Something Unique In Palm Springs Kinda hard to answer without more info. Definitely unique, a cheap dive with excellent food Sherman's Deli & Bakery Norma's or Mister Parkers The last is expensive but unique. The first two are cheap and unique and more for breakfast/lunch. |

Decent barbecue, the restaurant is huge so would have no problem seating your group even without a reservation. State Line |

People always mention Chico's Tacos and L&J just because they are famous. It certainly isn't for the quality of their food. Chico's in particular is awful. L&J is okay but primarily a bar. Besides Mexican which is everywhere Clock Family Restaurant Al-Zaituna (Turkish) Pho Tre Bien (Vietnamese) Saigon Taste Restaurant (Vietnamese |

Unfortunately Melissa will win since she is a mindless airhead cheerleader and a blonde clone of Rachel Ray. |

Sherman's is a better deli than Manhattan in the Desert. |

Chico's is awful, soupy salsa and small deep fried taquitos made only with beef. |

Anyone been to Dink's in Palm Springs? It's okay but overpriced. Avoid the small plates (tapas), they are a complete ripoff. |

Cheap and good in Palm Springs? I like El Gallito but not Pomme Frite. Pomme Frite may be okay for mussels and Belgian beer but I felt ripped off there, over $20 for 4 medium sized scallops and crappy service is too much. Another Mexican dive with good food is |

Cheap and good in Palm Springs? Rick's is good for breakfast. It is on Palm Canyon on the north end of town. Sherman's deli is good for lunch. Some people like the Rock Garden. It is very cheap and has a breakfast buffet. I think its just okay. |

Rent a car, about 5 miles away is downtown Redlands which is a charming small town with excellent restaurants along State Street and Orange Street. |

Lunch Options Palm Springs/I-10 area? If you can continue on another 40 minutes, downtown Redlands has half a dozen very good restaurants. The main street, State Street is only six blocks from the I-10 |

Mysterious Sicknesses at Fat Duck affect 400 Norovirus would indicate poor hygiene at the Fat Duck and its not very silly. Usually it doesn't cause vomiting, however which is one of the symptoms that patrons have reported. I bet the sickness is due to some weird molecular gastronomy chemical reaction that was not expected. |

Downtown SB is pretty dicy and I personally would not want to go there by bus. Around the Hilton there are a lot of chain restaurants. There's a Japanese place adjacent to the Hilton that isn't bad. |

Driving from Palm Springs to Santa Clara The suggestions above are convenient only if you are staying in Palm Desert or Rancho Mirage. In Palm Springs for breakfast Rick's is good and cheap (Norma's is good and expensive). There is very little to choose from once you get past LA which is only an hour and a half from Palm Springs. About the only decent place is Harris Ranch in Coalinga. |

1) I-10 but take the Phoenix bypass to avoid the traffic. This goes down to the I-8 just west of Phoenix and over to Tucson. Are you driving it in a single day? Its 12 hours. 2) Not much past Palm Springs until Phoenix or Tucson. Post on the Southwest boards for suggestions there. |

I didn't mean to sound snarky about "real" Mexican food. I have had excellent food inside Mexico. However, virtually everytime I've been there I've also gotten sick since I don't bother to avoid the water, etc. Also, within Mexico the food varies widely according to the region. Once reason I suggested Casa Maya is that it is Yucatan style which you don't find that often even in LA. |

It means that you get the worst Mexican food in Mexico. You get far better Mexican food in the USA since the quality of the ingredients is better. Menu at Burritos, tacos, carnitas, enchiladas. Yep definitely not Mexican. |
|

I always find it amusing when people denigrate Tex-Mex or Southwestern Mexican food. Why not go for the real Mexican food like you get in Mexico? If you are lucky you will get turista too. For Yucatan Mexican food Casa Maya in Mentone is very good. For Mexican seafood, as well as tradtitional Mexican food, La Costa in Mentone is also very good. |
