Awesome adventurous foodie anniversary in Montreal?
This is exactly the sort of recommendation we wanted. Thanks!
Raza it is. Right in our neighbor hood.
Since we both came done with stuffy noses, we have decided to postpone until we can fully appreciate. But we can't wait to try it!
Awesome adventurous foodie anniversary in Montreal?
For our foodie date night, we are just interested in the food. Atmosphere can be divey or prententious.
My definition of adventurous food is bizarre, experimental cuisine. Eclectic. Frightening even?
Think the sort of food at WD-50, in the Lower East Side. Deep fried mayonnaise cubes and deconstructed beef tongue sandwich. Foie gras and persimmons. etc.
Two New York City foodies in Montreal looking for suggestions
Let me restate:
I have NEVER been to Fairmount and gotten a cold bagel.
I was at Viateur a week ago late night (maybe 3am) and got the coldest, most unpleasant bagels. There were none in the oven. I lost my appetite. Maybe it was a fluke.
Also, my personal preference is that I like the sweetness and surfeit of seeds. But to each his own.

From one NYC Jew to another, there is no bagel debate. Smaller and tastier,Montreal bagels are far superior to NYC bagels.
Fairmount vs. Viateur? They are neck-and-neck.
Viateur has a more crunchy crust.
However, Fairmount are slightly tastier, and Fairmount's are always fresh, 24 hours a day. (Viateur doesn't have fresh bagels late night.)
Fairmount is a slight win, for me.
Get whatever is fresh out of the oven, usually sesame. Lox and creme cheese on it will cost only $5. Wow!
Montreal Chowhound map
I have been accumulating a good food locations in Montreal, along with a short quote by the person recommending that.
The idea is that if you are in a new neighborhood for the afternoon, and there is not enough time to ask for a recommendation on Chowhound, you can just go look at the map and find a good location nearby.

Would you like to help add a favorite location of yours?
Maybe add a location in an underrepresented area?
Here is how to add a location:
1. Search for the location in Google Maps.
2. Click "Save to My Maps"
3. Make sure you save to "Montreal chowhound" map.
4. Add the name of the place.
5. SAVE THE ADDRESS in the description, because someone can accidentally move the placemark.
6. Write a brief review.
ICONS:
* fork+knife for prepared food places.
* martini glass for bars and lounges.
* milk and apple for delis and markets.
I hope this becomes a valuable auxiliary resource for chowhounds!
SAQ store or Depanneur w best beer selection
There is a great dep on the north side of Laurier, just west of St. Urbain. They have the best beer selection within the Mile End. A lot of interesting local beers.
Awesome adventurous foodie anniversary in Montreal?
My girlfriend and I are going to be celebrating our three year anniversary this week.
We want some recommendations for the BEST restaurants in Montreal.
Price is not an object. However, we are foodies and prefer quality over pretension (obviously).
We also would prefer something adventurous.
Your thoughts?
Montreal sushi?
We are from New York. My recommendation is skip the sushi, and go for "authentic".
Given your recommendations, in Montreal you may like:
* Dieu du Ciel, a little more Medieval than Blind Tiger, with everything brewed right there. Obviously subjective, but try Summer Soltice, a sour p-lambic; the rose hibiscus; and whatever cask ale they have.
* Social Club, an authentic Italian coffee shop. Not as good as Ninth Street Espresso, but awesome atmosphere.
* Chez Claudette for poutine. Their galvaude (chicken and peas) is far superior to La Banquise, larger meat pieces. But La Banquise does have a much more authentic atmosphere, so maybe prefer that.
* Schwartz's. Again, inferior to Katz's, but the atmosphere is authentic.
* Haven't been to Pied au Cochon yet. Can't recommend it either way.
<= $35 near Baldwin Street, Downtown?
Thanks for the suggestions. This is for dinner and yes, chinatown is too far unfortunately.
<= $35 near Baldwin Street, Downtown?
I am here for a conference. Inevitably, the group wants to walk to Baldwin Street, Downtown, just a little south of UToronto.
What are the best---or, at the least, not terrible---places within a four block radius that will cost under $35 per person, tax and tip included?
Thanks!
