Dallas Restaurant Advice (5pm on Saturday)
Thank you very much; I think we are going to give Samar a try, looks very interesting! Thanks again!
Dallas Restaurant Advice (5pm on Saturday)
Hi all,
My friends are in town for an event in Dallas later this month at the American Airlines Center (first time in Dallas). The event is at 6.30pm, so unfortunately we are limited to restaurants that begin dinner service at 5pm on Saturdays; 5.30pm would be cutting it too close I believe.
Capital Grill and Ocean Prime are both available at that time, but neither of those really excite me.
Unfortunately, places like Nonna, Craft and Abacus don't serve dinner at 5pm.
Would you have any recommendations for a great foodie spot on a Saturday at 5pm? We don't want to be too far away from Downtown. Any leads would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Symcha's?
Has anyone been to this new restaurant in Miami Beach? Any thoughts?
I also can't seem to be able to locate a menu anywhere. Please post a link if you have it.
Many thanks.
Question about Eleven Madison Park
That is definitely my plan. Going to NYC in April to meet up with a former college buddy, will def use that opportunity to try EMP. Sounds delicious!
Question about Eleven Madison Park
Scarpetta it is, thanks guys!

Question about Eleven Madison Park
Pretty picky overall...
For example...no foie gras, no crustaceans (lobster, shrimp, etc...), no scallops or mussels, tho she can eat tuna (including raw) and most white fish cooked.....not huge vegetable fan, but she will eat some...
In fact, it would probably be easier to list the things she DOES like.... chicken, beef, veal, pork, bacon, tomato, most cheeses, cooked onions....
I could probably flush it out more, but that sort of gives you an idea, it's not just one or two things that she avoids, the list is much longer...
I wonder if it's even worth trying to contact EMP as I don't want to come off as a jack*ss...we may be better off at a place with a more traditional menu?
It's a shame, because I'm a very adventurous eater :)
Question about Eleven Madison Park
Thanks very much for the replies. I will go ahead and contact the restaurant to find out how flexible they are in accommodating my wife's preferences.
Assuming EMP is a no go, we are thinking of Babbo, Scarpetta or Jean Georges (a la carte). I know JG is very different from the first two, but any recommendations out of the three? Is Babbo's food as rustic as the menu sounds?

