Coconut candy craving!!!

Hi everyone!! Last week one of my co-workers brought in this bag of pastel colored sweetened young coconut meat that I have tried searching for.

The bag itself is very no frills, so I don't really have much to go on. My co-worker got this stuff from her manicurist, but they live somewhere in the Bronx and I am on the Bushwick/Ridgewood border.

This is the info that I could get off of the bag:

K Fat Inc.
"Sweetened Young Coconut Meat"
Mut Dua Non

If anyone knows where I can get this addicting sweet treat, I would be so appreciative. I am hoping to get to the Asian supermarkets in Elmhurst sometime within the next 2 weeks, but if anyone can ease the search, that would be great.

Thanks!!!!

chow places around 57th & 1st

Julz124: My apologies, but I HAVE to thumbs down on Bruce's. The place is the size of a cubicle and the las time I went there, not only were their cupcakes grossly overpriced for their size, but terribly dense, dry and barely had a hint of the taste of whatever flavor they were supposed to be. Not to mention the fact that they were pretty rude, grumbling when I was trying to make my selections, then shoving the bag at me.

And with my 2 cents, for simple, kitschy stuff I've gone with Go Noodle on 1st bet. 58th and 59th. Good prices and they're not stingy, but no-frills. Ritz Diner on 1st and 62nd is good for basic diner stuff, too.
Though for good bakery stuff to pick up, I would even suggest Hot & Crusty on 2nd and 63rd-ish. Their filled croissants are good and I could practically live on their ham-and-swiss croissants.

Oh, and JaneA, reading your post was like my daily walk from my bus stop at E 57 and 1st to work at 62nd and York. Haha!

Chicken dumplings???

Hey everyone! My GF has developed an intolerance to pork and anything related to it within the past 6-9 months so we've been looking for other alternatives.

Does anyone know where I can get frozen chicken dumplings that are similar to gyoza style dumplings made with the thin skins? I used to get the frozen ones from that little shack down on Mosco but since obviously they are made with pork....

And while I'm at it, how about chinese-style chicken dumplings, those with the thicker dumpling skins? Thanks!

Thai/Asian food fairs and festivals?

Hey everyone, maybe someone can help! Does anyone know of any food fairs or festivals going on in Chinatown during the rest of the summer?

I remember many many moons ago when my parents and their friends would drag us kids to a Thai food festival and was wondering if any of these were still in existence. I am Thai, so obviously while younger, I hated Thai food. Now that I'm older, I'm finding my own way. Mom's cooking is still the best though!

Thanks in advance!!

Bread pudding?

Kings Plaza Diner has a bread pudding that has me going back every summer for more. Their puddin' has such luscious and sauce ssturated chunks of Challah with the most glorious blobs of smooth custard equally abundant throughout. I, personally, could do without the canned peaches and pineapple that they put atop, but that still hasn't stopped me for almost 10 years!
