La Boniche Lowell Ma
Thanks kmetzaholic I will check it out and reconsider Sat evening
La Boniche Lowell Ma
I just read about this place online - would it be good for spec dinner for 8-10 is it cramped or really noisy on sat nite? Parking a challenge?
Casa Romero?
I read about it online Papagayo somewhere and saw some pictures - it looked like it might be fun for a college kid, but food must be decent. (Group isn't into the Border Cafe/Margaritas type junk they pass off as Mexican!) We detest Margaritas chain...Mezcal in Worchester wasn't bad but again we'll be in Boston. I liked C. Romero; It wasn't five star but it wasn't horrid, had decent Tamales in there about 15 years ago..LOL I'll look into Rosa Mexicano & Sol Azteca as alternatives to C. Romero. Thanks!
Casa Romero?
Haven't been to C.R. in five years but I want to take a group out for a small party (10 or so) and guest of honor (college kid) loves Mexican...(true mexican not so much Tex Mex.) We will be in Boston so I'd like it a place there or close by...Sox are in town that eve, so I'm staying away from Verdad - it's a little too casual for what I'm looking for although I liked the food. Papaguyo sounded interesting but I need the opinion of my fellow chows!
Other Mexican places the "chows" would give a thumbs up? Please advise
So Disappointed at Italian choices on North Shore
fyi- Tuscan Kitchen (Salem, NH) and Joseph's Trattoria in Ward Hill/Haverhill have the same owners. Tuscan more formal/upscale; both have bakeries, open kitchen (on first floor of T.K.) I like the design and different floors at T.K.! At Joseph's we had people standing in line to buy take out & cakes right by table - it's smaller; food is very good, service average. Gets crowded quickly on weekends. All homemade pasta (unlike The Colosseum in Salem, NH where some pastas are fresh made in house, some frozen or other? From a box/brought in from supplier (Waiter told us when I asked about pasta prep.) Colosseum is OK but doesn't "wow" Some interior decor is tired, worn, cheap.
Good Experience at Plaza Azteca Salem NH
I've been here four times and I've crossed it off the list for a meal. Food is always too salty, it's usually too crowded, so crowded that the Guacamole Cart cannot be pushed around to the tables, (the gentleman side stepped and weaved his way over to us, leaving the "cart" in a corner.) service has been really spotty - lots of waitstaff "leaning on the walls" but not following up at the tables. Tired of having to get up and ask for something! Also, there are annoying, noisy promotions like a 'balloon' artist that loved chatting up the intoxicated, shrieking, middle aged women and ignored the children on a weeknight; It was pathetic. Drinks were okay - nothing great like at Masa...I guess the only thing I liked was chips & salsa.
Sirloin Saloon in Rutland closed again
Shoot - really liked the Salad Bar there. So rare to find a Salad Bar these days...
Stonyfield (O'Naturals) CLOSED :(
There is one at Brigham & Women's Hospital - (Francis Street, Boston, MA) (the building right across the street from the main entrance of hospital/connected by sky walkway. (Cardiac Care Center) It's quite good. It was open as of last month...I enjoy the soup & salads.
Providence - lunch w/ teen and senior
Thank you for the advice - CCF food is okay, not my favorite. (The wait gets to me more than anything;) I will consider Nick's, Pizzico and Mediterraneo; I'll report back after "chowfest"
Providence - lunch w/ teen and senior
Hello - need to reserve a lunch with teen & senior citizen in Providence on Sat. Senior is adventurous to a degree so it can be kind of fun - but don't won't blaring music or excessive loud...want decent food. I was interested in Cuba Revolution or Nick's on Broadway - don't know if they'd be too loud, super crowded, etc. I detest Fire & Ice and really don't want "chain" restaurant - we've done them all in the area. HELP please!
MT's Local
I haven't been since they changed name and menu (in the last year?) Do they still have the scary clown paintings in some of the rooms? Never got that creepy touch...