Question about Eleven Madison Park
Hi,
So my wife and I are in NY for her birthday. We are having dinner one night at the River Cafe. We have another dinner planned and we're thinking of Eleven Madison Park.
My wife is a very picky eater so we usually try avoid restaurants that offer tastings menu. However, it seems like Eleven Madison Park could work for her given the apparent flexibility when ordering. Before trying to make reservations, I'm trying to understand how flexible the kitchen will be with my wife's preferences. Will she be able to give her preferences and dislikes for each dish/main ingredient without driving the waiter/waitress insane? I'm just trying to get a sense.
Also is the flexibility of preferences/dislikes only available when ordering the 4-course dinner, or is it also available when doing the tastings menu?
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Restaurant with a Great City View (Dinner)?
Hi,
My wife and I will be in NYC for her birthday. I am looking for a restaurant that will provide a great city view at night, with also very good/great food.
I've looked at Asiate, but based on what I saw and given its location (overlooking the park), it would seem that the views would best be enjoyed during the day and not a night. Or am I mistaken?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Question about BLT Steak
Hi all,
I've been to BLT Steak once and really enjoyed it (the food and the vibe; very different than the usual steakhouse feel). I have a cousin coming into town that loves steak and would like to take her to BLT Steak. However, I know for a fact that she does not like "charred" styled steak. Would it be possible to order a steak at BLT and tell them to hold the "char" or is that not even possible given the way they cook their steaks? I know it's an out there question, but any help would be appreciated. I guess I could always call up the restaurant.
Many thanks.
Spaghetti Carbonara
Hi all,
I've been looking around for some places that serve up good pasta carbonara in DC. Anyone have any recs besides La Perla? I looked at Bibiana's menu, and they don't do carbonara. Same with Tosca.
Thanks!
Joe's Stone Crab - Dress Code
Hi all,
I'm planning on going to Joe's Stone Crab next Wed (day before thxgiving). This is our first time there. I noticed that there is a dress code.
For men, would a nice pair of jeans work with a nice polo or button down, or are dress slacks + button down shirt a "must"?
Thanks!
Need Sushi Rec for Tonight (NOVA)
Thanks for the reply. How was the sashimi/nigiri at Y, if you had it. Thx!
The place looks great, I'm just a little concerned about some of the reviews which indicate that rolls are their speciality, and that the sashimi/nigiri is so-so.
Need Sushi Rec for Tonight (NOVA)
Hi all,
A friend is in town and staying in Alexandria. We're looking for a sushi spot in NOVA if possible, with great sashimi. I've been to Taichibana, while it is good, was hoping to try something new.
I was leaning towards Yamazato, but apparently they specialize in rolls, and we're looking for great quality fish, sashimi instead. Any suggestions? Momo in Old Town?
Any help would be much appreciated! Should we just stick with Taichibana? Thanks
If necessary, we'll drive a bit further out.
Crillon or Ritz Sunday Brunch?
If you had to choose, which one would you pick? The Ritz is about 40 Euros more per person, but appears to have great variety (even has sushi from what I understand).
Any thoughts/personal experiences? Thanks.
Restaurant Recs in Paris
Thanks for the tip. Actually, I'm originally from France and am fluent in the language. I lived in Paris for several years, but never frequented restaurants much (except local sandwich places, couscous and chinese), that's why I'm trying to get advice on this board. So language barrier would not be an issue nor would the tourist issue. However, although I'm French, that doesn't mean that I like the "attitude" service (and trust me, I know exactly what you're talking about). So we'll probably skip Ternes and hit la Rotonde for the filet.
If you guys have suggestions for a splurge, a la carte dinner, let me know. I'm really bummed that Guy Savoy is closed, looks great!
Thanks again.
Restaurant Recs in Paris
Hi all,
Thanks to the advice on this board, I've booked Christmas Eve dinner at Bofinger. I also have a 55 Euro lunch lined up at La Table, and also plan on going to La Rotisserie d'en face for some rottisserie chicken. We are also considering Kong for a hip night out.
I still have a couple of questions that I hope you can assist me with. My wife and I are looking for a restaurant that serves really good filet mignon (the american meaning, i.e., filet of beef, not pork). My wife is a fairly picky eater, and loves Filet Mignon. Do you have any suggestions?
We are also still looking for a venue for our splurge dinner. Guy Savoy will be closed, unfortunately. If possible, we would like to avoid a super stuffy atmosphere where jackets/tie are required (nice slacks and nice dress shirt), but this may be difficult I know, so it's not a must. If any such restaurants have great filet mignon dishes, then that would be great so we could kill 2 birds with one stone. Any splurge dinner restaurant would have to have a la carte (again, because of my wife's limited tastes). We would be in Paris, December 24-31.
Thanks so much for reading, and I appreciate any of your opinions/recs.
Paris restaurant suggestions (Christmas Eve and beyond)
Thanks very much for the info.
We had booked a reservation at Bofinger for Christmas Eve, but will look at your suggestions. You're right, most of the fancy places have set menus. I would think that a place like Bofinger would be a la carte (though I couldn't confirm with the restaurant).
My S.O. is quite picky and not too adventurous when it comes to food. She really likes beef tenderloin/steak, which I assume/hope Bonfinger will have on the menu. If you have any other suggestions for places with good steak, let me know!
I will definitely check out L'Atelier when we're there.
Thanks for the tips!
Paris restaurant suggestions (Christmas Eve and beyond)
Hi all,
I plan on being in Paris during Christmas time, for 7 nights and I have a couple of questions.
Does anyone have suggestions for Christmas Eve dinner? I see that Meurice has a special menu, but it may be a bit too stuffy (atmosphere wise). I was looking for something a bit less formal (although budget is not really the issue for this night). Any suggestions? My significant other is a little picky, so a la carte (or options) would be preferable to a limited, fixed menu.
Beyond that, for the rest of the week, do you guys have any suggestions; restaurants that we must/should go to (they don't have to be all top end places). Is Kong worth checking out??
I know that this is a bit open ended, but any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks much!
PS7's or 1789 this weekend?
I know that these two choices are worlds apart (1789 is jacket required and more old school), but we are considering hitting up one of them over the weekend. Both have specials (1789 has the coupon special, and PS7's has a RW menu).
Having not been to either place yet, which one should we choose? I heard that 1789 just got a new 24-year old chef, Daniel Gusti, so I'm not sure how this has changed things at the restaurant, if at all.
Thanks!

Proof - Dress code?
Hi all,
Heading to Proof tomorrow night and was wondering what the dress code is at this place. Would a nice pair of jeans and polo (ralph lauren/lacost type) or a button down be appropriate, or are most people wearing at least slacks and a dress shirt?
Thanks!
