Korean fried chicken in CT?
The only place that used to have it was Margot's Cafe in Stamford. They had Korean style fried chicken wings. She'd been to Unidentified Flying Chicken in Queens, NY ,fell in love with them and did her version. Basically they were marinated, dipped in a coating, fried twice and brushed with a special sauce.
New Mexican Restaurant In Downtown Stamford?
Sorry to say, but it's awful. Granted I went there right after it opened but it was very clear that the food was very commercial, not authentic. And it wasn't even good-bad like junky Tex-Mex, it was just a big nothing and not cheap. The place is huge and as any local knows, has turned over many times. I don't see a great future for this reincarnation.
Western Fairfield County CT - Anyone Home; Where are the posters
I moved to NYC. Haven't missed Fairfield County's dining scene in the least. Pizza, burgers and a lot of overpriced mediocre food. I feel like I died and went to heaven.
Stamford, Ct- Solo Midweek Dining
Aria- nasty egomaniac owner.
Paradise- more for cocktails and water view.
Napa- best in town.
Barcelona- good but very noisy.
Stamford is limited, Greenwich or New Canaan are better bets.
Any place like Otto enoteca in Ct?
Also try Strada 18 in South Norwalk. Though different from Otto, the pizzas are terrific, good wine list, nice- fresh appetizers and a NY sensibility with the menu in general as opposed to the typical Fairfield Cty. pizza joint.

Quattro Pazzi coming to Downtown Stamford
Those questions on the ad are too much! Wonder if it's working for them.
By the way- The Advocate is suffers from poor communication within it's own organization. They are probably still sending Sabatiello's bills while still publising the ad.
Duo in Stamford?
Went by last night (Saturday) and it was dead as a door nail. Last year people on this board couldn't get enough of it. What happened?
Real, athentic omakase sushi experience wanted near Westport, CT
Real, authentic Omakase experience? NYC, sorry. Not Fairfield County.
New in SoNo - Las Orchetas
This place has been there for years and is a neighborhood Columbian bakery-quick food working people type of place. It's fast and cheap with no atmosphere or booze but a great little place to know of. SoNo needs to keep some of these places for the residents who can't afford all the newer fancier restaurants.
ps- you all are a tough crowd and need to lighten up a bit on the M.of L chick!
Finally some decent Chinese in Stamford- Tengda
Many boards have discussed the sorry lack of good Chinese food in Stamford. Recently I have tried takeout from Tengda twice. It was the Republic Grill on Bedford St. and changed hands practically overnight. It looks the same and uses the same menu for now.
The good new is that we finally have a place where the food tastes fresh and does not have gloppy sauces. I have stuck to the Chinese and Thai stuff so far but my group and I were very pleased. The prices are also in line with everyone else's. Give it a try.
Top Sushi in Fairfield County???
I would add that though I have not been in a little while, Kazu in Norwalk was always good too.
SONO Baking Company (CT) gets some well deserved press
Sorry- didn't have time to look up specifics yesterday- here it is:
Fairfield Bread. Co. - can find info and order at http://www.ctffe.com
Ross' Bread 109 Danbury Rd.
Have heard very nice things about Isabel et Vincent, but have not gotten there yet.
SONO Baking Company (CT) gets some well deserved press
Word is she's working and teaching in NYC.
SONO Baking Company (CT) gets some well deserved press
Sono's not the only game in town anymore. There's a fabulous bread bakery in Ridgefield now as well as a new guy in Fairfield (names escape me). Though sono bakery is good, in my opinion the cafe slid into second priority once Margot left.
Is Aria in Stamford worth the visit??
To expand on my original answer, of a definite no on Aria, my opinion was also mainly based on Stefano and his ego that can barely fit in that dining room. Not only was he pretentious but he stayed WAY too long at our table yakking away about himself and being very disrespectful to one of our party who happened to be a restaurant owner. The food was ok- but very soured by the experience.
As for Telluride- give it another try. It's not cheap but the food is good and if you are over 30 you wont' feel out of your element if you go in for a cocktail later.
Top 10 - Western & Eastern FFD County
Yup, I remember those days too. You might be referring to the Bridge Grill that was downtown. Definitely for the kids.
Places like Viva Zapata and Boxcar Cantina are fine for what they are. A couple of decent Margaritas (used to love the V.Zapata ones served in the jars, occasionally took them with me back in the day). Cheesy nachos, basic stuff. Decent atmosphere.