We had two good experiences there - 0ver a year ago - first was phenomenal and second was a sold B+ we were disappointed with the ever changing menu second time but not sure if they do this anymore? FYI had a top notch, wonderful experience at Buckley's (their steakhouse) in Merrimack, NH.
Would love feedback form other Chowhounders???
Wirtshaus Restaurant in Methuen, MA--Property for Sale
It's been closed for months...purchased by someone with family ties to a pizza shoppe, they wanted to add a brick oven, I believe but still keep the German bar/part, too, but something happened with the funds. (There was an article in the paper about the purchase and these plans in the last six months -this is what I recall from the news story....owner stating he would consider selling it and I guess that's what he had to do.) For the record, I believe The Green Barn (another Old school German place) right down the road in Salem, NH) might be a thing of the past in the near future, too. Rumors of a small Market Basket/Liquor store going into that location/land being sold? Read something about plans going through town permit process.
Pearl's Candy and Nuts? Worth the trip?
I think selection is pretty good; not a huge space but stacked w all types of candy and some nuts. Prices are ok lots of old fashioned & decades classics. Looking for something specific?
Where to go for Thanksgiving Dinner??
If you don't mind a drive, we went to the Bedford Village Inn, Bedford, NH for Thanksgiving dinner a few years ago - it was wonderful and we had a small private room to ourselves, our own little dining room for six. Pre-fix menu. Wonderful. It's wasn't inexpensive, but worth it. (This is only about 10 minutes from the Manchester NH Airport and the highway. Easy to find.) Also had another nice holiday dinner at the Hanover Street Chophouse in Manchester, NH.

it's okay - not great. I like the food better when we order individual plates- the buffet wasn't remarkable. I've had worse Chinese-American...I liked the drinks -
Hound Honeymoon in New England?
The Woodstocker Inn - Woodstock, VT - run by a charming British couple; great room decor and awesome breakfast. On the web...check them out. Some nice places to eat nearby, too. Inn keeper helped us with rec. & reservations.
Pesce Italian Kitchen- Best Meal in Years!
Just read they have closed....trying to sell.
Allergy friendly restaurants
I think Blue Ginger might be your best bet as chef/owner wrote "the" book - really, he has a book at his restaurant and used by other restaurants/doctors- on food allergies and chef/waiter prep. (His son has allergies and he realized it was not addressed as priority in the industry.) Believe it or not, we've also had good luck at Legal Seafood & Wagamama re:shellfish allergies. Other friends also frequent Wagamama all the time because son has nut allergies and they still have many fresh options and professional waitstaff. (Although Legal had a lot less on the menu to offer, they did a great job of advising and preparing the food that was shellfish free.) All menus are available online.

Getting Engaged - Need a celebratory dinner for after.
what did you decide on? I'm excited for you, too!
Robert's Maine Grill, KIttery
I've been several times and really like it. It's decor is a little more upscale but not too fancy. I've really enjoyed the fried/baked seafood there, service was good and I believe you can do a light lunch for around $10 if you're looking for a more inexpensive option. (Sandwich or a chowder/small salad, etc.) I also recommend it.

Tuscan Kitchen Milford NH?
I was just at The Colosseum two weeks ago - the weekend after the Tuscan Kitchen opening (we were there at 6 PM on a Sat. night.) Although busy, it wasn't packed. There were a few empty tables as we left around 8 PM. Some people at the bar but it looked like no one was waiting for a table. We enjoyed our meal there although we laugh at the "best in the world Italian..or something like that" awards hanging in the lobby. The food is better than a chain, some pasta is homemade, service was decent but didn't "Wow" but the atmosphere is "MEH" It's in a strip mall and I don't think the owner has put a ton of money into decor and amenities over the years. It's comfortable, but not what I'd call upscale or gourmet. I'd give it a solid 6.5 out of 10. At least he didn't have the strolling musicians he had years ago - we found that annoying and believed the place was too small for it. Will also try Tuscan Kitchen in the near future. Friends reviews have been positive thus far. I guess there is a restaurant on the first floor and bar/lounge for smaller plates, wine, etc. on the 2nd floor with entertainment some nights, too. It looks nice from the outside - with a patio opening later that overlooks "the many multicolored cars of NE" i.e. the parking lot(!) I don't understand why restaurants put patios right at the parking area but many do this. I just don't like it! We don't understand all the Italian/Pizza restaurants in Salem, it's crazy.
