Vegan-friendly SF dinner with non-vegans?

Looking for a nice hip place for dinner in San Francisco with great food and cocktails that can accommodate a vegan diner in our party. Any tips appreciated. Thanks!

Oh, and not Millennium please! We don't want to go there.

Fresh goose in Bay Area?

Where can I find a fresh goose to cook for Christmas? Any local producers? I saw the thread from last year, but looks like that person stopped raising geese.

Thanks!

Shamrock Shake leads in SF?

Anyone know at McDonald's in SF that has the Shamrock Shake today? Thanks!

Dinner recs with excellent cocktails in SF tonight

Going out for dinner with a friend from out of town. Looking for great food, and excellent cocktails. Been to NOPA, been to Presidio Social Club, Absinthe, Heaven's Dog so looking to try a different place. Okay if it's on the pricey side. Thanks!

Need a glass punch ladle quickly in SF

I've already been to the store. They only carry the ladle online.

Need a glass punch ladle quickly in SF

I need a glass punch ladle quickly. I'm in a punch contest this Saturday and mine broke. I looked online and they are surprisingly hard to find. I could get one shipped from Bed, Bath and Beyond, but would prefer not to pay for overnight shipping on a $5 item.

Where in San Francisco can I buy one? Thanks!

Fee Bros. Whiskey Barrel bitters

Thanks, I ended up calling around and Blackwell's had them. If anyone else wants them, they have 5 bottles left.

Fee Bros. Whiskey Barrel bitters

I'm making a punch and a special cocktail for my holiday party that call specifically for Fee Bros. Whiskey Barrel bitters. I know that they are produced seasonally and as their site says, "When they're gone, they're gone." I checked at Cask and they were out. I tried ordering online from DiBruno Bros., but just got a call that their website was wrong and they are out of stock too. Has anyone spotted them anywhere in SF or online where they haven't sold out yet? Thanks!

Looking for quail eggs in SF or Marin

Thanks for the tip. If anyone has seen them at grocery stores such as Whole Foods, Calmart, Bryan's, Andronico's, etc please let me know. If I went to Chinatown it would be a separate special trip and I was hoping to pick them up while doing my other holiday food shopping. Thanks!

Suggestions for lunch with cocktails & good food

I am going tomorrow for a rare lunch outing with a friend while I'm off this week. Any suggestions for a lunch place with good food and cocktails that are worth the $ we'll be shelling out? Oh, in San Francisco. Thanks!

Holiday dinner in Marin?

My friends and I have December birthdays and have gotten into the tradition of going out for a special dinner during this month. We're teachers, so don't want to break the bank, but we like someplace festive with great cocktails and food. We've done Trader Vic's (the original location in Emeryville), Fork in San Anselmo, and a couple times, The Buckeye Roadhouse. We'd like to try someplace new this year, preferably within 15 minutes or so of San Rafael (doesn't have to BE in San Rafael). Any suggestions? Must have good cocktails, no beer and wine only (we're teachers, remember?)! Thanks!

where in the heck can you get a good sandwich in sf?

I was just talking about this topic the other day with my husband. My favorite place in SF to get an awesome sandwich is in my old hood, the lower Haight, at Estela's Fresh Sandwiches (formerly Big Sherm's). It's a tiny little place on Fillmore at Haight. Their sandwiches are truly kick ass. They could definitely open more locations, I'm sure it would be popular, but I guess they just like being mellow. It's a mom-and-pop operation for sure. My faves are the brie sandwich and my recent discovery, their Tuna #2 an albacore tune with fresh herbs, artichoke spread, pepperoncini, feta cheese, tomato, red onion & pea sprouts on telera bread. It sounds like an odd combo, but man is it delicious! My ol' man digs their Smokey Sherm - smoked turkey, smoked gouda, bbq sauce, lettuce, tomato, red onion & pickles on telera. Check out their menu at http://www.menukarma.com/menus/menu-for-estelas-fresh-sandwiches-in-san-francisco. Oh and I always forget this, but they are closed on Sundays.

Childhood Food Memories - Jersey shore

I was born in 1972 in Long Branch, NJ and some of my earliest restaurant food memories are of going to the Careless Navigator in the Highlands. I remember ordering the same thing every time - a sandwich called the Lookout's Discovery. It was some kind of open faced sandwich consisting of a seafood salad topped with melted cheese and bacon bits. Anyway, I still think of it once in awhile even though the last time I had one was probably over 20 years ago. I'm assuming the restaurant is no longer around, but since I'll be back visiting NJ in July I though I'd check. I also remember going to the Clam Hut, but don't recall much about the food. Any info on these two restaurants much appreciated.

Three organic eggnogs -- a comparison

My vote: Straus all the way! How I like it best: Crushed ice, lots, big splash of bourbon and freshly grated nutmeg to top it off. Add fresh Christmas tree and light the fire and I am SET. Yessiree...Mama likes her some eggnog.

Egg Nog?

I don't know of any bars or restaurants for my eggnog jones. BUT, I start my official eggnog season on Thanksgiving Day, since I like to stretch it as long as possible. After trying many of the eggnogs in the supermarket, I found the Straus Family Creamery's excellent version. Mama likes her some eggnog and in my opinion, this is the best apart from making it from scratch yourself. Those Straus cows are some happy cows, you bet. Anyway, my recipe is lots of crushed ice, Straus eggnog and a healthy splash of bourbon with some freshly grated nutmeg on top. And sometimes I go more traditional with the rum. Either way this is what I opt for as my holiday indulgence.

Where to buy black truffle paste in SF?

Making a T-Day recipe that requires black truffle paste. I know they had it at Woodland's in Marin a couple years ago, but prefer to buy in the city. Any tips? Also, any preferences or info on brands?

best place to buy fresh pasta?

Where's the best place in SF to buy freshly made pasta? Any good place in North Beach? Not a restuarant, but to take home and cook.

Cheese Classes and/or Tours

Go to Tomales Bay Foods in Pt. Reyes and take the tour at Cowgirl Creamery. They have a website where you can get more info. Afterwards you can drive to the Marin French Cheese Company on the way to Petaluma and take their tour too.

Top 10 Tastes of California

I went to Stanford from '91 to '95 and as a poor student I would splurge at the Peninsula Creamery. It's 50s style diner, nothing fancy. Their milkshakes are awesome and I always loved their chili dog. Their bread pudding is great too and you can drink a Green River soda.

Ferry Plaza - yes, and buy some cheese from Cowgirl Creamery. I'm a cheese geek and addict and they have a great selection. Taylor's Automatic Refresher is here too and is super, try the Miss Kentucky. I prefer the original St.Helena location for ambiance, but you may not have the time to get out there.

In n' Out - yes, you have to at least try it once. Get the Double Double Animal Style.