Top 10 - Western & Eastern FFD County
I went to Boxcar Cantina for the first time in years. I was looking for a good Margarita and they had one. I find them increasingly hard to find. The food is fresh and tasty- Tex Mex. Nothing that I would think of as really authentic Mexican but it was absolutely fine. The place is cute- I like the darker room by the bar better and the service was a little confused but friendly.
Chinatown-style Chinese near Stamford?
No way. Sorry, in Fairfield county you will find nothing of that caliber. We have good choices for Indian food but still not Chinese. Go to Flushing, I agree!
Like Napa & Co, but not Napa
Market is definitely not of that caliber. Pricewise yes, quality no. Nor is Chez Jean Pierre. Have always heard great things about Schoolhouse. Used to go to The Homestead a lot and always had great food and service but honestly it's been a few years. I have a personal dislike for Aria and Emme of Capri also. Considering the economic climate both owners could be a little less arrogant, but that's just me.
Also- I hate to put a damper on the evening but Valentine's Day like New Year's Eve is such a rip-off in the restaurant business. I know this from experience behind the scenes. But if you must- I think your options are better in New Canaan and Greenwich.
New Korean BBQ in Stamford: Egane
What we really need is a Korean chicken wing place such as UFC or Bon Ton , both in NY. They are cheap and booty-licious!
Jfood visits Colony Grill - Quite a Pie (long)
I would agree about the salt but I guess it's easier to add salt than remove it for those who don't want it.
Never having tried it till just a few months back, I think that Colony is a fabulous value. It's clean, the service is friendly and efficient, they do their one thing and do it well. My son and I had a hot oil pie, a beer for me, a coke for him and it was less than $20.
I know I'll piss some people off but after 23 years here I still think that in many ways Stamford is a town with simple and unsophisticated tastes. We are now lucky to have places such as Napa and good ethnic food but I've seen so many good places that really tried and failed.
For better or worse, Colony is a Stamford classic. Compared to the numerous mediocre and overpriced places here, I for one am glad to have them.
Black Stone Steak House in Norwalk - anyone been?
Yes, I have been there.
When I was there it was maybe a third full in the front. My feeling is that when it fills up it can get very noisy. That's just a pet peeve of mine.
There is also a full bar in back and another dining area which you would not realize upon first entering.
From what I recall the food was pretty good except for one major flaw. Being that it is a steak house the steak should be perfect. We ordered the chateubriand for two and the inside was raw, and I mean raw, when we ordered medium rare. Being that it is a large cut of meat (and a beautiful one I might add) getting inside the center is tricky without over cooking the edges. It was a shame. I really hate sending food back so we kind of ate around it.
Desserts seem to be purchased elsewhere and nothing was real appealing. Not a whole lot of selection of wine by the glass either. It was a "we have chardonnay, pinot grigio, cabernet and pinot noir" type of answer from our server.
In general it was good, not knock your socks off. Not cheap either but that is expected at steak houses. All this is fixable and they need someone on the line who knows more about how to cook meat.
Stamford lunch places
Tried takeout from Precious recently and as much as I don't like to dis particular restaurants on here, let's just say it definitely is no improvement on an already dismal Chinese food scene in Stamford. Recent decent experience was Wild Ginger and had like Republic Grill but it appears to have changed to Tengda now.
Route 15 - am I driving right past some great chow-worthy places?
Southbound? Keep going till NYC.
Smokey Joe's on Darien/Stamford border closing?
i'm in that minority too, stevel. The caliber of restaurants just stays the same here except for a small handfull. Too many mediocre, overpriced places. In NY you can get anything, anytime- most of it great AND even delivered!
Goya olive oil in 3 L cans ??
It requires a membership (a la Costco) but if you know anyone who might use Restaurant Depot perhaps they can look for you. Have any friends in the restaurant/catering business?
kielbasa in Fairfield County
There is a Polish market on East Main in the same strip mall that Myrna's is in.
Le Pain Quotidien to Open in New Canaan
Yes, LPQ has a cookbook. Maybe you can find it there.
fresh turkey FFld county
Any suggestions where I should order a fresh organic turkey from for Thanksgiving? Specifically in the Stamford/Greenwich/New Canaan area. Thanks.