Salem/Windham/Derry, NH Lunch Recs
Buono Panini is okay. It was originally an I-Hop over 30 years ago. They've upgraded the decor & the food was okay. (We all had pasta - it was in line with Bertucci's/not outstanding, not horrible) Service was decent. All the sandwiches on the menu sound good and I think that's more of what they do at lunch. I'm not rushing to go back there but I'm Italian & very picky about my pasta! The Colosseum in Salem, NH is open for lunch. (We had two good diner visits there in the last three months. It's not fine dining, but we'd give it above average. Some of the pasta is homemade.) T-Bones in Derry is okay/basic. I know they have lunch everyday...maybe Not Your Average Joe's at the Loop in Methuen (right off 495 - only about 10 minutes further south than B.Panini?) It's a solid chain restaurant (one of the better ones in my opinion, if you have to go to a franchise.) - I like it better than all the others I've mentioned for lunches.
Good Food in or near Kittery, Maine
I also say Robert's - maybe you could get a reservation?
RICK'S AT PONDVIEW
I want to like this place. (Used to love it 25 years ago.) According to Taste of Seacoast website, they've changed the theme of the restaurant. Now called "Rick's at Mill Pond" (A NH Steakhouse) - menu prices more varied, with value priced items and more casual atmosphere (according to marketing.) I haven't visited since this newest change. Went to the bar/lounge last time (about six months ago) and the food was decent, but the bartender & atmosphere left a lot to be desired. I like his food a lot (at both locations) his original restaurant is in Kingston - food was outstanding, but really shabby interior. Maybe changes have been made at Pond View/Mill Pond? I'd love a new review.
Michael Timothy's, Nashua NH, going in a new direction
Sounds good to me! I like MT's but sometimes am bummed out by the ever changing menu. (When I find something I like, I hope I can get it again.) Plus, some don't like the "scary clown" decor - but I can ignore it for that incredible food! We also love Buckley's - haven't tried Surf yet, but plan to do so. Please do report back on any other "MT" news.
Tuscan Kitchen Milford NH?
Tuscan Kitchen opened in Salem, NH - they have a dinner/app. menu on their website.
Dress code at Arrows...
I had a wonderful lunch at Summer/Winter (of the Mark & Clark franchise) in Burlington (in Marriott of all places...) Family members have recommended MC several times. I doubt I'd try Arrows - because of the ratings, I'd expect a hit. I don't want to take a chance with a few hundred bucks when there are many negative reviews regarding customer service issues. Sounds like staff needs improvement.
Arrows or another rec. for couple's celebration
We've been to the White Barn Inn once for dinner. I'm glad we tried it. The food was wonderful, but the service left a little to be desired (waiters were more concerned about resetting empty tables, setting up for next day) rather than bringing our after dinner drinks and bill. I guess shame on us for lingering after 8 on a fall night that wasn't really busy for staff. Lack of enthusiasm as courses continued... Finally, we had to get up and go to the bar to ask about the drinks as staff disappeared. Not what we hoped for when laying down a few Benjamins! Doubt I'd return for dinner.

Thank you, we will try at least one of the rec's...too bad we won't be there for the BBQ fest!
Arrows or another rec. for couple's celebration
Yes, OTT = "Over The Top"....sorry, I was writing about SeaGlass Restaurant Oceanside in Salisbury, MA. I like the food there although service can be hit/miss. If you can get a table by the windows, oceanfront, it's quite nice, otherwise, the space is "upscale banquet hall." It looks like a big warehouse. I keep forgetting about the same name restaurant in Maine, which I believe has been in business longer and not tied to Salisbury restaurant. Thanks for the other rec's!
