Stay away from Polpo in Greenwich CT
We have no idea why this place was crowded. The service was possibly the worst we've ever experienced: refused to sit the first of the foursome 5 min before the arrival of the rest, did not refill water/wine, 20 min to bring 2nd bottle of wine, brought entree with appetizers still being eaten, refused us dessert at the table. The food was okay, but definitely not worth either the price OR the service. Stay away!
Just Had Dinner at Town Hall
This past Saturday night. I've eaten there before and was disappointed that they had taken both the duck and the hot chocolate off the menu. The service was sub-par (took AGES for someone to come over, and seemed to serve everyone before us) but I was prepared for this. It definitely is very loud, but again, prepared for it. On the positive side, great for people watching and still very hip. Try sitting at the community table if you're into a new shared experience.
But the food continues to amaze. Had veal meatballs, biscuits with ham, pulled pork and tomato salad for appetizers. All fabulous. Then had the fried chicken with mashed potatos which again didn't disappoint. I forget what my friends had, but no one was disappointed.
To me, this is not a romantic restaurant, nor is it someplace I would go for quiet conversation. I would take out of town guests here, and would definitely do a businses function (they have a private room upstairs). But basically it's a great place to grab a (relatively expensive) bite and be part of the cool crowd.
Had a Great Dinner at Blowfish Sushi To Die For
Since I rely so heavily on you guys for dining advice, I thought I'd contribute my thoughts post-dinner at blowfish sushi..
This is a great place for a hip dining experience. From the anime playing on the video screens to the cool, hip vibe, Blowfish Sushi makes you feel very cool to be there. There were a mix of business folks having a group dinner to cool, macintosh-using programmer types. The food is completely amazing - the most eclectic treatment of sushi I've ever seen. Don't miss the beignet dessert and definitely try the sake martinis. The only negative is that it did get louder as the evening progressed and toward the end of the night we were kind of yelling. But that's because the bar became a very happening plance. Oh, and don't walk out without buying a tee-shirt.
Need awesome romantic restaurant and L'Espalier closed this weekend....

Need awesome romantic restaurant and L'Espalier closed this weekend....
Hello Fellow Chowhounds!
My husband and I will be spending our anniversary in Boston this weekend and I had been planning to go to L'Espalier for dinner Saturday night. Unfortunately, when I called a few weeks ago they told me they'd be closed for moving this weekend and wouldn't re-open until the 19th.
So... could anyone recommend a "L'Espalier caliber" restaurant for our anniversary dinner? It doesn't need to be french, nor does it need to be in the Back Bay (though we're staying in Copley Square). A fantastic wine list would make my husband very happy.... And I'm happy with a modern vibe as well as a traditional romantic vibe...
Thank you in advance!!!
Need a restaurant not too far from The Peninsula Hotel
Thank you so much for the responses! Not too picky about "experience" - could be funky, very romantic, whatever. Key is food/wine list. We've been to Le Bernadin, but I'll check out the other recommendations. I don't mind getting in a taxi if there's anything else you'd recommend that's not way downtown...
THANK YOU
Need a restaurant not too far from The Peninsula Hotel
Hi! I'm taking my husband on a "date" this weekend and am planning to start with drinks at the new rooftop bar at the Peninsula Hotel (5th at 55th). Dinner is next, and I've been reading posts, but can't settle on anything...
Could someone recommend a few great restaurants in the general vicinity? My husband's a foodie and a wine snob, so that presents a challenge... ;-) Money not an issue...
Your help is much appreciated!!!!!!
