No, there were 3 of us and we sat at a table...actually the resto reminded all of
us of ones we've been to in Florence. I had reserved on OpenTable as I
always do when in the city.

Grand Central Oyster Bar has a huge selection. I was there Sunday nite about 5:30
and the noise level was tolerable. Unfortunately, our waiter wasn't. You can check
menu on-line. Fresh oysters & oyster Rock. were delicious.

Robert at the Museum of Arts & Design

Have a non-foodie guest coming into town. Took her to MOMA & lunch last year.

Thought of combining a visit to the museum along w/lunch at their resto, Robert
which will also give her a view of NY.

I am the one into food, not her & wondered if any have dined there -- or is it deemed
"too touristy".
with thanks for replies -

MOMA lunch

Was there Thurs for the FAB Henri Cartier-Bresson exhibit & we opted
to go 2 blocks to Benoit for a nice lunch...upon exiting, handed a little
bag bag w/seal with a white meringue...nice touch. Got a cuppa &
walked back to park across from MOMA to injest before re-entering MOMA.

Is there a real French restaurant in NY?

agree w/rrems. Chez Napoleon has been around forever & when my sister
(who fondly remembers mama's kidneys wanted the same) I found them here.
I suspect it doesn't get as much hype since it is hardly trendy or posh. .. sure
saves on the airfare though!!

Pre-theatre?

I'm w/drumwine; just discovered Saju Bistro (I cannot believe it was due to a Michael
Urie testimonial in Playbill!) and was so so pleasantly pleased.
Also as noted, there is a plethora of decent inexp,. restos on 9th starting about 44th
going north plus on 42 the Greek resto across from Port Authority whose name escapes me.

Sunday brunch around theater dist/Hell's Kitchen?

Thalia in the theatre district is quite popular. Not fancy, outdoor tables
in good weather albeit is on 8th ave but price is very reasonable.

Reasonably priced near Penn Station, not Korean

Niles on 87th between 30 & 31 streets is quite reasonable for lunch.
Took a client there and was able to have conversation w/o shouting.

The bar scene is up front and loud tho at nite

Restaurants.com??

Well they do work but you must carefully read the caveats for each restaurant.
They are esp. useful when one can purchase the $3 or $ 5 GC's.
In my limited experience, tho, they are never offered for 'hot' restos; rather
those that need the patrons. That being said, I have used them basically
in suburbia, not in NYC.

Kellari Taverna Review

I am a fan of the 44 Street Kellari so thought I would try Kellari Parea for friend's recent birthday lunch, advising waiter to "do something" if she orders dessert.

The spanikopita (sp) had one of the best fillings ever, the dolmas were just okay, the
salmon quite moist. However, she ordered the balavah which was delivered by
2 singing waiters AND the owner who had previously come over to introduce himself.
Then two flutes of champagne arrived w/blueberries.
Then two shots of something I can't pronounce.

Thought they went beyond the pale to appreciate their customers so I definitely
will be back.

Business Dinner near Times Square

I personally do not think dbBistro is a good fit as I find it too noisy
for a good conversation...others may disagree.
Do you just want to 'entertain' prospect or try to get some serious
conversation going?

Papillon or ??

Looking for resto in the 54th & Lex ave area for lunch (not necessarily brunch) this Saturday.
Don't know this area. Found Papillon which appears to be somewhat pedestrian. Am I
wrong?
Any inexpensive (under $20 entrees) suggestions other than Indian would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Great food near 44th & Broadway?

As I suggested on another post, Lecker, you might want to skip dessert @ Marseille
& have it at Thalia after the theatre to get a feel for the place.

Post Theater dessert?

Dessert: Another suggestion: www.restaurantthalia.com
at the corner of 50th & 8th... they are friendly to theatre-goers
who only wish to have dessert afterwards....cute place too.

Has the economy affected your NYC restaurant/food selections? [moved from Manhattan]

I am a big fan of OpenTable & what I am doing is perusing their new list of restos
that are offering double points for dining...obviously an incentive for folks that are
changing their dining habits due to the economy.
Fiscally, I'm eliminating the after-meal coffee which is usually ridiculously priced
& many times not to my palate.
