Maybe this raid was over the top; it sure seems like it. Maybe it is connected to nefarious anti-raw milk forces. But maybe these guys should just have gotten their business permits like all othe rlegit businesses.
Best pizza west of the 405?
Glad you mentioned Good Pizza. I too like it (and for those who knew it was closed, it is back.) A bit south of the others mentioned in this thread.

AOC Open table spotlight drama and rude service
Since you asked, yes, I prefer to be get the news sooner, so that I can choose whether to deal with it then when it might make a difference, or else wait and enjoy my meal first. In addition, AOC is a small plates place, and often the ordering is done in phases, so that even after food has been ordered, more often is ordered later.
I also wonder if the delay in getting ahold of the correct list of people who had purchsed the deal was AOC's, or Open Table's. No way to tell from the information you present. It sounds to me as if Open Table had not updated the list in sufficient time. (After all, AOC seemed to spend more time actually trying to deal with the problem than did the person at Open Table you finally got through to.)
I should say that I haven;t been to AOC in a long time, and hold them in no particular favor.
In any case, the way they handled it obviously put you off, so, for you at least, it was badly handled. I still would prefer getting the news sooner rather than later, myself.

AOC Open table spotlight drama and rude service
Things always get lost in the translation, but I don't really see that the way they handled it was so bad. If I were in that situation, I would want the restaurant to let me know as soon as possible that there was an issue with the deal, so that if it took time to fix I could be sure that I could do it before I left and had to pay the full price. And so that if I couldn't fix it, I could adjust my ordering accordingly. Now I would want them to be discrete and polite about it all, and maybe they weren't.
Steingarten
Given that they are brand new, I'm willing to give them a bit to shake out the wrinkles. Anyone else been? And the beers? Belgian?
Ojai
I ate at Azu recently, and found the food fine and the service no problem at all. (Not a local.) Perhaps you got the wrong waiter on the wrong night.

Here's the info from Grubstreet. (i passed by the place myself a couple of nights ago). (You probably missed it because they call it Steingarten.)

Oh, my God -- Hot Dog Revolution was my preferred name. Went to the one on Broadway on the Upper West SIde -- 68th?
Even at this remove I know the experience was for atmosphere and now would be for nostalgia. I wouldn't approach it with high expectations regarding the food, were I you. But I'll have to go.

Durkee's Dressing -- WLA
Thanks, all. I also found it at Albertson's on Sepulveda near Palms. Nice to know there are other fans.
Durkee's Dressing -- WLA
Thanks. Glad to know I'm not alone in
my search -- I also inherited the taste for this from Midwestern parents. I'll try following the hints in the previous thread and report back.
Durkee's Dressing -- WLA
Anyone know where to get Durkee's Dressing (a sort if sandwich spread)? I've seen itover the years at a Bristol Farms which no longer carries it and a Von's which has closed and no longer carries anything.
Turkey sandwiches are not the same for me without it.
A-Frame
Your question -- is that really what you go out to dinner to eat? -- is a good one. For you, obviously the answer is "never." For me, it sounds great, if maybe not what I'd choose every time out. And not at all like any sports bar I've been to.
And it isn't that rare that one can prepare food more cheaply at home -- but I I'm holding off on my own judgment as to whether I can fix better lamb chops until I've tried the ones at A Frame.
Yogachik -- thanks for the thorough report on the menu. Any drinks to recommend?
Dine LA Spago Last Night
It sounds like DIneLA served its purpose perfectly for you, with regards to Spago. You got to try it at reduced price, and liked it well enough but learned that you don't think the food good enough for the price for you to return. Others might try the same food and love it (I found my Dine LA lunch there good enough that I'd return.) I think it would be far worse if the DIneLA teaser misrepresented the food enough to sucker you into a full price disappointment.

Dinner near Agoura Hills?
If you are a beer drinker I'd recommend Ladyface Alehouse and Brasserie. Good selection of beer, including belgian-style house brews, and the food is decent, at least the food I've had.

Joxer Daley's in Culver City--Saints Football, Food?
But the question is, was it a Saints bar in 2007? (I had a standard but decent breakfast there during the World Cup this year.)
Ladyface Alehouse & Brasserie in Agoura Hills
Sorry you had a negative experience; I went there the first time last week and enjoyed it. And one thing I thought was how reasonably priced it was. I don't quite see how your bill was almost $40.00 for a $10 salad, a $10 burger, $4 popovers, and one beer (the pints run in the $5 - 6 dollar range.)
The sausage plate I had was good, and the three mustards (including an interesting lavendar mustard) interesting. The frites were all one could ask for from frites. The menu is limited, and it may not be an ideal restaurant for someone not interested in beer (and I'd definitely recommend the patio), but if there for the beer -- which is worth stopping in for -- the food is, imo, better than I'd expect and nor bad at all.
Good Mexican near LAX
I heard quite good things about Mariscos Chente, which is just south of the airport, and have been meaning to get there -- though I haven't yet. If you'll search this board you'll find comments about it.
(I was not happy with Paco's on Manchester the one time I've been there.)

Last Minute Monday Night
I find myself without plans for tonight. Are there any Monday night specials servings that you'd suggest, preferably on the Westside, suitable for one without a reservation, and suitable for those dining on a whim?
Seeking EL SEGUNDO restaurants for dinner w/ east coaster
I often wondered if this is good. I'll have to give it a try. (I always had cognitive dissonance, expecting Middle Eastern food because of the "mosiac" in the name, and then realizing it is Mexican. Silly, I know.)
Seeking EL SEGUNDO restaurants for dinner w/ east coaster
I wouldn't call it a destination restaurant, but I've liked the meals I've had at The Farm Stand on Main in El Segundo.

Drinks in West LA?
I like the bar at the Westside Tavern, but I wouldn't go with a client as you can't count on being able to get a seat.
Any Ludobites Reports?
Another voice echoing the above. The Breadbar version wowed me more. My favorite was the pork belly paired with the apple, and others I think liked best the veal udon. Quite flavorful but a bit too salted for my taste. I too liked the rich bread soup, and seem to have gotten a better prepared piece of bass than did Porthos. The tourte was gone, and the kitchen closed early, without warning, except for desert, soon after our waitresses had said we could wait on deciding which dish to get next. I'd hope this is an issue that gets straightened out quickly, especially as they had problems turning tables and had booked people for much later than requested. Because quickly is all the time they've got.
Nonetheless, a great eating experience, and hope there's a new incarnation soon in the new year.
Monday dinner near LAX?
Three hours isn't much time if that window is between touchdown and departure, but I'll leave you to worry about that. If it strikes your mood, there is a really good, unassuming Thai place very near the airport, Ayara Thai.
It is tucked away on 87th St, off Truxton, between La Tijera and Manchester, about a block east of Sepulveda.
