Locavore food & bakeries in Arlington/DC--where?
Hello wonderful Chowhound folks!
My family and I are headed to Arlington/ DC area in the next week and are searching for a few good places to eat. Looking for places with fresh, local fare...extra credit if good vegetarian options. We will have our kids with us (ages 3 & 7), so nothing too fancy--but they are well-behaved. We love all kinds of food, just picky about where ingredients are coming from, so looking for some advice from locals.
Also, best bakeries?
Thanks so much for your time!
Best Sandwich in the Triangle?
Thoughts? Looking for a great sandwich--bonus points if it's in Raleigh, so I don't have to drive as far. Something super-delicious and satisfying, something that makes you think, "That's the best sandwich I've ever had!"
The best one I've had so far was at Alon's in Atlanta: Air-cured beef, grilled fennel, shaved parmesan and pink peppercorn dressing on ciabatta.
But there's got to be something to top that around here--I'm on a quest & would love some guidance.
Thanks!
Caprese sandwich in Triangle area, NC?

Looking for something fresh, yummy and fantastic bread--thoughts?
Thanks in advance!
Portland-near Lloyd Center
Hello always-helpful-Chowhound folk!
Will be staying in Portland (2 adults, 2 kids--2 & 6) for almost a week. We are staying at a hotel in Lloyd District. Will be travelling all over, but wondering if anyone has any great suggestions for yummy, fresh food in the area--walking distance or nearby.
We will have a car and roam around. I figured I scan the boards for not-to-miss restaurants and bakeries, but wondering about the area around the hotel when I just have a quick moment to grab a bite (will be spending 2-3 days in hotel for conference), as I can't generally stand hotel food.
Anything great in the area? If you feel like throwing any other must-sees elsewhere in the city it would be appreciated. We are particularly fond of bakeries, and inexpensive-but-yummy hole-in-the-wall places.
Thanks in advance!!
Asheville - help us cut one from our list
Definitely consider adding the Admiral. We went a couple weeks ago and it was wonderful--drinks, food--great!
What's New in Chapel Hill?
Ooo, I totally agree. I wanted soo to like Sugarland too. But cold cupcakes: yuck. And the frosting literally tasted like I was biting into cold butter. When I took the first bite, the entire frosting blob lifted up off the cupcake and slid into my lap--still fully intact. Boo. so disappointed. Coffee was okay though, and it's a pretty shop.
Dannys BBQ Cary NC
Definitely FL BBQ, very similar to Sonny's. We go there to get the mustard-style BBQ sauce. It's good for that. Aside from the food, the staff at the Cary restaurant is really friendly and it's a great family spot. I do always fee like the place good be a little cleaner though.
Asheville: Best Saturday morning farmers market?
Thoughts? Is there one main market to hit or several? Also are there any organic pick-your-own farms happening right now (6/5/09)? Thanks for your help!
Best Bakery in Atlanta?
Love Chowhound! You all gave me such great info on farmer's markets, I just had to ask about bakeries too...
Where should we go for great, homemade bread, cupcakes and other goodies? Just looking for best, quality baked goods. Maybe it's not even a storefront, but a saturday morning farmer's market vendor....just want to not waste time unless it's amazing, you know?
Thoughts?
Thanks in advance! You guys are awesome!
Classy, vegetarian friendly restaurants in Asheville?
Early Girl is the best--not strictly vegetarian, but lots o' options.
Best Banana Pudding in the Triangle?
Big Ed's, in downtown raleigh or Danny's BBQ off Tryon Rd in Cary (a hidden gem).
Atlanta--Farmer's Markets?
Hello Everybody,
Heading to Atlanta this coming weekend and want to go to a Farmer's Market. Is there a good one? Looking for great organic, local produce and quality baked goods--is there such a market? How about eateries? Anything that uses fresh, local ingredients--slow food kind of stuff. Any suggestions that are not crazy expensive or fancy (we'll have the kids with us) would be most appreciated.
Thanks!

Seattle bakery: Can't remember the name...Help!
Hello folks,
I need a food dectective! :
A couple years ago I went to this amazing little french bakery in Seattle. I had the hands-down most f%#@ing amazing croissant--life altering good! I just can't remember the name. It was not too far from the zoo & I think also in the same basic area of one of the Cupcake Royales. It had great coffee and I think it had an attached sandwich shop. We went on an early Sunday morning and it was the only place open anywhere on the block (which it is in the middle of--on a fairly big street)--on Sunday mornings. I think it is known for the croissants & I'm pretty sure it was a french name.
Thoughts anyone? I need to find it again, always remember it, perhaps have it tattooed on my arm--j/k ;o)
Thanks!
Tucson: Farmer's Markets/CSAs?
Visiting the area, & thinking of moving--how are farmer's markets in the area? Is there organic produce/meats available, especially for CSAs? Do you have to go to Whole Foods to get organic food? Also, I'm not from the southwest...is it impossible to have a vegetable garden in the Tucson climate?
Any opinions are great! Thanks!
Las Vegas: Good organic markets or CSA?
Will be visiting the area soon, thinking of moving to Vegas & wondering how organic produce farmer's markets and CSAs are in the area? Is this common in the area, or difficult to find? Do I have to go to Whole Foods to find organic produce?
Thanks for any help!
San Diego: Best Food Neighborhood?
THANKS SO MUCH! You guys are awesome! This was really helpful! We will probably be renting for a bit until we figure out how to avoid--things are SO much more expensive than in the South, but all your great info has me really excited. Thank you! Thank you!
San Diego: Best Food Neighborhood?
We are new to the area and looking for a neighborhood to relocate to. We are looking for a part of town that is very walkable and has the best fresh food and shopping (farmer's markets and stores)...bonus points if it's kid-friendly. Where do the foodies live? We are just from the east coast and totally clueless about the area. We would prefer to live downtown-ish, but if there is a suburb that fits this bill we're open.
THANKS for any help!
New to Nashville...ethnic? off the beaten path?
Try Alley Cat--not much for decor, but food is great! Get the "fat ball" appetizer: avocado stuffed with salsa, covered in cornmeal and deep fried....heaven.
